There are many ways each of us can help the planet. We do not have to do something really big and notorious to really make a change. We can help by doing small changes that make immense differences. I am here to persuade people to help our precious planet in a really interesting and maybe fun way. One of the easiest ways to help is by using environmentally friendly materials. We can find many useful materials made especially for our Earth’s benefit. I must say that a person really helps if she or he has a great motivation for something they really like. My question is: what are the young people really interested in? I would say nowadays many people are worried about their appearances. Wouldn’t it be fun to have sustainable clothes? I am really happy to state that clothing that helps our environment exists. There is sustainable fashion, also called eco-fashion. In sustainable fashion the clothes are created and produced to help the environment. Sustainable fashion brands use organic materials to do so.
To really prove that there are sustainable fashion brands, I am going to focus particularly in one: People Tree. People Tree has been a fashion industry as a pioneer in Fair Trade and environmentally sustainable fashion. People Tree makes garments that benefit the people and the planet, because that is the central of everything they do. This brand was the first to develop integrated supply chain for organic cotton from farm to final product. Also they were the first organization anywhere to achieve GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification on a supply chain entirely in the developing world. People Tree pioneers sustainable methods of production that minimize environmental impact. They choose natural and recycled pro...

...ot famous enough. I have come to the conclusion that they are more expensive than the general clothing brands. Also, since they invest a lot of money in a sustainable production of their products, they cannot afford big marketing campaigns, such as the ones that the dominant clothing brands already have.
As I stated before, this is a really good way to grab people’s attention towards a serious problem: humans’ mistreatment of our planet and the need to stopping it. We can take action towards this Earth’s environmental issues in a fun way through fashion. I think it is a really fun way to bring fashion and social responsibility together. We must persuade others to help our planet, because if it is not us, who would change our world?

American Eagle Outfitters specializes in denim jeans that are higher-quality and more affordable than Aéropostal and A&F. AEO’s jeans are always updated with the latest fashions and trends. They even have an AE jean guide online so their customers get the perfect fit every time. AEO is also very earth friendly and has been making their merchandise packaging made out of recycled matter. AEO noted that they had a 2010 holiday collection called “Eco Shop” which presented both men and women’s clothing that was crafted out of qualified organic and recycled material. Many of the attire were made out of unrefined cotton that was grown without the use of hazardous synthetic pesticides which resulted in fewer fossil fuel emissions. (Product Innovation) Customers who are environmentally friendly would much rather purchase AEO than the other opponents. This is something their competitors, Aéropostal and A&F, haven’t done for their customers and the environment.
This article “young people” by David Suzuki is a persuasive/argumentative article instilling the future of the environment to the young people of the world. David Suzuki also shows us the issues regarding unnecessary and unsustainable waste pollution. David uses young people like a 14-year-old David grassby as an example of how young people can make an impact on society. The article takes a look at the present and focuses on the future. I agree with the statement “Youth speak with power and clarity that only innocence confers and because we love them, adults have to make changes to the way we live” because young youth think they know everything and that they’re always right but they really aren’t. For example, when I was younger I used to think I was old enough to watch rated r horror movies but i really wasn’t, I remember getting really scared and my parents would say “I told you so”, I also used to believe that I didn’t need to go to school, that it was a waste of time but as I got older I realized that school is very important and
The brand, which is a direct competitor to companies like Michael Kors and Kate Spade, is still a privately owned company with many investors waiting to get a chance to invest in the exponentially growing business. This gives it an extra edge over its competitors as even before going public it has a bigger market evaluation than them.
In society today, the clothing that someone wears is basically a billboard for his or her personal, or family's financial situation. For children in public schools, fitting in with the popular, or most fashionable people is probably the most important thing to them. When children are preoccupied wi...
