First, the freezing point depression of magnesium chloride was found. To begin, an ice bath was created in a 600 mL beaker filled with ice provided in the laboratory and rock salt. Next, Four different solutions with concentrations of 0.0 g (control), 0.2 g, 0.4 g, and 0.6g of magnesium chloride and 15 mL of deionized water were created. Each solution was made in a 100 mL beaker. The solutions containing magnesium chloride were stirred with a glass rod until the salt was completely dissolved. All equipment was cleaned with deionized water to minimize cross contamination. To calculate the freezing point, a Vernier temperature probe provided in the laboratory was used. The temperature probe was plugged into the GoLink!

For many years, infertile couples have had difficulty facing the reality that they can not have children. According to Nidus Information Services Incorporated, 6.2 million women in the United States are infertile. This problem leads to many options. A few options have been used for a long period of time: the couple could adopt a child or keep trying to have a child themselves. For those couples that want to have their own children, there are new options arising. In vetro fertilization is an option that gives couples the chance to have a doctor combine the male's sperm and the woman's eggs in a petri dish and implant them into the woman's womb after the artificial conception. This may result in multiple pregnancies - more than five in some cases. This does not only occur in implantation, however. Many times the patient's doctor will ask her to consider selective reduction: aborting a few fetuses to save the ones she can. In a case of multiple pregnancy, selective reduction should be considered an option.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a complex series of procedures used to help those who want children but struggle with infertility. The process consists of extracting eggs from a woman and collecting a man’s sperm sample then manually combining them in a lab dish. Once the embryo(s) are created they are transferred to a woman’s uterus. IVF is commonly used in woman who cannot conceive on their own due to different reasonings. “These include but are not limited to blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, male factor infertility, woman with ovulation disorders, genetic disorders, woman who have had their fallopian tubes removed and unexplained infertility.” (American Pregnancy)

Moreover, people opposed clinics destroying frozen embryos because it is the owner’s property. It is the owner’s (in this case donator) decision to determine what will happen to the embryos. There are people who have emotions towards their embryos. Especially for the donator that undergoes a lot of process creating those embryos. Based on an interview, a donator said that a lot of people put emotions and effort to produce the embryos. Embryos matter because they are special for the people who donated it and it is just a personal feeling. Because of this, they don’t accept their embryos disposed.
The use of fertility treatments in recent years has been accompanied by an increase in the number of multiple births seen annually. The twin birth rate has increased by 59% since 1980, and the triplet and higher order multiples birth rate is up 423% (Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter’s, 2004). There are two main forms of assisted reproductive therapy (ART) that are used currently. These are ovulation induction using fertility drugs alone and In vitro fertilization (IVF).

The poem “Troll” by Shane Koyczan starts off like a fairy tale about trolls, but then it becomes clear to the reader that it is about something much deeper than a make-believe troll. Although the true meaning of the poem is never stated, by the end of the poem it becomes obvious that it is written about internet trolls and what they’re capable of. The purpose of this poem is to address the dangers of cyber bullies/internet trolls so that more people are educated on what can happen. Koyczan develops the comparison between internet trolls and mythological trolls through a strong use of metaphors and similes.
Before watching “Life’s Greatest Miracle,” I knew conceiving a baby is a complex and difficult process. However, I did not realize just how complex and difficult that process actually is. Conceiving a baby takes a lot more than meets the eye: it takes DNA from both genders, the right timing and so much more.
As of 1995, 20,000 babies had been born as a result of ART treatments.2 Since then, many women and couples have sought the services of IVF clinics all over the world with hopes of the miracle of conception. These people are usually ones who suffer from some sort of condition that renders them inferti...
This paper will analyze and compare two paintings, one from the Baroque period against another from the Realism period. I will analyze and compare An Old Woman Cooking Eggs by Diego Velazquez of Spain, and The Gleaners by Jean-François Millet of France. An Old Woman Cooking Eggs was painted in 1618 and The Gleaners was created in 1857. Both paintings originated in Europe but over 200 years apart, and seem to have common characteristics. They show the same realistic views of everyday lives of people but in two different time periods of culture, social and moral values (nationalgalleries.com). The Spanish piece reflects Diego Velazquez’s life experience in the streets of Seville Spain while the French portrait reveals Jean-François Millet’s life growing up in a farming community. Both painters and paintings inspired by their upbringing symbolize everyday living by depicting different types of societies and visual elements of the period as portrayed on the work, and perhaps how it was viewed by society then and how the works are viewed by our society today. The similarity between Millet and Velazquez on their subjects are common: they both liked to paint the everyday life of ordinary people or peasants. Lastly, I will identify the similarities and differences between An Old Woman Cooking Eggs and The Gleaners. For purposes of this investigative essay, I will identify at least one similarity and one difference between the two works and explain their significance.
