Pursuit of Happyness: Narrative Essay The movie Pursuit of Happyness shows how a person became a homeless then eventually how he survived from being a homeless. Then, to being a multi millionaire. Even though he experienced how hard life can be he still pursued to reach his goals in his life for his son. This movie shows how a homeless person stand up and pursue to be successful. Throughout the movie, the filmmakers showed a how a family struggle from their daily lives'. One example from the movie is when Linda, Chris's girlfriend and mother of Christopher decided to leave San Francisco and go to New York for a better job. This scene shows how difficult is their situation that Linda would leave her family to look for a better life. Throughout the movie, it also shows how a husband and wife argued because of money issues. Chris and his family live in San Francisco where his son goes to a school where they can't even spell happiness right. In this place they spell happiness to "Happyness" instead of the letter "i". There this one scene when Chris talking to his son's teacher because of how the teacher let's the children's watched a TV show called "Bonanza and Love Boats." By this Chris tried to talk to the teacher because trying it is not appropriate for them to watch TV during their school time. But the teacher argues that it's for history. The lady says it's navy history, but Chris responded by telling her that they are paying them $150 a month. The teacher responded backed by saying that they pay his son's tuition late. Chris is complaining about this, but the lady said with them paying their son's tuition late she is complaining too. Why did Chris's put his son to a school where I think all their students are Asians in the ... ... middle of paper ... ... they are in a year when dinosaurs are alive. Then, his son follows along and Chris said that they need to find a cave so that the dinosaurs will not get them. While they're looking for a cave they end up to a bathroom in the subway station and their they stayed for the night. I would say that this scene is one of the turning point of the movie because its shows how a father and son's relationship is very strong,. Even though they are experiencing problems. To conclude, I think this movie is a good example to show how a homeless person lived and how he survived his life from being a homeless. Throughout all his life he showed what can determination do even though there are obstacles in the way. Doing is best paid off his hardships. So from dreaming big, be determined on what you're trying to do, and be responsible on things will make you succeed in the future.
There are many more examples throughout this movie that can be connected or assessed to the many different concepts that was learned. There are many real-life events and these concepts are important because they allow people to see how different types of people and families deal with stress and problems and it is important not to judge or jump to conclusions and maybe take a step back and take time to consider what others may be going
Happy is a documentary that brings to light the different types of livings of people around the world and contrasts how they define happiness. The movie starts out in Kolkata Slum, India, with a man Manoj Singh. Manoj is living a relatively impoverished life. His house isn’t the best, in fact the roof is just a tarp however he says “my home is good.” Manoj is quite happy with his life and it’s not because of his minimal possessions but the community around him. His happiness lies in the fact that he can see his son smiling every day and he is so grateful for his neighbors and friends. He even states himself that he doesn’t consider himself as “poor but the richest person.” Manoj’s happiness is described as the same as the average American.
This movie was inspiring and encouraging to anyone who is struggling with something. Overcoming his controversies in life became the main point of the movie. Knowing that this movie was based upon a true story inspires the people even more.
When you look at someone, you see a person, but sometimes, you forget that that person has a story. I learned that when I watched the film, I Learn America. When I first watched the movie, I saw students that have come to America. They have come to an international school in New York to learn English. As the film goes on, you see that each of the students that they focus on have struggles that they have/had to overcome to come or stay in America. Before, I did not realize how much they had to go through in order to come to the United States. As educators, we have to get to know our students. We have to understand their lives and their backgrounds and create a good teacher-student relationship and help students build a “home away from home”.
This movie is a wonderful production starting from 1960 and ending in 1969 covering all the different things that occurred during this unbelievable decade. The movie takes place in many different areas starring two main families; a very suburban, white family who were excepting of blacks, and a very positive black family trying to push black rights in Mississippi. The movie portrayed many historical events while also including the families and how the two were intertwined. These families were very different, yet so much alike, they both portrayed what to me the whole ‘message’ of the movie was. Although everyone was so different they all faced such drastic decisions and issues that affected everyone in so many different ways. It wasn’t like one person’s pain was easier to handle than another is that’s like saying Vietnam was harder on those men than on the men that stood for black rights or vice versa, everyone faced these equally hard issues. So it seemed everyone was very emotionally involved. In fact our whole country was very involved in president elections and campaigns against the war, it seemed everyone really cared.
The movie overall had a tremendous impact on my personality since it made me realize that every successful man in the world whether its Bill Gates, Chris Gardner or Carlos Smith have gone through immense hardships, struggling phases and complications in their personal and professional life to achieve the status, prestige and respect that they have today. They could have accepted these problems to adjust themselves with the existent scenario and situations, but the actual triumph of these people lie in recognizing the fact that all these problems and toils are there germinate greater resistance, potential of perseverance and willpower in them in order to transform them into a person who is fearless and disciplined enough to handle any kind of difficulty with extreme wisdom and sagacity.
