As a young child, growing up in Jamaica, I have always been interested in technology. The thought of one man or woman being able to craft their ideas into a physical product, that could improve a person’s daily life fascinates me. I believed such people were superhuman. Ultimately, at an early age, I came to the conclusion that becoming an inventor was what I need to strive for. It was not the most glorified job profession in my country, but I was determined to follow my ambition.

Many people can probably recall great American inventors like Alexander Graham Bell, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Edison but can’t for an Jamaican inventor. The reality is that they are not well known. This lack of knowledge is what drive many people in my community …show more content…

Although I am confident in my ability to excel and walk the path laid before me by my predecessors, my path was not a straight road. Being an immigrant and the first person in my family to attend college I was faced with many hardship. I came from a working-class family that earned enough to live a comfortable life and only buy the necessities, so access to technology in my home was limited. Nevertheless, my drive could not be stopped. I went to the local and school library any chance I could to get books on technology and surf the internet for new inventors and new advances in technology. I joined any group I could to further my education about technology and how they worked. Through hard work and perseverance I overcame many hardships in my life and became the dedicated, hardworking, and motivated student I am today. I believe that receiving this scholarship will not only relfe my family and I from the financial stress of me attending college, but will also propel me one step closer to attaining my dream of becoming an inventor and impacting the life of many people around me like my role models did.