Fashion is everything to society and the media. The fashion industry has transformed into a necessity in the life of people. Everyone wants to look good, feel fabulous and feel as if we belong with everyone else. The envy and desire to wear certain things and look a certain way all come, from wearing the latest fashion handbags, accessories, dresses, shoes, and the list goes on. But, when is considering fashion into an individual’s life going too far to the extreme? Many do not consider the whereabouts of fashion materials and how the environment is affected by the mere existence of certain garments. Some may believe these objects grow on trees. But that is clearly not the case. Even though it would be nice. The fashion industry as a whole, has been notorious from green issues caused by their lack of sensitivity to the environment, conspicuous and unnecessary consumption of materials, encouraging an “throw-away” society and image issues that support women and young adults to look a certain way to feel “beautiful.” This is an issue that has increased over the past decades. Not just women, but men also feel the uncontrollable need to do whatever it takes to look like the celebrities they see on television and on the runways. The thought that the materials to make those desired items may have caused the life of animals or the destruction of mother nature does not come into mind. Countless people are concerned about conserving planet Earth and keeping it healthy. The fashion world has been targeted for many corruptions.
2010: H&M becomes the world’s largest consumer of organic cotton and continues to increase its use of sustainable materials in the following years.
This article is about the overall impacts of fast fashion. The particular section referenced discusses possible solutions and alternatives to fast fashion. It talks about how it is possible to produce environmentally friendly clothing through the use of organic cotton, bamboo, hemp, and other fiber crops that require less pesticides, water, and other inputs. It goes on to share how certain brands are beginning to implement the model of sustainable clothing. The point of this article is to introduce readers to the topic of fast fashion, give background, and show readers what they
As I open my eyes to the world around me, I am blinded by the misery and the despair of people. I am subjected to seeing the lack of style exhibited. It is sinful to identify expensive blasé attire purchased for brand names that are nothing short of atrocious. In defense to this calamity, I can bring the world an extensive fashion insight, a view not a single person has tackled before. Combined textures, fabrics, and designs, undiscovered brands, form fitting and flattering attire. I can make appearances at modern and splendor fashion shows. Tying in the styles exhibited into everyday wear; combined with taste and sophistication. I can reveal different fashions for different personalities, and help people uncover their inner-character. I can inform the public of colors that look good together, and identify clothes you shouldn’t be caught dead wearing. As a fashion journalist, I will close the windows of yesterday and open doors of today and tomorrow. Identifying trends, revealing hip shops, and traveling to fashion exhibits, overpriced name brands will be replaced with glamorous st...
Many people think fashion is just all about design or the clothing that you wear. In fact, the definition is “a popular way of dressing during a particular time or among a particular group of people” (Fashion). Well personally, I think that have got it wrong, and there are many more things about fashion that people do not realize. Consumerism and consumption play a huge role on what fashion is today and what goes into it, and not just about design or designers, but also socially and environmentally. Consumerism and consumption impact the social and environmental aspect of the fashion industry because of what people buy, why they buy things, what type of things they look for in terms of quality or brand, and also where they go to shop.
Sustainable manufacturing requires the green fashion knowledge from consumers to make it work. Green fashion knowledge is, “Environmental attitude models or consumers’ perception and beliefs on green products”. (Cervellon & Wernerfelt, 2012, p. 178) This is crucial because it raises awareness for consumer for the environment and hence promote the importance of green and sustainable textile manufacturing. But consumers often get the wrong idea and clarity of the true meaning behind it, “Consumers seem to doubt the existence of sustainable production processes, especially in the fashion industry where manufacturing is often outsourced to emerging countries” (Cervellon & Wernerfelt, 2012, p.178) Consumers often believed that sustainable manufacturing is only practiced by a minimal amount of manufacturers, so the concern for sustainable fashion is often neglected. On the other hand, the image of green fashion is often related to dull and not in style, so the majority of people will prefer fast fashion that is trendy, up to date and cheap. To promote the benefits of green fashion, it will take time to educate consumers and transfer knowledge to them. In a study performed by Marie-Ce ́cile Cervellon and Anne-Sophie
