People have various emotions inside of themselves. Some individuals express their feelings and some do not, though experts say it’s best to express feelings. “Pent–up feelings –both positive and negative –can affect our own health […]” (Galea). People have ways to show their emotions. Individuals smile because they are happy, frown because they are mad and cry because they are sad, but are they sad? When hearing the term ‘cry’ an automatic belief pops up in a thought that something bad or sad has happened to the person, which the reason may be why they cry. Nevertheless, had that true, does the term “cry” only happens when something bad or sad has happened to us? Ever noticed when a couple get married, they cry, when they see their significant other knowing that they are going to be in love forever. This is similar to when families cry when they see their beloved ones come back home from their duty from the service, or when a pair of people meet their children for the first time whether if it’s a newborn baby or when they meet their adoptive child. Depression was once believed to affect mainly adults for various reasons. It was hardly ever seen in minors or college students. Today depression is more common in younger populations mainly college students. There are many things that can trigger depression in college students, such as the environment, anxiety, and the fear of failure. All these things can contribute to depression in college students and sometimes cannot be seen. Many college students will never seek help, and many wont ever admit that they struggle with it.
Stress is a common factor in all of our daily lives. Learning to manage stress can be life changing and be very useful in both our personal and work environments. Stress can be caused by many different situations, such as family problems, work problems, finances, deadlines, information overload, unhealthy eating, lack of exercise, public speaking, trust issues, friendships, and so on. Stress is defined as, “an adaptive response, mediated by individual characteristics and/or psychological processes, that is a consequence of any external action, situation, or event that places special physical and/or psychological demands upon a person” (Kreitner and Kinicki, p.551). Stress triggers are different for different people. Although we would like to avoid stress, it is impossible. We need stress in our lives in order to stay alive and help us make quick decisions in life or death situations. Stress can actually be a good thing such as eustress, stress that is good or produces a positive outcome. When a person experiences stress it causes one of two reactions, fight or flight, which allows us to make the decision to either accept the situation or run away. According to Kreitner and Kinicki , “Physiologically, this stress response is a biochemical “passing gear” involving hormonal changes that mobilize the body for extraordinary demands” ( p.550). The main point is we cannot avoid stress; stress is good for us to a certain extent. Our efforts need to be aimed at managing stress and learning to live with and embrace it.

Most people would think motivation stimulates a person to achieve a goal, while also thinking emotion is the only the feelings that come from the motive, the actions that are caused from either achieving or of failure of the goal. I believe that happiness is the key to living a good and prosperous life. Through all of the sadness and hate in the world, happiness gives me hope. It gives not only me, but others hope and joy. Happiness gives us something to hold onto, therefore we cherish it as much as we can.
