The dance topic I chose was a stiletto dance. The stiletto dance originated from the women’s shoe style, which was the stiletto heel. Men and women in the entertainment business are usually seen wearing stiletto heels for performances. Genres such as ballroom dance, jazz dance, and Latin dance. Basic techniques from ballet are still useful whiles dancing in heels, they help you to prepare and keep your balance. In today’s era, men and women have taken over the stiletto genre and made it into a unique style where other choreographers have the ability to use it in their classes as well. We live in a generation where “sex sells” therefore, a lot of heel choreography represents sex appeal and how you can interpret a sexual song into a performance.
Dancing in heels creates a fantasy where you create a personal sexy walk, smooth transitions, tricks, levels and lines with your body. Stiletto dance is a craft because you are constantly using basic elements from different genres such as ballet, modern, jazz etc. All genres have some sort of connection together even though it’s a different style. A lot of individuals take “heel dancing” out of context, some may look at it as exotic dancing or vulgar dancing. It may make some people feel uncomfortable because of all the sexual movement that is being demonstrated by the fluidity of the body. Some may have their personal views on what they believe dance should be, but there shouldn’t be any limitations on what dancers can or cannot do. Beyoncé is known for heels choreography along with background dancers that adopt this same style of dancing to be able to perform with her. All of Beyoncé’s background dancers need to have the ability to dance in heels for hours which challenges anyone’s performance level. As I studied her background dancer’s majority of the shoes they perform in are character shoes. Character shoes are seen in jazz as well because the heel of a character shoe is so low dancers like myself have a better
Some of the most powerful moments in dance are simple movements where dancers are able to pull from a different place every time he or she performs a movement whether it be a smack on the leg or a stomp each movement represents something.
Dancers have the ability to transform into an alter ego whiles being on stage. The beauty of dance is even if you aren’t confident it gives you that confidence. A performance in heels is nothing without facial expressions and confidence. Dancers tell stories by using different facial expressions to connect with the audience. Without none of these key elements, there won’t be anything to look forward to. All dancers should remember that people are paying to come and see an amazing performance, and it is important that dancers give them what they paid
Every dance that is created by a choreographer has a meaning and or purpose behind it. The dance choreographed could be used to send a political, emotional, or a social message. Regardless of the message being sent, each dance created possesses a unique cultural and human significance. This essay will examine and analyze two dance works from history and give an insight into what each dance work provided to the society of its time.

The fast foot work in both Black Bottom and in tap dancing showed the similarities of the styles of dance. Although tap dance is less about the upper body, unlike Black Bottom and dances like the Charleston, and more about the movement of the feet and sound of the taps, there were obvious similarities between Black Bottom and tap. Tap dance and Black Bottom are fairly similar, only by adding metal plates to the bottom of shoes, creating “tap shoes”, the new style of dance was born. This style of dance however, focusing on the lower body movements and the sounds the tao shoes are making when they stick across the floor, is less about the movement of the arms and upper
The Folklorico group presentation I was honored to observed was the “Grupo Folklorico Juventud” from North Salinas High School. I decided to attend to this presentation because I use to be part of this Folklorico group. I also enjoy watching the dances for the reason that I believe they are beyond beautiful. It is amazing how a simple dance could transmit so much information while representing a region from Mexico. From my observation experienced, I noticed every region has different movements and customs for a reason. While observing the presentation I noticed most women used long skirts to create different shapes. They usually create the eight shape, half a circle or an entire circle which is created when the dancer does an entire spin while holding and moving their skirt. The skirt is also moved in different levels, such as high, medium, and low. The two levels that are used in most of the dances is the high and the medium level. While dancing the men and women usually do the same steps and movements. All the dances include “zapateados” which are known as foot dances or stomps. The “zapateados” are usually done with different parts of the feet such as the toe, heel and the sole of the feet. The dances include “zapateados” with different sections of the feet because every part creates a different sound. Most of the dances also include jumps and turns. It is extremely important for the
The Sioux Grass Dance is considered to be the most popular style of Native American Music. As one dances to this music, they follow a pattern known as “toe-heel.” This consists of the individual placing the left foot in front of the right and repeating with the other foot. Each male dancer makes many personal variations of this dance resulting in a so...
For the dancer, music and choreography are paramount. The music guides the dancer, and the moves express the music. However, the dance has to start from somewhere.

