Background

More than 140 years ago a company named Rio Tinto was incorporated as legit business, in the year 1873 they opened an old mine copper mine on Spain River named Rio Tinto also known as “Red river”. As time went by year 1905 in New South Wales Australia the Zinc Corporation was formed for the Zinc bearing mine waste at the broken Hill to be treated. Expanding to other countries was the main focus for chairman Sir Auckland Campbell and the management team that he led. 24 years later the was a merge between the two united kingdom firm known as The Imperial Smelting resulting in formation of Zinc Corporation which got listed in London. As the company was growing abroad they decided to sell two thirds of Rio Tinto based in Spain so that they can pump money into new developments in other countries.
Extensive bauxite deposit was discovered at wepra far north Queensland Australia, that discovery led to Rio Tinto’s entry into aluminium and formation of Comalco limited that was in the year 1956. Six years later Conzinc Rio Tinto Australia was formed, in the year 1966 the first exports to Japan, in Western Australia Rio Tinto launched it’s iron ore operations with the launch of Hamersley iron mount from price mine. Owners of the world largest deposit of industrial mineral borates, that has hundreds of everyday uses Borax was acquired by Rio Tinto in 1968. Things went bad for Rio Tinto when it’s participation in Cornwall’s ancient tin mining industry in the United Kingdom ended due to declining demand and prices for the metal.
