Earning a high school diploma is the first step of becoming an adult and furthering education. It is extremely hard to advance in life without a high school diploma. The number of high school dropouts of today’s generation is extremely disappointing. A huge amount of teens have made the decision to give up on education. Teenagers suffering from drug addiction, pregnancy, academic failure and financial problems are most likely to drop out. These lead students into believing there is no reason to try any longer. Dropping out of high school is a horrible decision with consequences, but can be prevented.
Bad decision making and negative influences causes teens to drop out. Some students engage in addictive drugs. Teens who attend parties have easy access to drugs. It starts off with occasional use of marijuana. Then it escalates to harder drugs. Molly has become a popular drug among teens. It is a pill form of ecstasy laced with other harsh drugs. It increases the feeling of energy and euphoria. Teens mainly use it during parties and concerts. Alcohol is also addictive. Teens abuse alcohol to cope with emotional stress. This leads to a downfall in life and health. High schools should introduce yearly drug campaigns for students. People believe drug campaigns aren’t effective however it depends on how the information is delivered. A boring assembly stating drugs are bad is not going to capture their attention. A drug campaign should be a week long and allow students to participate. There should be group activities in class and games during lunch time. In conclusion, high school is a challenge for some students. Being a teenager is a time for people to find themselves and discover who they are. It is easy to be influenced by bad behavior and join the wrong crowd. Sometimes students deal with family issues and can’t keep up and the only decision is to drop out. High school is challenging and it is hard for students to ask for help or don’t know who to talk to. If parents and teachers build relationships with their students it will save people from dropping out. Some teachers deliver the lesson plan and leave right away. Teaching should be about educating students and not just a pay check. With the proper help and resources many students can be prevented from dropping out.
