The movie I chose is “Rudy”. It is about a young adult named Rudy Ruettiger, who wants to play football at the University of Notre Dame. Rudy does not want to work in a steel mill like his father does. He does not have money for tuition and has no chances with being qualified with a scholarship for good grades because he has been fighting his dyslexia. Also, Rudy’s performances in athletics are poor, and the size of his body is not to the standards of a football player. Although, he works hard and gains admission to Notre Dame to begin his career in football. In the movie, Rudy meets a janitor that helps motivate him in continuing towards his dream. The clip from the movie that I choose is when Rudy decides to quit the football time because he did not make the dress list. Rudy wanted to run out of the tunnel to show his dad how far he has come. Rudy talks …show more content…
about how he wants to be someone, but the janitor questions Rudy about everything he has done so far, and how he has come so far. The janitor finally opens up to Rudy about his life at Notre Dame, and he regrets every minute of him quitting the team. He encourages Rudy to stay on the team and keep working hard. In the clip, the janitor is using self-disclosure.
Self-disclosure is the intentional sharing of personal information that is not known by others. Rudy does not have a clue that the janitor played football for Notre Dame until it was shared. Rudy also created a deeper understanding of why the janitor feels strongly about him staying on the football team. Also, avoiding is a conflict style, and in this clip, the janitor is showing assertiveness and having little cooperation. He is being aggressive to prove a point to Rudy not to quit the team because quitting the team is a disappoint and something Rudy will regret in the long run. The aggressive conversation was also in an effect because of gender. If a male was talking to a female, the conversation would have not escalated so quickly, but because they were both male, the aggression is natural. In using conflict style, it can differ with culture, too. The janitor is using different words and phrasing based on is ethic background. His assertiveness and aggression could have been based with his culture and may have been different if he was raised the same as
Rudy. The communication climate in the clip is Rudy denying to listen to the janitor which is a disconfirming statement. Then Rudy decides to listen to what the janitor has to say and confirming the statement or in other words, validating and recognizing the people around and acknowledging their ideas. Finally, the conversation is an assertive communication because Rudy is understanding the janitor’s point of view, finding out what the issue is, and figuring out what needs to happen. This is always a way of framing the conversation because the conflict was addressed, talked about different outcomes of what could happen for Rudy’s future, and the janitor started questioning Rudy. Interpersonal conflict is when two interdependent parties have different opinions, goals, and/or interest. This can lead to misperception or miscommunication. The janitor mentions that he thought he did get to play football because of his race, but it was because he was not good enough. This shows the miscommunication between the coach and the janitor because of their different backgrounds and views.
Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez was a young Latino who had a passionate love for baseball. He was like any normal kid in the neighborhood apart from his strikingly athletic good looks, strong natural leadership and obsession with baseball. “Benny”, as his closest friends would call him, was a true hero to his inner circle of teammates. Especially to Scotty Smalls, as it was Benny who saved Scotty from a life sentence by retrieving his step father’s prized Babe Ruth autographed baseball from the jaws of the notorious junkyard “Beast” and making himself a neighborhood legend.
Lin-Manuel Miranda summed up his feelings about art in an interview: "The ultimate way art can be political is that I think it engenders empathy which is the thing politicians can't seem to do" (Watson). Throughout history, many forms of art have created new ideas in our society and will continue to challenge new ways of thinking and how we communicate with one another. In the last fifteen years, artist Lin-Manuel Miranda has written two Broadway Musicals that have had a major impact on how we historically view our country. By writing stories based on the traditional ideas of the "American Dream" and contemporizing the history of our nation's birth, he has captivated a broad and diverse audience. Lin-Manuel's genius, coupled with his passion for the arts, plays an integral role on how we should view our nation's history, to uphold American values for all of us, not just some of us.

