1.0 INTRODUCTION
Workplace discriminations were not a new issue in management today. It means inequitable and unfair to workers or job applications based on personal attributes that are irrelevant to job performance. Wayne (1995) says that it can be defined as the giving of an unfair advantage (or disadvantage) to the members of the particular group in comparison to the members of another group. In working area, discriminations are disclosed with its occurrences. For example, discrimination by colleagues to new employees is a widespread scenario in an organization. If that discrimination lasts for a long time, it not only brings negative feedback to employees but also the employer. A victim who is being discriminated from peers is suffering in psychological and emotional disturbance, and then leading in decreasing of performance and poor cooperation between employees.
Whether it be with the woman that is over qualified, but gets turned down so the under qualified male sports fanatic can step into the position or to the senior citizen who knows the job in and out so that the more athletic younger version can fill the spot, it’s happening in almost every business. Discrimination is said to be that of the past in some minds, but others are not afraid to acknowledge that it even exists. Possibly that is because one only finds out what they want to see. There are several discriminations in the workplace, such as age discrimination, race discrimination and gender discrimination.

Create pay scales based on the job being executed and the person filling the position. Hire qualified people and compensate them equally. This could serve to eliminate gender discrimination.
3.0 CONCLUSION
In most developed countries, there are more women than men enter to university for advance study. In addition, the women always perform better than men by getting good grades in college or university. For example, there are more women than men are educated to get doctors in Britain. Since women are increasingly playing the important role in the international development, hence the issue of gender discrimination should be resolved as well as possible.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary (2015) defines disgust as “annoyance and anger that you feel toward something because it is not good, fair, or appropriate.” Lastly it defines apprehension as “the act or power of perceiving or comprehending.” Unfortunately these words are used to quantify how employers treat disabled employees. With such contempt towards this large base of employees the question that’s inevitable is “can unions help fix the wrongs that are being committed”. During the course of this paper we will explore the issues that employees and employers are facing in the current work environment. Lastly, we will dive into the question of unions being
Gender discrimination is defined as prejudice against an individual due to his or her gender or sex. Discrimination against women has been occurring for years and continues to pose an issue today, especially in institutions such as the workforce. In the past, women were limited to very few rights; they were not permitted to vote and were considered as “property”. The only real jobs they had were housewives.and only a handful of women were in the labor force. In today’s society, women compose more than half of the workforce, yet they earn a significantly less amount compared to their male counterparts for completing the same tasks. Due to the subtleness of the issue, many still continue to be unaware of the discrimination which occurs. Though the issues regarding gender discrimination have gone through improvements recently, the issue at hand
Why does racism continue to take place in the United States today? According to the sociology textbook Our Social World, minority groups are ones that differ from the dominant group, which is why they have less power, fewer privileges, and are discriminated against. The textbook also explains how there are numerous ways for dominant and minority groups to interact. Genocide is the killing of the minority group by the dominant group, while pluralism is the complete opposite whereas different ethnic or racial groups accept one another’s beliefs and values, and manage to respect each other. Multiple strategies to cope with prejudice, discrimination, and racism are used by minority groups to deal with their statuses: passing (blending in with dominant groups), acceptance, avoidance, and aggression. In America, racism against minority groups has improved, but is nowhere near ending. To determine people’s opinions on racism and why it exists, I
Despite there being many reasons as to why people discriminate homosexuals, the most popular ones are due to their religion or cultural norm. They include acts of verbal and physical abuse towards individuals who are homosexual. For those who are homosexuals, they are verbally abused by name calling such as fag, homo or sissy more than two dozen a day. There was a survey conducted by Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network and found that 86 percent of LGBT teens are being harassed at school in 2007. In 2013, 82 percent of teens had problems from previous year with bullying about sexual orientation. 64 percent felt unsafe at school and 32 percent did no go to school because of feeling unsafe. Even as an adult homosexual are attacked verbally.
Gender discrimination is the action of being treated worse than others, simply because of your gender. It can occur once or continually over time, by the opposite or same sex. It is an illegal practice here in the United States, based on laws enacted in 1963-4.
