The key source of communication is language. We utilize language in order to impart our thoughts and feelings with other individuals or groups of people. We can even say that language is considered distinctive to human beings, as this is not applicable to animals. There is a multitude of languages around the word and certain countries have their own national languages such as the Philippines, which has a variety of local languages or dialects that people use in different regions for expressive and receptive communication. Moreover, the ability to communicate in English is a very crucial factor in being able to compete in a globally competitive environment. The first four units offer students many opportunities to practice as they learn the English language. The table of contents shows the grammar, topics, and functions that are included in each unit. The first page of every single unit presents all the phrases and words that they need to be proficient in that unit and also includes a listing of incorporated essential grammatical areas. In addition, an engaging story that utilizes the language that has been acquired is found at the end of each unit. It is interesting to note that the fifth unit in each group of five presents exercises devised to support and strengthen the language grasped in the first four units. The book also has an index section found at the end of book that shows all the phrases and words used. It aids students to the specific unit that the language initially appeared so that they can ascertain the definition of the word by studying it in context.
The subsequent second section of this paper includes a detailed description of the textbook and indicates where the book originated, where and how it is used, and its target audience. I decided to choose unit 1 and not the other units as it focuses on something that is very fundamental in any conversations, and that is asking and answering about names, as well as talking about ownership. The first unit deals with the foundation to any conversation, which is basic self-introduction. It also teaches and models English learners how to introduce themselves and provide useful personal information. The book does not include explicit direct instruction in grammar. However, grammar significantly affected the way the book was formed or organized. The structures in unit 1 include simple present tense, negatives, and possessive adjectives. According to the introduction of the textbook English Made Easy, the authors Jonathan Crichton and Pieter Koster deem that beginner students learning the English language need not confuse their learning with complex grammatical labels and rules.