Sustainable fashion allows consumers to further control fashion brands, by purchasing more or fewer items. Purchasing items creates more jobs, which in return creates more money flowing through the economy. Fast fashion and mass-produced clothing do effect the environment and factory workers. That being said, how does fast fashion directly impact the consumer and their personal choices? The Journal of Consumer Behaviour article entitled The Values and Motivations Behind Sustainable Fashion Consumption provides research data collected through semi-structured interviews that answers that question. The research finds sustainable fashion consumers show an association between the cost of sustainable fashion with quality while being motivated to purchase it due to the products supporting a community. (Davies & Lunblad, 2015) Sustainable clothing is more expensive and is difficult for all consumers to purchase. The high cost of sustainable clothing is due to the use of organic crops, made to order items, and the cost of manufacturing clothes made by individuals working in a safe environment and making a fair wage. (Chong, 2017) While consumers may have a desire to help their community sustainable clothing is more expensive and is not readily available. Consumers are still very much interested in fashion that fulfills their personal wants and needs. “Without sustainable fashion suppliers providing core product and meaningful psychological benefits, it is doubtful that many of the consumers would continue to consume for purely altruistic reasons.” (Davies & Lunblad, 2015) Sustainable fashion limits a consumers ability to wear the most recent fashions or styles of their peers. “Given the importance of identity construction to many consumers, drivers to be ‘fashionable’ often outweigh drivers to be ethical or sustainable. This paradox highlights the clash of the desire to consume with
Behind fast-changing fashion trends, the apparel industry generates substantial environmental and resource depletion problems throughout the textile lifecycle. To respond to these trends, fashion designers and merchandisers have been motivated to practice sustainability in design and production. Some sustainable options are available, such as organic fibers and environmentally safe dyes. Still, there are challenges for apparel designers and merchandisers when trying to realize sustainability (Gam & Banning, 2011). Primary practices involve replacing harmful chemicals with environmentally friendly materials, and reducing amounts of waste and resource consumption through apparel recycling. A more recent sustainable movement in the industry is slow fashion. It is a socially conscious movement that shifts consumers ' mindsets from quantity to quality, encouraging people to buy high-quality items less often (Fletcher, 2012). Slow fashion encompasses slow production and consumption (Jung & Jin 2014). Another solution can be C2CAD, it is a sustainable apparel design and production model- cradle to cradle apparel production model, which can be useful for both apparel designers and manufacturers to overcome a few production issues of sustainable apparel (Gam, Cao, Farr, & Heine, 2009). It is very important to document current challenges the apparel industry experiences
There is no doubt that human activity is having a significant impact on our environment. These environmental impacts include depleting our natural resources, air and water pollution, climate change, destruction of habitats, and loss of biodiversity. Because of these growing concerns, we need to learn how to live sustainably. Living sustainably will allow us to conserve our limited resources more wisely so they will be available for future generations (Withgott & Brennan, 2011, Chapter 1).
One fairly simple way that people can immediately contribute to the green movement is by recycling. “Recycling is the process of turning one products useful part or parts into a new product; this is done to conserve on the consumption of resources, energy and space used in landfills.” (Recycling Facts and Benefits) Most household paper, plastic, glass, aluminum, and cardboard products are recyclable. Many towns in the United States offer recycling services that will pick up your recyclables and transport them to a recycling facility. These facilities reuse the materials that the recyclables are made from and make new products. This process saves energy, and conserves resources by reducing the amount of renewable resources that would normally end up in a landfill or in an incinerator. These recycling plants “increase jobs in manufacturing while simultaneously increasing the Unite State’s competitiveness in industry.”(Recycling | Reduce, Reuse, Recycle | US EPA.)
Sustainable fashion is among the developing design viewpoint and movement of sustainability with the main objective of establishing a structure, which can be sustained for the foreseeable future in terms of conservationism and social accountability. This implies that all the products made are developed with much consideration to the environmental and social influence all through its overall lifetime encompassing its carbon imprint. It is revealed that sustainable fashion is not just a short time trend but one, which could endure for a long time (Fletcher 76). Beforehand, conservationism used to represent itself in the fashion world through the contribution of a portion of transactions of products for a charitable reason.