Rise is a collection of elaborate dances with a similar theme of empowerment. In many of the dances, the characters the dancers portray go through a stage of finding a sense of power and individualism. The dances that highlighted this message were the dances about prominent historical women, the openness of women expressing their
...someone suited for a certain dance styles such as ballet, cheerleading, and hip-hop. The difference between black and white causes issues over ideal dance styles thus, creating certain stereotypes. People make expectations on the dancing body based on the individual’s skin colour. This is clearly depicted through Sara and Britney’s character. When they moved in to a predominantly black neighbourhood, they were expected to dance certain styles of ballet and cheerleading. The racial casting and interracial partnerships have been extensive and ubiquitous for decades. Yet stereotyped and sometimes repulsive notion of race remain alive across the dance form. Instead of referring to performances as black or white, people should focus on the individual’s unique style and grace. People should think of dance technique as something separate from the dancers and their colour.
Pointe shoes are special shoes the women wear to dance on their toes. The tip of the shoe, called the box is made out of tightly packed layers of paper mache, fabric, or cardboard. This needs to be very sturdy, because the dancer will be putting all of her weight on it. The sole of the shoe, or the shank, is made out of leather board or red board, it is important for this to be sturdy, because it supports your ankles. In some professional companies pointe shoes are custom made to fit the dancer’s foot perfec...
Women are always searching for the right shoe. There are so many different styles, types, colors, and even heights. To me the two most common types are high heels and flats. Well, at least in today’s fashion those are the two most common. Both, if paired with the correct outfit are simply stunning. High heels offer a sexier look that’s nearly impossible to get from a flat shoe. Nevertheless, I feel very strongly about women in high heels. They make your legs look longer, butt look better, and they are sexier than flats. On the other hand, if you’re running around and being busy all day, nothing feels better than a cute pair of flats. Its time we hit the ground running as we explore the real similarities and differences of the two common types of shoes, in which I mean comfort, styles, and versatility.
After I began to learn to dance ballet, I found out that these elegant movements actually require a lot of strength, flexibility of the bodies and brain’s participation to make it looked elegant. The dancers’ movements in the performance were so fluent and elegant and it is not hard to imagine how hard they had practiced, stretched and use the strengths to do all the ballet poses with their bodies look longer and longer. Their expressions also impressed me a lot. By looking at their expressions, the audience can easily understand the scenes and blend into the story. The performers actually not only are required to have good dancing skills but also are required to have some talents to be actors. Moreover, they also have to be good at expressing their feelings on the
Having been a dancer for several years and a budding fashion designer, it has always eluded me why there is rarely a clear direct link between the two. Occassionally, dance dabbles in fashion, seeping in through sportswear and some flashy television commercials, but it’s rare to find any more depth in it. Fashion appears to found in dance, but most of this comes in the form of costumes for shows. My own experience of semi-professional urban dance styles only touches the surface of dance as a whole, and by no means is a fair representation of it, but it’s enough to have intrigued me to find out more. I hope to look at how dance and fashion compares side by side, looking at the differences and similarites. Why, from my point of view, is there not more of an overlap. I want to explore both, relative to each other utilising my own knowledge of hip hop culture. I expect to touch upon performance and costume, and my research will look into the history and backgrounds of such.
As Jackie Joyner Kersee once said, “The rewards are going to come, but my happiness is just loving the sport and having fun performing” (“Sports Quotes,” 2013). Sports play a major role in entertainment all across the world. Sports can range from driving in NASCAR to playing in the NBA (Careers in Pro Sports, 1999). Sports usually involve teamwork and is fun for everyone. Although sports are supposed to be fun, there is natural competition. Being a feminine art, dance is considered to be just about anything other than a sport. Dancers are trained to the height of their ability, just like other athletes in other sports. Even though the dancer might not perform with their whole dance studio on stage at the same time, the dancers are all apart of the same team. Dancing is not an easy sport to participate in, so if you are looking for a sport that does not require practice then you might want to look into a different sport. There are hour-long practices, healthy diets, and several routines to remember. Normally, if someone is convinced that dance is not a sport, they have not fully engaged or experienced dance. In order to better understand dance, it is important to understand the history of dance, the competition of dance, and the comparison of dance to other sports.
Tap dancing is another type of dance that is energetic and exciting. Tap dancers wear special dance shoes with metal taps on them so they can use their feet like drums to create rhythm and beats in specific patterns. The goal of tap dancing is to create clear, clean sounds, with various tones.