In the book, The How of Happiness, author and researcher Sonja Lyubomirsky sets her book apart from other self-awareness books by being the first to utilize empirical studies. She uses data gained through scientific method to provide support for her hypothesis. This hypothesis consists mainly of the idea that we have the ability to overcome genetic predisposition and circumstantial barriers to happiness by how we think and what we do. She emphasizes that being happier benefits ourselves, our family and our community. “The How of Happiness is science, and the happiness-increasing strategies that [she] and other social psychologists have developed are its key supporting players” (3).
The idea of justice although obvious for philosophers like Locke, Rousseau, and John Rawls, proves itself to be a labyrinthine issue for Americans; nevertheless, ones thing is clear: the people are guaranteed the ability to pursue happiness. Sometimes searching for American equity juxtaposes the American Dream to the pursuit of happiness with a paralytic justice. However, justice in all forms plays a part through the governments duty; who does the government serve and protect? Despite this, opportunity continues to play a major role in correlation to the hopes and aspirations of many Americans; what freedoms to pursue happiness would Americans receive if they were striped of their rights?
So, release unhappiness and consume happiness. Bye, bye unhappiness, hello happiness. Typically many are consumed by ‘miswanting’ – making decision based on what we think will make us happy (e.g., a new car or home). Now, researchers go one step further to tell us where happiness resides for most of us, as consumers. One study about consumption vs. happiness finds that people are more happy when they spend money on ‘experience’ (travel) instead of material objects (new TV set). The enjoyable experience is what they typically relish. The finding is that spending money for an experience – travel, concerts, or outing, for example – produce longer-lasting satisfaction than spending money on same old plain stuff, TV, car, etc. – especially one
The studies given as examples and discussion focuses on teenagers and young adults, but includes anyone is struggling to find happiness. Evidence to Support Thesis: Point 1: The level of well-being is emphasized as more people continue to lose track of what makes them happy. Shawn Anchor is reminding people to capture the essence of simple contentment and asking his audience to think about what they value. Anchor’s book provides seven principles that involve having an open mind to becoming happier. Anchor includes other research studies as evidence to his claims throughout the book.
I believe this movie does a good job incorporating what we have discussed in class in terms of adolescent development. Although the movie is greatly exaggerated and blown up, the movie does emphasize on key factors to the development of an adolescent. Aside from the self-identity and friendship, the film incorporates parental relationships, academics, teacher-student relationships, risky behaviors, and moral development during adolescent
The movie was an interesting movie because it has the ability to make you react with many emotions. The movie follows characters that live in Los Angeles and the characters are involved in each other characters’ lives. With each character I had a first impression and I would most of the time end up with different impressions of them in the end. There are a few concepts I noticed and created after watching the film. I had a variety of emotions while watching the film, the most notable emotions were angry to hopeful. Regarding racism the action I could take is to not always rely on stereotypes.
As a child growing up, parents would teach their kids that realizing certain milestones in life, such as, getting A’s in school, getting accepted into an Ivy League college, having a respected career, having a trusted income, living in a two story home, marrying the love of your life, having well-rounded kids, pretty much living the American dream with the perfect family, will make us happy. The honest truth is that even obtaining all of these things listed above has nothing to do with happiness. The Oxford English Dictionary defined the word happiness as “the quality or condition of being happy;” it sounds fairly easy to define, but happiness isn’t just “being happy”. If the word was that easily interpreted, than many people wouldn’t misuse it in different contexts or scenarios. Happiness is different from happy moments. Even though the word happiness is debatable, at the end of the day, it is what everyone is trying to attain.
“You only have one life so live it right do what your heart tells you and go for that one thing in the world that will make you happy” (The Pursuit of Happiness). Is contentment not what we all seek? Since birth we establish an idea, an idea which alternates within time. Children want to be superheroes, and princesses’ positions that bring them pleasure. So what has changed in ten long years that have alter my way of cognitive thought? Although I am still devoted into finding my happiness I have realized that I can’t do so by tying a towel behind my back and carelessly pretending to be a cape crusader. No, no what I now require is goals and timelines that will amplify the percentage of my success.
Not only does this movie deal with the issues of society, but it points to biblical scriptures that help lead us in the right direction. The biggest lesson that this film taught me was that if I put my complete faith in God, then no matter what happens, he will provide, watch over, and take care of me. I learned that expressing belief in God is not enough. I have to live everyday believing and trusting him and I have to show my trust and faith through my actions and my words.
