The amount of useful concepts gained through the learning of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) will have a profound impact on both personal and professional life. The purpose of EQ is having the capability to express, understand and manage our emotions as-well-as having the ability to understand, interpret, and respond to the emotions of other (Bradberry & Greaves, 2009). For the purpose of the final assignment I will discuss what I learned, the results from the EQ online assessment and a strategy that will enhance my EQ. Upon the multiple concepts gained, one important lesson learned is what true social awareness really means. I have always believed my skill in observing people were fairly good and as well as a pretty good accuracy when reading people and knowing the mood of the room. However, after reading EQ 2.0, I learned that true social awareness is more than observing individuals. Social awareness is about respecting, valuing, and truly knowing others who may not share the same values or beliefs as me. I have learned to take and change my focus from internal to external. In doing so, I will be able to identify, understand, and respond to individuals emotions and behavior, which is the purpose of social awareness (Bradberry & Greaves, 2009). Developing my social awareness will not be successful until I have a strong self-awareness. I have to be able to recognize and understand my emotions first in order to see others clearly. The impact EQ will have on my career path is essential to my success. I understand in order to learn how to be present in moment and achieve active listening I have to develop a stronger EQ. Being able to connect and understand with people on a deeper level as well as viewing the world through their pers... ... middle of paper ... ... emotions into pushing through. This strategy will help in minimizing emotionally charged responses due to emotional triggers that occur in our daily lives (Bradberry & Greaves, 2009). The benefits of this strategy are personal and spiritual growth as well as happiness and a successful career. In closing, I have learned that social awareness is about understanding and identifying other peoples emotions. It is not about “me” its about those who are around me. Self-awareness cannot truly be developed if my self-awareness is not fully developed. The challenging are I am focusing on is my self-confidence. Using the strategy choice, Lean in Your Discomfort, facing my feelings and emotions instead of avoiding them will also aid in the development of my self-confidence. Ultimately the benefits of having a strong EQ will help build trust and maintain strong relationship.

By reflecting on this and as I continue throughout my career, I concur with LTC Sewell’s article on self-awareness. As I continue to “understand, refine and often redefine” myself and improve articulating who I am to others, my aim is to improve myself, for the current and future organizations that may have the opportunity to be affiliated.
Emotional Intelligence, also known as ‘EI’, is defined as the ability to recognize, authoritize and evaluate emotions. The ability to control and express our own emotions is very important but so is our ability to understand, interpret and respond to the emotions of others. To be emotionally intelligent one must be able to perceive emotions, reason with emotions, understand emotions and manage emotions.

Advocacy, delegation and task management are all important aspects involved in effective nursing management. For the purpose of this paper, the author will explore the effect emotional intelligence has on nursing delegation in alignment with organizational values. Black (2017) found that a strong value system put into action among leaders is the foundation of an organization’s climate. (Black, 2017). A leader in nursing must foster a deepening sense of self-awareness by reflection on personal values in
(2013) separated emotional intelligence into four domains, self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management (pp. 30, 38). These domains are then broken into two competencies. Self-awareness, the understanding of one 's emotions and being clear about one 's purpose, and self-management, the focused drive and emotional self-control, make up the personal competence (pp. 39, 45-46). While social awareness, or empathy and service, and relationship management, the handling of other people 's emotions, make up the social competence (pp. 39, 48, 51). These emotional intelligence competencies are not innate talents, but learned abilities, each of which contribute to making leaders more resonant and effective (p. 38). I am going to take you on a journey of what I learned and what I am continuing to learn. First I have chosen four chapters of the book that I think I have developed and learned the most from. From these chapters I picked the concepts and the theories that I have revised within myself. On a daily basis, we come in contact with individuals that we have to communicate with, wither it be for work purposes, educational purposes, or social practices. As active humans we cannot escape the idea of socializing or communication, therefor; we make it a daily routine who we communicate with, how we communicate with them, what we listen to and how we listen it. With this routine habits are formed, some are strengths but others are weaknesses that diminish the communication quality. It is extremely important for individuals to recognize these strengths and weakness within their communication routine. By recognizing their strengths, they are able to improve even further and use their ability to get them closer to goals they may have set for themselves. Recognizing their weaknesses is just as important if not more important.
As we reviewed the self awareness module this past week it was very interesting to see how the self assessments provided the class information about their own personal human behaviors. I was aware of most of the information provided but there were some tendencies I was surprised to find fitted my character. It was good to be reminded of the things I had forgotten about myself. Learning about my individuality and how I interact and respond to others based on my traits, personality and behavior has been an awakening experience. It is also great to know that I can work on areas that need improvement to become a more balance person to better assist my subordinates, teams and organizations.

Next, managing emotion, in other word, self-management: handling suffering emotional in an effectual way, moreover knowing how to lead yourself to positive emotions and not falling to negative thought. Furthermore, thirdly, empathy is a significant aspect of emotional intelligence. Following to the research from Cherniss (2000) discovered that most successful people in the workplace and social life having a capability to identify other’s emotions. Lastly, skill-relationship, which is all those three combined together and use it in efficiently way. I realised that self-awareness is important in achieving self-improvement. The more an individual understands themselves, the better he or she is at adapting life changes that is according to their needs. The more self-aware we are, it improves the level of confidence we have on oneselves. This can be achieved through greater exposure, thus widens one’s experiences and will be more likely be more accepting of others. Self-awareness will also benefit us to be more accurate in accessing
Social skills play a very crucial part in the existence of every individual. This is for the simple reason that the level unto which the social skills a person(s) has, generally describes the level of co-existence that prevail in that given environment (Sussman, 2012). The way a person describes scenarios, solves problems, analyzes situations as well as the overall communication, all form the basis of social skills. According to Jean Piaget’s theory of social (cognitive) development, it is expected that individuals should be mentally or physically prepared to face the realities of the world. It is also important to keep in mind that these skills would be effective when they are learned in early stages of life. Therefore, social skills should grow and develop when one is in the early years of life.
An individual’s ability to control and express their emotions is just as important as his/her ability to respond, understand, and interpret the emotions of others. The ability to do both of these things is emotional intelligence, which, it has been argued, is just as important if not more important than IQ (Cassady & Eissa, 2011). Emotional intelligence refers to one’s ability to perceive emotions, control them, and evaluate them. While some psychologists argue that it is innate, others claim that it is possible to learn and strengthen it. Academically, it has been referred to as social intelligence sub-set. This involves an individual’s ability to monitor their emotions and feelings, as well as those of others, and to differentiate them in a manner that allows the individuals to integrate them in their actions and thoughts (Cassady & Eissa, 2011).
Our EI is defined by self-awareness, social awareness self-management and social skills. Those with good interpersonal skills are mainly emotionally intelligent and can handle build positive relationships.
