American socialization is seen by sociologists as the process by which individuals learn new aspects of life and society. The individual is taught the importance of education, values, beliefs, and the behavior that is expected in an environment. As the individual becomes an adult, they start to occupy new roles and status in a society. In other words, the individual change their way of thinking and behavior. For instance, many urban cities have different cultures, languages social structures, ethnicities and hierarchies. In American society, certain individuals have wealth, prestige and power. South Gate’s population is twice as big then El Segundo’s. Statistics from the city shows that half of the people that live in the city graduate. For example, the city of South Gate has a population of 95,677, but only 52.5% of the population graduate from high school and achieves a higher education (Census, 2010). However, in the city of El Segundo, the population is about 16,924, and 96% received a high school diploma and continued their education (Census, 2010). Why does one city have more graduates than the other? Could it be because of its location or better resources? The social structure in an urban city comes from the culture and income that is given to the city. An example of where the money is distributed is schools. In El Segundo, schools have better academic performances and achievement, according to the census statistics. The results would be more programs, teachers and tutors that are available to students. Since El Segundo has a smaller population, the census statistics show more graduates than South Gate. Other examples between cities would be housing and buildings that are being built in the city. According to the census, the median household income in the city of El Segundo is $84,341 per year. In South Gate the annual wage a household makes is $42,776 per year. Since one city makes more than the other, can the income affect the next door city? For instance, in the United States, cities with wealth have better neighborhoods, jobs, and property. Does that mean that the income an individual makes determines where a person ends up? The city of El Segundo could have more power, wealth, and prestige in order to obtain higher education and a nice living urban area resident than the city of South Gate. In addition, social interaction also has an effect in the two cities. In El Segundo, many neighbors greet and communicate with each other. However, in
