Introduction:
As we all know that, English is a global language. Language is a familiar feature of our daily life. It is a human and social activity without which human beings cannot function in the society. It is one of the basic needs , and one has to learn it.It is the flesh and blood of our culture.According to Leonard Bloomfield(1935), “Each community is formed by the activity of language.”
Without language, humanity cannot exist. Basically there are two forms of language, verbal and non-verbal communication. A non-verbal communication includes gestures, facial expressions or body language. But, a verbal communication means a systematic use of certain set of words. All the scholars have used their own methods to make the difficulties less.
We suggest that English language can be improved by making them learn the language from the first class itself with proper grammar rules. The teachers should work hard and should provide with better communicative exercises that would focus on all the four skills, Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing. And it should be made compulsory that students will have try all the communicative activities.

1. What are the basic difficulties faced by Gujarati medium students to learn English at Tertiary
Communication between humans would not be possible without the development of language. Gee and Hayes (2011), states that Language is a physically present set of rules that are established cognitively and socially that guides groups of humans to communicate with each other (p. 6). Language can take the form of many types of communication. Language that is seen, also known as non-verbal communication can be described as written language, body language, gestures and Auslan (Grellier & Goerke, 2014, p. 220). Language that is heard, also known as oral language is the ability to communicate through speech (Gee & Hayes, 2011. p. 6). Oral language has been present amoung all humanity since the beginning of time, starting from one original language.
The key source of communication is language. We utilize language in order to impart our thoughts and feelings with other individuals or groups of people. We can even say that language is considered distinctive to human beings, as this is not applicable to animals. There is a multitude of languages around the word and certain countries have their own national languages such as the Philippines, which has a variety of local languages or dialects that people use in different regions for expressive and receptive communication.
Statement Problem In our country, most of the time English classes are directed in a very basic way and it makes difficult to acquire the English language appropriately. Moreover, the students hate to learn grammatical rules to make sentences and complete practices, but the grammar is the framework of language and the teachers must enable learning in his/her students. The target of grammar instruction is to allow students to carry out their communication purposes to facilitate understanding. In order to get that, students need to connect grammar with result, besides the students need to communicate not to be master in grammatical aspects.
As an inevitable consequence of technology and globalization, society is demanding on adult population to learn English. It is widely known that English is the dominant language in business, tourism and science. That is why, as a lingua franca, knowing the language has become fundamental to enter the job market and to succeed in business and education. It is also evident that, for an effective communication among people from different countries, the English language is the best option. But this is just one aspect related to the many reasons that adults have to learn English in this society.
English, the language mostly of the colonizers during the British Raj became accepted to the higher strata, educationally, economically and socially progressive class of the Indian society during the post-independence period. English is the language of industrialization and modernization, and now it is the language of globalization. Observing the rapid change in the place of English in India Scrase remarked “english is recognized as an important global or international language, essential for professional employment and significantly, a key component of the cultural capital of middle class Indians”.

We are witnessing English becoming an essential language among a variety of countries. The needs may be different, but the effects of change almost always begin with businesses and the Internet, trickling down to affect the service industries and low wage earners. In many job settings, English can be a precursor to the skill itself. This research explores the causes of learning difficulties from the perspective of second language (L2) adult learners in relation to their overall L2 proficiency and L2 performance and knowledge. This study, particularly, intended to answer these following questions: What are the students’ difficulties in learning reading?, What are the students’ difficulties in learning speaking?, What are the students’ difficulties in learning writing?, What are the students’ difficulties in learning listening?, What are the students’ difficulties in learning grammar and vocabulary?