There is a scene in this movie where the coach takes the team on a long run in the middle of the night. They end up at the break of dawn at a cemetery. The coach tells the young men of the battle that was fought on that ground. He told of the blood shed on those grounds that turned the whole area red. The film that I chose was My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The movie is a romantic comedy about a 30-year-old single woman Toula living in Chicago with her family. As a Greek girl, being raised by a very traditional Greek family she always wanted to be like the other girls instead of going to Greek School she wanted to attend traditional public school and eat American. She was looked down upon by her family because she was supposed to be married to a Greek man, have Greek children, and feed people, which she had not yet accomplished at 30. She was constantly made fun of by other females both Greek and non-Greek because of either the way certain things were pronounced, the foods she ate, or what was viewed as a cultural norm in society. Toula was fluent
I chose to watch the movie Jesus camp. The other movies didn’t sound as interesting as Jesus Camp. When I read the summery, I thought it would be a good fit since I like watching movies that have kids. I also went to a church camp when I was younger, so I thought it would be interesting to see what “Kids on Fire Church Camp” was compared to my church camp. I will be giving a brief explanation of the movie and talking about the theme of religion and politics.
The Voice, 'Ol' Blue Eyes', Swoonatra, La Voz, and Chairman of the Board. These were all sobriquets of the infamous Frank Sinatra. However, one of Sinatra's earliest and possibly most well-known nicknames was The Voice. A title such as The Voice is more than just a name that sounds cool and sensual. It promises something flawless about his singing style, signifying you could select one song, or perhaps even an album, as representative of Frank Sinatra. However, Sinatra had a multitude of styles over his five decade career, so to call him the voice could potentially be doing an injustice, perhaps a more accurate description would be The Voices.
Movies can be categorized by comedy, horror, family, drama, romance, and many more. From the list of movies that you have seen and you liked it seems to be that you are open to all types of movies. The film I would like to introduce you to is called Million Dollar Baby. It is a sports drama film. This film was nominated for 48 different awards. Actors include Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, and Hilary Swank. Hopefully, these are some reasons to intrigue your interest. You do not need to be a fan of boxing to enjoy Million Dollar Baby. There is a deeper meaning to this movie like realizing that one always has a place in someone’s heart.
The movie- The movie I chose was “Hope Springs”. I chose this movie because after reviewing all of the other movies, this one appealed to me the most. I question things such as, “Is the spark still there?”. I specifically chose this movie to get a better understanding of relationships in later life.
Rudy has been a personal favorite for me because it shows that anyone can accomplish their goal if they set there heart and mind to it. I feel like many people can relate to this movie some point in their life, and that’s why I think this is a favorite movie of many people. For me personally, I have had many moments in my life where I thought I couldn’t achieve one of my goals. For example, I wanted to graduated high school with a 4.0. I was a bad test taker and most of my classes consisted of tests, essentially meaning that if you don’t do well on the tests you probably won’t get the grade you wanting. I pushed and studied as hard as I could for ever test keeping my goal in mind. I completed my goal, in shock when I saw my final report card
The film I chose to write about was “Jesus of Montreal”. It is a French movie about a group of actors who perform a Passion Play in Canada. With the combination of drama and comedy, it was a delight to watch. More insight into the film, it is basically about these actors who performs a passion play but the twist being that they combined religious beliefs with not so conventional theories on Jesus. Focusing on the plot in a deeper fashion, we basically have the main character whose name is Daniel.
IGN Entertainment called it, “Inspirational, Gripping, and Entertaining.” The Movie Guide summarized it as “an entertaining, morality lesson.” Six years later, Coach Carter still captivates the minds of audiences as the frontrunner of underdog movies and joining the top tier of movies. Winning 3 awards and receiving 10 nominations for best director, lead actor, and best female breakthrough performance, was an incredible tale that touched the audience’s emotions and evoked the feeling of the victims and heroes of the story as their kinsfolk.
To conclude, I think this movie is a good example to show how a homeless person lived and how he survived his life from being a homeless. Throughout all his life he showed what can determination do even though there are obstacles in the way. Doing is best paid off his hardships. So from dreaming big, be determined on what you're trying to do, and be responsible on things will make you succeed in the future.
