Recommended: Conflict management strategies

The journey to becoming a lawyer is long and enduring with a lot of responsibilities, but the determination and hard work is the key to success. As a child I always dreamed of becoming a lawyer and wanting to know the history behind it, and till this day I still have that dream. The life of Thurgood Marshall, Marian Wright Edelman, and Johnnie Cochran has also inspired my dream to become a lawyer. To accomplish that dream I know I will have to stay focused and ahead to achieve that goal.
“A lawyer is a person whose profession is to represent clients in a court of law or to advise or act for clients in other legal matters.” (Dictionary.com, web 2014) The history of lawyers is quite similar to the history of mankind dating back to the dawn of man, although no one really knows or discovered the first lawyer. (Letclaw.com) Law is a system of rules created by the sovereign government. It is said that that earliest trace of lawyers were orators of ancient Greece. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the start of the Early Middle Ages, the legal profession of Western Europe collapsed. (Wikipedia.com.Lawyer, Web 2014)
Being a Lawyer comes with many responsibilities. A lawyer must present you fairly within bounds of the law, meaning with upmost respect. They should be able to talk with you in a timely and effective manner. They should also obey by your rules and decisions unless it is not legal. A lawyer should not create any source of conflict during the time of your case. They must keep your money in an escrow account. A lawyer should also keep client conversations confidential. Edelman has received many honorary degrees and many awards including the Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Prize, a MacArthur Foundation Prize Fellowship, and the Heinz Award In 2000, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, and the Robert F. Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Award for her writings which include: Families in Peril: an Agenda for Social Change. (Wikipedia, Marian Wright-Edelman, 2014). Marian Wright- Edelman has received many lifetime achievements throughout her life and has made many accomplishments as well. Looking back on her work gives me the faith and courage to pursue my dream in becoming a lawyer.
