In September 2017, Elon Musk announced that his company, SpaceX, would aim to land humans on Mars by the year 2024. The space shuttle program had been ended by NASA, and with no one left to pursue the ambitions of sending humans into space, SpaceX decided to step up to the plate. Musk tends to appear in news headlines quite often. For example, he also founded and is currently CEO of Tesla, a company that manufactures automobiles. Tesla has made huge leaps in the technology of vehicles, especially in safety, speed, and self-driving cars, giving Musk quite a lot of recognition. Musk could be considered as one of the most influential people of the 21st century, and there is no shortage of his accomplishments. Throughout his life, Elon Musk has …show more content…
After raising money for his first company, Zip2, he got pushed out of his position as CEO by investors ("How Elon Musk Started - Infographic"). As if it could not get worse, during his next business venture, PayPal, which was a new online currency, Musk once again got kicked out as CEO, this time while he was on a honeymoon. Musk had to be kicked out of the companies for a reason, most likely because of his shortcomings. For example, maybe he was not performing as well as he could have and making the easier choices instead, which can be considered an anti-heroic trait. Again, his two current companies, SpaceX and Tesla, almost went bankrupt in 2008 ("Elon Musk: SpaceX and Tesla Alive 'by Skin of Their Teeth'"). Despite his failure with multiple companies, many people fail to see the issues that arise in his work, due to the media mainly reporting on his accomplishments instead. In an investigation done by The Guardian, an interview was done with multiple Tesla employees regarding factory conditions. One of the people interviewed reported that one time he saw a man on a factory line collapse on the ground because he was working so hard (Wong). Apparently, they were told to just keep on working around him, and in effect not fully taking care of the problem at hand. Not only are these situations a problem for Musk because they give his …show more content…
Hard work, lightheartedness, and charity set him apart in the world and set examples for people to follow. However, he has been known to make some costly mistakes, all of which have impacted other people. But as Aristotle, a legendary Ancient Greek philosopher once said, "Learning is no amusement, but is accompanied with pain" (Aristotle, and Benjamin Jowett), and Musk has done his fair share of learning, as well as improving the world around him. Overall, Elon Musk has done many great things in the world to deserve being called a hero, and he continues to impact the world in many significant ways, creating a positive example for other
As James Levine is famous for saying, “I was lucky that I met the right mentors and teachers at the right moment.” To me, one of the greatest mentors of innovative scientific history was Nikola Tesla. That being said, if given the opportunity to spend the next year of my life in a different time period I would like to live during the year 1942 so I could work beside Tesla. This was the year before Tesla died, a time when he had experienced the full scope of his expertise and could impart that wisdom to me. My questions about his popularity would be answered in full. Questions about Tesla’s integrity could lead to the answer to the legendary disputes about what was rightfully his. Legends about genius inventions that could only be imagined
All my money has been invested into experiments with which I have made new discoveries enabling mankind to have a little easier life,” Tesla (1927). This philosophy of Tesla hold true on both accounts, Tesla did make life easier for mankind and he did invest all his money attempting to accomplish that task. “Despite his accomplishments, however, Tesla died penniless and without the accolades that would he would ultimately earn over a century later,” according to Whipps (2014). Aside from the above quote which reminds us of how determined Tesla was, we have various technologies that current culture utilizes on an everyday basis which solidifies his importance on society. For example, Tesla is responsible solely for or developing the technology or methods which enable, alternating current, light, x-rays, radios, remote controls, electric motors, robotics, lasers, wireless communications and potential limitless free energy. An argument could be made that Tesla has had such a profound influence on our society that the inevitable switch to battery operated, fully automatized motor vehicles is led by a company which utilizes the brand name of
Elon musk is considered visionary entrepreneur, because he is a risk taker and a billionaire entrepreneur. From learning to code at age 9 to becoming the first man to ever launch his own company’s car into space using a reusable rocket, Musk is a prime example of a true outlier. Malcolm Gladwell, author of Outliers: The Story of Success, discusses his research on the backgrounds, economic statuses, work ethics, and birthdays of successful entrepreneurs. For Musk, I believe, his success was crafted by external factors and driven by his upbringing as a child, such as the financial status of his parents, and the abundance of opportunities he received as he shaped his career. The journey of Elon Musk matters because it provides additional evidence to Gladwell’s examples that timing is one of the key factors to becoming successful.
Donald Trump’s career leading up to his presidency. Trump’s first big move into Manhattan, at the age of 30. Trump followed by building Trump plaza, an apartment development, and the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue, which became home to luxury stores as well as to Trump’s multifloor, gold gift residence and company headquarters. In the 1980s he got involved in casino’s in Atlantic city, including Trump plaza and Trump’s castle. In 1990, he opened his so-called “eight wonder of the world” the Trump Tas Mah.
Bill Gates has successfully changed two huge aspects of the world. His passions have affected billions of people, and he keeps going. Bill himself said this: "If I had set some sort of finish line, don't you think I would have crossed it by now?" (Bill … Quotes). Bill Gates has been, is, and will continue to be someone who works tirelessly to make
Elon Musk has greatly contributed and advanced the worlds of science and technology.
I have not had a single accomplishment that is worth writing about but I feel that my college completion will be one accomplishment that I will be most proud. I feel that I am taking one step forward in life that will make me become a more successful person.
I read the biography, Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance, for my outside reading book. This is a book about the life of Elon Musk, his companies and his strive to make a better world.
An Exploration of Elon Musk’s Childhood Influences Elon Musk would not have made it big in the tech industry had it not been for his seemingly terrible childhood. From bullies to abusive parents, Elon’s childhood was exceptionally sorrowful. However, it ended up being a vital part of his future, propelling him towards computers, and striving to lead the world to a fantastic future. His time alone would be spent dreaming up ideas to solve the world’s problems, from climate change to the entire banking industry. Elon Musk's miserable childhood gave him the ability to take refuge in computers and build big ideas which he would eventually act upon to lead several impressive ventures.
Meg Whitman did what no CEO would do. The President and CEO of eBay went into the trenches with her staff of fearless and dedicated individuals and from Thursday until that following Monday, they all camped out on cots for short naps and breaks... And their
Famous people exist around the world for countless reasons. Some people gain fame from starring in blockbusting movies. Others become popular by having a major role in politics. However, it is uncommon for a scientist to become a popular and well known figure in society. This is the case for Stephen Hawking.
The intention for launching the company was Musk’s lifelong passion, reaching space. After unsuccessfully trying to buy a rocket in Russia, he decided to establish his own company: SpaceX. He put 100 million dollars of his fortune to start the company. One of the key elements of success for SpaceX is their centralized engineering. All parts of the rockets are built in the company´s headquarters, instead of producing parts in different locations.
During my life I had some accomplishments. But, I will tell you the truth I cannot call them as my great accomplishments. At this point of my life I had the two greatest events. My first event was my high school graduation. The second event, which was the biggest and the most unforgettable was my wedding day.