We’d all like to believe that we are equals within our society, but democracy doesn’t necessarily ensure equality. We all must work for a living, and the constitution would have you believe that racial minorities and women would have equal opportunities and equal wages as white men. But this is not the case. For many years people, mainly girls and women, have fought to equalize genders with some success, specifically in the work force. Gender inequality is not only a historic issue but one that still exists today in the form of the gendered pay gap.
Sex is one of the most central themes in society today, with generally everybody in the world, adults and children, either seeing it in the mass media or taking part in it, whether it be for their career, for reproductive reasons, or for pleasure. Because of its predominance, sexuality plays an important, if not the most important, role in social inequality, causing double standards, violence and internal self-worth issues for minorities. Factors such as pornography, prostitution, and the way people view homosexuality and intersexuality as repugnant all influence the prejudice ways in which society views and treats women, homosexuals, and intersexuals.
Discrimination is known to exist in all workplaces, sometimes it is too subtle to notice, and other times it is exceedingly obvious. It is known that everyone subconsciously discriminates, dependant on their own beliefs and environments that surround them. However, discrimination can be either positive or negative in their results, and sometimes discrimination is a necessary part of life.
Education is the most important in the critical rank for reducing gender inequalities. Women’s status socioeconomically has increased with the time change, but only because they have more means of entry to improved circumstances. Forms of gender inequality still exist in our society, even in the highly developed world. Sex-segregation
These qualified women are being discriminated against because men believe the women will have to go on maternity leave, stay home for their children, and many other things that would decrease the likelihood of them being productive workers.
Some sociological reason that gender, race and age discrimination will occur in America society is because of prejudice, racial stereotyping and racism. When thinking about discrimination the first thing that would come to a person’s mind is segregation. Discrimination is treatment or consideration of making distinction in favor of or against, a person, group or class. When gender is a part of discrimination it deals with the male or female humans not being good enough for something. Discriminating a person’s race deals with the person ethnicity, to judge because of your skin color can be very degrading to a person. When you are not accepted because of your age it makes a person feel devalue, even when that person has the credentials for that
Discrimination is a feasible method of making decisions in life based on the group, class, or category to which a person belongs to. “In an ideal world, people would be equal in rights, opportunities, and responsibilities, despite their race or gender. In the world we live in, however, we constantly face all kinds of neglect based on different attributes.” When one hears the word discrimination, the first thought that comes to mind is racial discrimination. In fact, it does not solely have to be racial discrimination. There are many forms of discrimination such as age, disability, transgender, and sex discrimination. This paper will focus on discrimination based on gender, race and age in the workplaces.
Work plays an important role in our daily life, it is considered much more huge part of our personal life. During our daily work we make many relationships throughout our career history. Sometimes these relationships become lasting, and sometimes employment discrimination might happen. This relationships that we thought it last could be cut off by the devastation of claims of discriminatory treatment. Discrimination in the workforce has been an issue since the first people of workers in United States in the present day and as well in the past. Some employees were subjected to a harsh working conditions, verbal abuse, denial of advancement,, and many other injustices. There was also the fact that certain employees were being treated differently than other employees.
Discrimination in the context of work consists of disadvantaging an employee, a trainee or a candidate for hiring, because of certain non-objective criteria. Of course, this practice is prohibited. Indeed, any decision of the employer with regard to the employee (hiring, renewal of the employment contract, training, promotion, transfer, disciplinary sanctions, dismissal, ...) must be based on professional considerations and no personal order. Discrimination can be direct or indirect. If it is direct then the unequal treatment is intended and results from the intolerance of a person or a group of people vis-à-vis the individual characteristics presented by the discriminated.
Women were constantly restrained during the early nineteen-thirties, keeping them from expressing their individuality. They were constantly facing societal expectations. Women also faced others challenges as well, such as the different expectations from people in their social classes. These multiple expectations created a barrier for many women that few dared to break. These expectations led to a constant schedule for these women, making it so their whole life was already planned ahead for them while they had to act as their social calendars suggested.
