Eliza blinked open her eyes and looked around. She was in a bed, it’s wooden posts carved to tight perfection. She looked up, strangely, the ceiling was made up of what seemed to be golden tree branches, laced together so thickly, it seemed that no light could get through, and none did besides the light that came in through the sides of the building, which didn’t have any walls. Then, reality hit her. Where the heck was she? All she remembered was suddenly disappearing from the lake and ending up in the forest from her dream, completely dry. Was she dead? That was the only logical answer for what was going on, but somehow it didn’t seem that way to her. Everything around her felt…well…mortal. She heard a slight gasp to her left and turned to look at where the noise had come from. …show more content…
Eliza felt like she somehow knew who this girl was, her hair was a platinum blond, she had pointed elf ears, and blazing blue eyes, but she was too tired to think and her features didn’t ring a bell, so she didn’t spend much time on it. “Who are you, where am I”? Eliza quickly said before the girl could say anything, she wasn’t interested in conversation, just answers.”My name is Erawen”, said the girl. “You are in the Mountain Realm, the land of my people. I’ve been healing your wound since the day I found you by the lake, you’re lucky to be alive right now”. Erawen’s voice was light and airy, Eliza could feel her head start to bob, drowsiness beginning to take pla… no, she sat up, she needed answers. Erawen spoke up, ”What is your name”? She cocked her head slightly in question as she began to make a poultice out of the herbs she had brought. Eliza answered reluctantly,” My name is Eliza”, she wanted to keep her answers short, after all, she didn’t know who this girl was. Erawen seemed to ignore the answer, but did continue speaking, “You know, your wound has closed up a

Male supremacy was a hallmark of western society during the late nineteenth and twentieth century. For much of the Victorian Era, intellectual progress was dedicated towards the justification of the white man’s supremacy. Evolution, imperialism, and social hierarchy were all examined under the lens of already existing societal norms. While revolutionary in its concept, Charles Darwin’s explanation of evolution and the dichotomy of the sexes fit within the overarching notions on man in British Empire. With his scientific justifications in Descent of Man, Charles Darwin seeks to reinforce the dogma of male superiority. With the dawn of the twentieth century, boundaries weakened and women began to gain influence among intellectual circles. This
He just turned and left without a word. I touched Lennie’s grave. The rough touch of the wood deflecting to my fingers. I walked back to the ranch. Everyone was asleep. I wanted to run away tomorrow but I couldn’t let this chance pass up. It also prevented any chance of Candy following me. I tiptoed out of the room and went straight to the woods. I made sure to mix myself in with the shadows of the trees. I saw the river and It felt like I did it...until I felt something grab me by my neck. I quickly got flipped over and pushed to the ground.
She finds herself standing in an old unfamiliar empty room. She glances at the ceiling, noticing every ceiling title and each random square light in-between them. Then her eyes slowly focus on the pale white walls. As she scans each wall, she begins to notice the room is not empty. She soon realizes that she is standing in the middle of a hallway and staring at random unfamiliar people. Then everything becomes dark and she wakes up and goes on her day like normal. As she is going through her day, she finds herself in an unfamiliar room. She begins to study the ceiling, then the walls, and finally it dawns on her that she has been through this before. The girl has experienced déjà vu.
"It is impossible to conceive of a human creature more wholly desolate and forlorn than Eliza, when she turned her footsteps from Uncle Tom's cabin. Her husband's suffering and dangers, and the danger of her child, all blended in her mind, with a confused and stunning sense of the risk she was running, in leaving the only home she had ever known, and cutting loose from the protection of a friend whom she loved and revered. "
As a result, she met emotions she did not think existed, felt a huge hollow and felt like a walking dead. Her confused days and sleepless nights became a ritual; therefore, the only life she knows was a torturous hell
As she looked out the window she saw that the ash had started to fall. Eventually, the ash reached about one and a half feet. When she went outside she had to wear a mask because the air was toxic. It didn’t even look like earth. She felt like she was walking on the moon. Nothing looked familiar with the black ash covering everything. Home no longer looked like home. She felt lost in her own yard, the mountains behind her were covered in ash. Everything she knew was different.
She climbed up a tree, and fell out of it, realizing she can’t climb trees. She just stayed under the tree, and wondered when she was going to get out of this place. Of course, her home wasn’t perfect, and she wasn’t even staying there for any longer anyway. But, if she went back, she’d be faced with a bunch of questions, and be scolded by her mother, like she always was.
When death has once entered into a house, it almost invariably returns immediately, as if it knew the way, and the young woman, overwhelmed with grief, took to her bed and was delirious for six weeks. Then a species of calm lassitude succeeded that violent crisis, and she remained motionless, eating next to nothing, and only moving her eyes. Every time they tried to make her get up, she screamed as if they were about to kill her, and so they ended by leaving her continually in bed, and only taking her out to wash her, to change her linen, and to turn her mattress.
I entered her bedroom, where she was last sighted. A peevish odour was rising from the bed. Mist started rising, the room was surrounded with gases and it was all I remembered of the past.

As I drifted down the hallway, it seemed endless. With my stomach in my throat I walked. I could not feel my feet hitting the ground, nor notice anyone around me. I just walked. The smell of the place was intoxicating. It reminded me of insulin or disinfectant spray. I entered her room; it was dark. The sound of beeping machines echoed in my ears. I walked to her bed. She was sleeping soundly. Her body was frail and looked as if she was bone covered with skin. She was weak and tired.
She got to her feet and ran after him through the door. The room was different though, so bright that it hurt her eyes. “I’m sorry Ma’am, but we can’t get her back. She’s not responding, I’m sorry.” a woman was still weeping. A curtain hid the view of the voices, and when she tried to grab it to pull it back her hand just went through. She walked through the curtain and looked down at the bed.
She slammed the door behind her. Her face was hot as she grabbed her new perfume and flung it forcefully against the wall. That was the perfume that he had bought for her. She didn't want it anymore. His voice coaxed from the other side of the door. She shouted at him to get away. Throwing herself on the bed and covering her face with one of his shirts, she cried. His voice coaxed constantly, saying Carol, let me in. Let me explain.' She shouted out no!' Then cried some more. Time passed with each sob she made. When she caught herself, there was no sound on the other side of the door. A long silence stood between her and the door. Maybe she had been too hard on him, she thought. Maybe he really had a good explanation. She hesitated before she walked toward the door and twisted the handle. Her heart was crying out to her at this moment. He wasn't there. She called out his name. "Thomas!" Her cries were interrupted by the revving of an engine in the garage. She made it to the window in time to see his Volvo back out the yard. "Thomas! Thomas....wait!" Her cries vanished into thin air as the Volvo disappeared around the bend. Carol grew really angry all of a sudden. How could he leave? He'll sleep on the couch when he gets back. Those were her thoughts.
