For this evaluation to be completely effective I will take a stance and be completely honest. It has been over ten years since the last time I attended school. Which means I graduated in 2007. When I was in school we did not focus on MLA format what so ever, and even if we did the chances of me are remembering it are very slim. Coming back to school I breezed through my English 101 class and was told that I only need a minor understanding of MLA format. As I sat in on my first day of English 102 I thought to myself how wrong my teacher was. I remember sitting through the lecture thinking I cannot pay attention to this style of teaching. I have to be honest, and say that I wasn’t too interested in writing any of the papers. My main focus was on having perfect MLA format. I feel that piece really took away from the content of the paper. I love writing. To write a creative piece about life or anything like that is a passion of mine. My favorite essay to write was the scar story. For myself, it is easier and more rewarding to write about something that is of a personal nature. That translates into the best writing, something that is from the heart is stuff that people want to actually read. Isn’t that why we write, for people to read what we write? I also feel there was not much guidance on how to write the papers or a proper layout of the expectation on the content. However, maybe that is the point of English 102, to have less instruction time and more time to think on your own. I think I was most proud of my concept paper on ADHD. It flowed the best out of all my papers and it was the easiest to research. Also, it was my first full attempt at trying MLA format and it didn’t go as bad as I thought it was going to go.
