Entering Into The Medical Field

It is really amazing how one voice-a belief in your ability can change the course of your career and life. Unbeknownst to me, my journey into the healthcare field would begin during my high school (secondary school) years. I’m not exactly sure what my Biology teacher saw in me that suggested that I would be a good fit for a career in healthcare.
Sometimes in life, you don’t get to choose your career. Sometimes in life, your career chooses you.
I can’t say that being in the medical field was the furthest thing from my mind. I loved learning and I was always interested in science. However, I also had a diverse interest set and, perhaps, wasn’t brave enough to see myself practicing medicine. After all, I had dealt with hospitals enough as a child. My mother had been sick for much of my childhood and most of her life for that matter. To me, hospitals were places of pain and despair, often loss and grief. Yet, this teacher began to steer me in this direction, and after an experimental program aimed to introduce students to various professions, encourage to continue education and prepare them to enter the workforce was started in school, she suggested that I seriously look into the healthcare field. All these years later, I am now seeking to enter into a Medical Residency Program. …show more content…

It goes without saying that entering into the healthcare field has been a life changing experience. My whole opinion of hospitals and the sick changed when I began pursuing my career in medicine. The realization of making a difference in someone’s life. That exquisite sense of purpose and, unique sense of pride. The care and compassion that no healthcare worker can do without. The honor of being trusted with another human being’s health and well-being. I am so thankful now that I did heed my teacher’s advice and pursue
