In the book Legend, for each ten year old, they must take a major test called the Trial. The Trial determines what college you will be able to attend, and most important what social class you will be apart of. Comparing the Trial to our world, there is a similar test, the SAT’s. Let's compare these two tests. First off, let’s discuss the different subjects these two tests will be testing on. In the Trials, written exams are only one third of the exam, while on our tests, all portions are written. For the Trials, physical fitness and spoken tests are the other parts of the test. I feel like in our society, physical exams are not needed because we don’t need to be soldiers anymore, but on the other hand I actually think the spoken test would benefit our society because people would have to answer on the dot and could not prepare a lot. If you do well, you get into the top universities and become a top official. If you place poorly, you become a poor homeless person. In our world, the outcomes can affect your life but not nearly as much. Even if you do poorly, or maybe drop out, you still have a lot of potential and chances to take.But in the Trials, if you mess up, you are pretty screwed. Third, you can not re-do the Trials. This is crucial since you can not have a trial (ha geddit) run and see what the test is like. This makes it harder to prepare and more surprising than our test. I personally feel like this is worse because the rich might be able to gain copies of earlier copies to review while the poor don’t. Lastly, the age when you take the test is quite different. Taking a test when you are eleven can be quite difficult and stressful. I feel like the age which you take in our world is better since you know more information about the world in all. Your brain hasn’t taken in enough of the world and the amount of time you get to prepare is dramatically
