The Kings of Summer is a warm hearted, humorous coming of age film; directed by Jordan Vogt- Roberts, it follows the journey of two teenage boys, Joe and Patrick who have run away from their irritating parents, along with their odd new friend Biaggio. They decide to build a house, like a home away from home, they visit a building site to study building techniques and make their own home from recycled building materials.
The trio are free from their annoying parents and problems.
After several weeks when the boys have been confirmed missing, cracks begin to appear in the boy’s relationship, when Joe realises his best friend Patrick is going out with Kelly, the girl he has always liked.
Tensions escalate when Joe tells Patrick and Biaggio to

The boys then help themselves to off- cuts of building materials out of a skip on the building site to use for their house. The three boys return to the secret forest location and start building their house. The scene shows the boys in a light hearted playful mood because they are celebrating their freedom. All the boys are contributing and working well as a team but having fun along the way.
Biaggio is riding his bike through the streets of the town and comes across something he is interested in, in front of a house, we are left to wonder what the object is that has caught his eye, all is revealed when Joe and Patrick are lifting a kids slide onto their building site. After the slide is in place they boys are very proud of themselves. They then start making a fire, and dance around it, the last part of this scene is of Joe looking into the distance and yells out ‘freedom’ before ‘f..k you Frank’.
I chose this scene because I feel it’s an important scene in the movie. It’s a momentous time in their lives when they decide to leave the comfort and security of their homes, to fend for themselves. The four techniques I have chosen to discuss in this scene are camera shots, actor’s performance, sound, lighting and focus. I have chosen these as I think they all create meaning in this
I also predict the boys will find someone living on the island and become friends with them. The boy’s have no adult supervision on the island, but I think they will be able to live on there own for a while.
One Fat Summer by Robert Lipsyte, is a very good book for teenagers that feel insecure about themselves and have low self-esteem. In the book they will read about a young boy name, Bobby who overcomes his fears of being fat and being bullied by Willie, one that is much stronger then him physically, but not emotionally. The basic theme of this story is to stand up for yourself no matter the situation.
When the boys first arrived on the island, their behaviour was civilized and they attempted to convince themselves that they would soon be rescued by their parents. As the days passed, the boys began to open their eyes and realized that sitting around was not going to benefit them in any way, and most importantly it would not help them survive. Because of their new unrestricted life on the island, the boys become ruthless and replaced their previous identity.
Knowles foreshadows the boys’ loss of innocence through the war, and their constant jumps from the tree. While getting ready for the war the boys practice and show off their skills on the tree by the Devon River. These jumps are done for fun yet the boys see them as a routine, something that has to be done. Knowles brings the theme of the loss of innocence in the novel for the first time by portraying Finny as the defender who gets the boys out of trouble by saying they had to jump out of the tree (22). This foreshadows how the innocence of the boys will be banished from themselves and their world. The tree also symbolizes the Forbidden Tree of Knowledge. Just like it is forbidden to eat the fruit, jumping from the tree was not allowed as well. By jumping from the tree the boys symbolically accept their loss of innocence, just like Adam and Eve accepted theirs.
The boys attempt at making friendship is evident throughout the beginning of the story. When a meeting is dismissed, they leave the group to survey the island, along with another boy named Simon. After
He gives them $50 and directions to a church outside of town. The boys hop on a freight train and find the hideout where they are to wait until Dally comes for them. Hiding in an abandoned, rural church, they feel like real outsiders, with their greased, long hair and general hoody appearance. They both cut their hair, and Pony colors his for a disguise. They pass the time in the church playing cards and reading aloud from Gone with the Wind.
Each boy gets nurtured and find outs what is it that they want in life eventually finding it one way or another.

However, the story focuses on the lives of Doc, a local marine biologist, and Mack and the boys, a group of not-quite-homeless, rather philosophical bums. Mack and the boys freelance, picking up money and short-term jobs where they can. Early in the story, they acquire an empty fishmeal storage building from Lee Chong. Mack and the boys transform it into their home, the Palace Flophouse.
I chose this scene for its attention to detail and captivating visual aesthetic. It ...
500 days of summer is a story where a boy meets a girl, he falls in love with her yet she does not truly love him. The movie shows the progression of the relationship of Tom and Summer. It begins when they first meet when Summer begins working as a secretary where Tom works and progresses to them casually dating. Summer is obviously hesitant and against relationships yet Tom is overly eager to find the perfect girl. The story ultimately shows the demise and after effects of their relationship. At first thought anyone could think this is the typical love story where the movie casually progresses to them living happily ever after. This is not that kind of fairy tale love story.
...ng to Brad about not coming out and they start beating him up. Charlie comes in to defend Patrick and knocks one of the people out. The group starts talking to him again since he expiated for kissing Sam by saving Patrick’s life.
In the beginning of the novel, the boys are brought together by the sound of the conch. When they were all together the choose there chief Ralph, and establish rule that they could abide by so that they have a chance to survive and also to get off the island. As the novel continues the boys are working together and everything is fine, but one a littluen brings up the point of their being
William Shakespeare successfully used two contrasting places to emphasize the meaning of the story. The meaning of the story is that the course of love never runs smooth, but you if you really love somebody you will find your way to them. Using contrasting places represents opposing forces or point of views, allows the reader to get a better idea of what the theme of the story is. In William Shakespeare’s, A Midsummer Night’s Dream the two contrasting places used were the City of Athens and a enchanted Forest located on the outskirts of the city. In the City of Athens there are laws, organization, everything is governed well. In the Forest there are no laws, nothing is organized, or governed. The Forest stands chaos and the hardships of love in the story, and the city stands for laws and strict living. The Forest shows us what nature or self-government can offer compared to the harsh laws of living in this case Athens.
