This book is a science fiction book about a boy, Ender. Ender's real name is Andrew Wiggin, but he was given the name of Ender as a nickname. In this story, all children wear a device on their neck that allows them to be monitored. This is done because the community wants to select the smartest of all the children and make them into perfect soldiers and commanders. In the past there was alien race that attacked the human race and humans want to be ready if this attack occurs again.

In this story Ender Wiggin is the protagonist. I want to focus on a single element of this book, the understanding of one’s enemies. Ender, shows that with his triumphs and defeats that one can only successfully fight those that one understands.

Altogether, Ender illustrates this theory with his wins against his peers, his losses against adults, and his ability to win against the buggers. In each of these cases, clear understanding of the enemy becomes a vital part of the winning elixir.

In terms of his peers, the story of Ender explores the necessity of knowing the enemy. In the story, Ender fights Stilon, a classmate that hated Ender and even collected a gang to injure. In this example, Ender, however, understood how Stilson operated. He knew that a surprise attack would give him a great advantage. With this knowledge, Ender preempted Stilon and had defeated him. However, Ender also knew that the win would have to be terminal or else Stilson would return for another attack. Resulting, Ender continued his attack almost achieving near fatality, kicking Stilson in the face until he splatters blood over the ground.

Ender’s brutality is also demonstrated in another major fight that Ender had, one against Bonzo. Bonzo, similar to Stilson, strongly ...

...r exemplifies the above growing theme. The buggers did not understand that humans were an intelligent species, and made humans an enemy they could not fully evaluate. The result are the two loses, both the First Invasion and the Second Invasion.

During the Third Invasion, the bugger thought that the humans would be merciful, and resultantly, they had not prepared for an all-out war. Human on the other hand, were not so kind, and destroyed buggers colony after colony. Ultimately, the buggers only lost every encounter because of lack of thorough understanding of the enemy.

For example, during the First Invasion the alien race did not understand human communication, which resulted to leak information into the human hands. During the Second Invasion, the buggers did not fathom that humans would have no hesitation in destroying the hive queen until it was too late.
