Recently there was a shooting at a festival in Las Vegas. To be more specific it was the biggest mass shooting in modern day history. Las Vegas has some of the most relaxed gun laws in The United States. People in Las Vegas are able to openly carry weapons and also machine guns are legal. There is no limitations on guns and no license and registration are needed for guns in Las Vegas. There is no prohibition of possessing or transferring 50 caliber rifles, assault weapons, and large capacity ammunition magazines. The Las Vegas shooting has proven as many other mass shootings, that education and training should be the focus to prevent the misuse of guns.
The laws in Las Vegas are much more laid back compared to other states’ rules and regulations.For instance, those in California who want a gun must go through firearm safety training, but in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Maryland, and Washington D.C. they do not have to take a safety class (Giffords Law Center). Mayor, Jane Byrne, was able to push through the ban for firearms in 1992, but it only lasted until 2010 when the Supreme Court shut it down (Chicago Tribune). Later in 2013 the general assembly passed a law that granted residents the right to concealed carry (Chicago Tribune). The Chicago Tribune stated that “Right now (as of this year), New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco have stricter gun laws on the books, than Chicago”. Even though they were trying to make it strict and hard to get guns, the black market is used to get illegal guns and there are many other loopholes through these laws. Most of the guns that are in Chicago are purchased in neighboring states or southern states with more relaxed gun laws (Chicago Tribune). These are then sold on the streets in Chicago for a premium
