CHAPTER TWO:
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.0 INTRODUCTION
The literature review can be referred to as a written text that describes the important points of contemporary knowledge including substantive findings as well as methodological and theoretical findings to a particular subject matter literature review is secondary source of information there for they do not provide original or new experimental task. They provide reports of prior research studies.
2.1. Definitions
2.1.2. Hand craft sector
Handicraft sector refers to the business area that merely concerns making of useful decorative appliances using totally hands or by application of simple devices generally this term applies to traditional way of producing commodities.
The actual artisanship of the product is a vital Principle, such objects most of time comprise cultural as well as religious implications. Goods produced using machines or by mass production should not be confused to be handicraft items. What makes handicraft different from the often used category arts and crafts is a matter of intent. Handicraft product is made, used, worn to mention but a few, with a purpose further than mere decoration. Handicrafts in general are regarded more of traditional vocation. The items made out of it are considered to be essential part of daily life. Whereas arts and crafts are more of leisure and hobby pursuit and displays perfection of a creative technique. Practically categories have common characteristics.

Wood products
These are handicraft materials made from trees but one finds that this product is not developed as those ones in neighboring countries like Kenya and Tanzania because in mot case it’s making is still traditional. for instance the milk container from eastern Rwanda province.

the case in the textile industry, having before created most of the textiles in smaller quantities in the home
One of the first and most prominent of these changes was in the textile industry. The textile industry was the staple of the industrial revolution. Before the industrial revolution, the textile, or more specifically cotton, industry was performed at home. It happened in a few steps. First, cotton was farmed and harvested. Then, the in home process began. Workers called “spinners” would take the cotton and form it into strands. These strands were the ...

Several systems of making goods had grown up by the time of the Industrial Revolution. In country districts families produced most of the supplies that they used, while in the cities merchandise was made in shops, and manufacturing was strictly regulated by the guilds and by the government. The goods made in these shops were limited and costly. The merchants needed cheaper items, as well as larger quantities, for their growing trade. They had to establish another system of producing goods. The cottage or domestic industry filled in the gap for some time, because it gave the merchant a large supply of manufactured articles at a low price. It provided employment for every member of a craft worker's family and gave jobs to skilled workers who had no capital to start businesses for themselves. A few merchants who had enough capital had gone a step further. They brought workers together under one roof and supplied machines. These establishments were factories.
Well-being is a combination of physical, mental, emotional and social factors. It is seen, as a stable state of being satisfied with one’s self and their life that doesn’t fluctuate due to a single even, person, or feeling (Begley and Begun, 2000). Well-being consists of eight dimensions, emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social and spiritual (Begley and Begun, 2000). For the purpose of this study we are going to be looking at the emotional and occupational sides of well-being. Emotional state of well being is the ability to recognize, understand and express a full range of emotions and channel our emotions into healthy behaviours that satisfy our personal and social goals (Ryff, 1985). Occupational is achieving personal satisfaction and enrichment in one’s life through work, education, and personal goals and passions (Ryff, 1985).
Many of our people in our society throughout the years, have been buying different types of products and commodities from craft workers that are very personally close with one another and also from smal...
The process of completeing my research task taught me many valuable lessons. In compiling the literature review I learnt how to filter information, as well as how to use citations. The method and results section showed me how to transfer information from labels into suitable graphs and tables, in order to make comparisons and analysises. I learnt how to critically examine graphs and tables, and draw accurate and educated conclusions when completing the discussion section. Through this project, I also realised the importance of reflecting back on any limitations encountered inorder to learn from your mistakes, and find improvements for further research. In addition, I learnt how to reference sources correctly.
...the beginnings of industrialization. The social issues are still unresolved, despite the reincarnation of the Arts and Crafts movement in the emerging Maker Movement. Factory conditions and the treatment of workers is still a prominent social issue. The distribution of resources and wealth is still uneven. The effects of industrialization which surfaced less than a century after the invention of the first mechanized processes are an even bigger problem today than they were almost two hundred years ago.
Each and every piece is conceptualized with designer and a full scale drawing. A prototype is made to finalize the templates before the actual production is commenced. All the furniture is made using traditional joinery, where each piece of furniture is independently fitted and joined to provide with the coordinated greater strength. All the fine details are hand-carved, distinguishing it from assembly line furniture. Each piece of furniture is treated like a piece of art with several long processes before it is finally ready. The wood is sanded properly to bring out its inner beauty and the stunning grain structure. The grains in the wood react with the stain to give the furniture a natural look. We use water-based stains to stain the wood. There is no total destruction or clouding to cover the original grains. In the final finish, we use natural organic ingredients such as shellac dissolved in denatured alcohol and apply it on the surface of the wood. In the end, we finally hand- rub the surface with oil to give an incrustation and protection which gains an gracefully beautiful as it ages.
Economically Western Europe in the XVIII century was an example of rather fast rates of industrial development. At the beginning of the century, the European manufactory entered a closing stage of the development and in a number of the countries (England, Holland, and some branches of production in France) began to prevail over craft. In the majority of other European countries (France, Germany) development of a manufactory restrained feudalism remnants. Shop privileges, narrowness of the domestic market.
“Every nail driven should be as another rivet in the machine of the universe.” –Thoreau. Carpentry is a worldwide occupation that includes building and repairing things made from wood and other materials. A carpenter probably built the house that you live in and the building that you work in. Carpenters are located all around the world in places you would never think.
