Introduction:
To date, employment equality and employment discrimination are both serious issues faced by employers of the Irish workplace but also to the employees who are the ones being discriminated against. This can cause great difficulties for great Irish business people who are working hard especially during this economic recession. Employment equality is an issue which needs to be more dominant amongst businesses and workplaces throughout Ireland. To date employment discrimination is predominant to employment equality. Employment discrimination refers to being treated less favourable to someone else. If a rule, a practice or a policy seems fair, it can still be regarded as discrimination, although the policy is deemed fair as everyone is being treated equal but if you look closer a person can still be facing discrimination. This is because some people are more disadvantaged than others in certain fields. An example of this may be, a company has all its rules and practices in English, but certain people may be put at a disadvantage as English is not their first language.

It is illegal for employment discrimination but even with good intentions employers may tend to discriminate without even noticing. Employers want the best out of their employees and their co-workers, so there are several reasons why they may discriminate, these reasons include; inadequately trained employees, failure to abide by the law, failure to respect the rights and the policies of the business, appearance, political views and favouritism.
