The Effects of Soil Salinity on Plant Life

Hypothesis: Plants exposed to a higher percentage of salt will not grow as well as plants that are not exposed to salt.

Aim: To investigate the negative effect that soil salinity has on the growth and produce of plants.

Variables:

Independent Variable:
• Amount of Salinity that plants are exposed to

Dependent Variable:
• Growth of the plant

Controlled variables:
• Type of plant exposed to salt
• Amount of water given to plants

Apparatus:

 3x 500ml bottles
 water
 salt
 3x roses
 White board marker

Method:

1. Fill all three bottles with water.
2. In the first bottle place 3 table spoons of salt into one bottle and label accordingly.
3. In the second bottle place 1 table spoon of salt water into another bottle and label accordingly.
4. Leave the third bottle of water with just water and label accordingly.
5. Place on rose into each bottle at the same time.
6. Observe the growth of the three roses and record their progress on a table.

Results:
Plain Water 1 tbsp. Salt 3 tbsp. Salt
