Testicular cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the male’s testicles first then spreads to other parts of the body. It most commonly spreads to the lymph nodes after it spreads throughout the testicles. Testicles are part of the male’s reproductive system that makes testosterone, the male hormone, and sperm. It is treatable and can usually be cured. The signs of testicular cancer are lumps, swelling, and pain in your testicles. You can check for these lumps yourself, but it is better and more important to check with your doctor for lumps annually. Testicular cancer isn’t caused by much, but there are some risks.
There aren’t that many causes of testicular cancer. But there are a couple of risk factors, which are: undescended testicles, family history, HIV infection, and race too. Undescended testicles are when your testicles do not go to your scrotum before you were born. This increases the chances of being diagnosed with testicular cancer by several times. Also, family history also increases your risk of being diagnosed with this cancer. If a man has it, it is not surprising if his sons or brothers also develop testicular cancer. In addition, HIV is the only infection known to increase the risk of contracting testicular cancer. Lastly, it is statically proven that men living in Asia and Africa are the least affected by testicular cancer. There is no known reason why this is, but it is just proven that males living in the United States and Europe are diagnosed with testicular cancer more than any other males from other countries. Testicular cancer is only present in males because only males have testicles. About 8,820 cases of testicular cancer are diagnosed every year. About 380 men die from testicular cancer each year. This is actually a very high survival rate. Also, the risk of a man dying from testicular cancer is about 1 in 5,000 because it is highly treatable and sometimes can be curable. It seems that the group most affected by testicular cancer is middle aged men, the average age to be diagnosed is 33. Only 6% of testicular cancer cases occur in children and teens, and about 7% of testicular cancer cases are men above 55 years old. All in all, testicular cancer is a type of cancer only in males and starts off in the testicles. It is not that common and the survival rate is very high because of the technology and doctors of today.
