Household and farming chemicals can also harm our atmosphere. Crop dusting, fumigating homes, household cleaning products, painting supplies, over the counter insect or pest killers, and fertilizer dust can emit harmful chemicals into the air and causes air pollution as well. We may fall ill if we breathe in any of these products. A lot of activities that we as humans do everyday result in air pollution. But, who does it effect? Are we, as humans, safe? Air pollution is a problem for all the living. People that are active outdoors are more likely to retain air pollutants. Air pollution can cause serious health effects on the population, from an eye irritation to a possible heart attack. It also affects any trees, plants, or crops because …show more content…
If we continue to expose the air to harmful toxin, we will affect future generations and may even decrease the population in the long run. The major factors humans contribute to air pollution are small things we do on a daily basis such as driving a car or gardening/farming. Pesticides are used to kill indoor and outdoor pests which cause both indoor and outdoor air pollution. Herbicides are used to kill weeds in farms but also cause many issues in regards to air pollution. Fertilizer dust is used almost everyday, by farmers, to help plants grow. Fertilizer dust is also a factor in outdoor air pollution. When you 're going somewhere with your family, there may be traffic; every car in that traffic jam is adding pollutants to the air. This causes the air to be much more filthy and harmful to living organisms. Vehicles are the main source of carbon monoxide, the emission is a poisonious gas that often starts in your garage. Household cleaning products and painting supplies release toxic chemical in the air and cause indoor air …show more content…
Cutting down on air pollution is an important step to going green. A number of events in your lifestyle affect the enviorment. The big results come when everyone is making such a contribution. Start by saving energy around the house. The U.S Enviormental Protection Agency says the saving energy can reduce carbon emmissions. One way to help save energy would be using compact fluorescent bulbs instead of the standard lightbulbs. The less energy you use, the more green you are.. Also, we could reduce the amount of time you spend in the car. Carpool or use public transportation whenever you can. If you 're commuting a short distance, walk or even take a bike. This can save an average person $1,000 dollars per year and help to reduce air pollution. When you drive a car a short distance, think of every living thing that you are harming. Taking a bike, carpooling, or even walking are all worth it if you are trying to save the Earth and money. Air pollution is a very serious issue going on internationally. If we, as humans, can do just the smallest of things to assist, we can slowly fix our air pollution situation. Always make the green choice, and think about the Earth when making a decision. Making a small change can help our Earth continue to
Pollution is a major problem for all of us. People need to recognize this situation so we can start making a difference to this problem. In order to start making a difference, the federal government should increase gasoline tax by one dollar a gallon. Fifty percent of this dollar will go towards public transportation, since passenger cars and trucks are a major contribution towards air pollution, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, E.P.A (10/4, http://www.epa.gov/autoemissions/emsns.html). Due to the expected increase after this is put forth, the remaining fifty percent of the dollar will go towards safety on these transits. When public transportation increases, air pollution will decrease, which will lessen the harmful health risks towards the environment.
When we think of air pollution we think of the refineries in our cities and the exhaust coming from our cars mostly. In reality there are many more pollutants that we don't think about every day. The six most common air pollutants are; “Carbon monoxide, Nitrogen oxides, Sulphur oxides, Particulate matter, Volatile organic compounds, and Ground-level ozone (nitrogen oxide and Volatile organic compounds reaction)”(David Suzuki Foundation). The fact is people are dying from air pollution and we are doing nothing to make it better, in fact air pollution is getting worse.
The entire world contributes to the carbon emissions but there are ways we can use less gases to help decrease the amount we use. One way is carpooling. Carpooling can help decrease the amount of carbon emissions we make by having less cars on the road to make carbon emissions. Carpooling also saves you money. Other ways are using alternative fuel sources. Some alternative fuel sources are biodiesel, ethanol, hydrogen etc. There are also cars that use other things like electricity or less fuel. These can be cheaper than just petroleum and less harmful to the environment. “HEVs [hybrid electric vehicle] typically achieve better fuel economy and have lower fuel costs than similar conventional vehicles. For example, the 2016 Honda Civic Hybrid has an EPA combined city-and-highway fuel economy estimate of 45 miles per gallon, while the estimate for the conventional 2015 Civic (four cylinder, automatic) is 35 miles per gallon” afdc. In this day and age we are getting better at carbon emissions and fuel usage but we have a long way to go to achieve almost no carbon emissions, if that will ever
Air pollution is known to affect human and animal life. Plants are also affected indirectly as air pollution is known to cause acid rain, an even deeper detriment to plant life than most. Lung related diseases are among the most important features that the world have come
There are many kinds of air pollution. The ones I want to talk about are the ozone, acid rain, carbon monoxide and toxic air contaminants. Ozone is formed when hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide react in sunlight. Therefore, ozone is at its peak during hot summer days. Exposure to high levels of ozone can have serious consequences on your health. It can cause respiratory disease, loss of pulmonary elasticity, and premature aging of our lungs. Next, is acid rain, which occurs in the atmosphere in the form of sulfur and nitrogen oxide. These pollutants can have serious damaging affects on aquatic, forest and wildlife ecosystems, as well as deterioration of buildings. Carbon monoxide is another form of pollution. It reduces the blood?s ability to carry oxygen. If a human is exposed to higher levels, it can cause chest pains, angina attacks or even death.
Relevance: Air pollution is something that everyone should be concern, especially if we’re advancing a lot in technology, especially in vehicles and the importance of our air or the environment.
Today, people use their own personal vehicles to travel more than ever before. Personal transportation is no longer considered a luxury; it is now considered a necessity. The number of cars in the United States has been growing steadily since the 1970s. The number of miles traveled by cars has risen nearly 150 percent, yet the United States population has only grown roughly 40 percent during that time (hybridcars.com, Driving Trends). Although it may seem like we are advancing into the future, in reality, we are moving backwards from the effects these vehicles have on our bodies and the environment. The pollution produced by these vehicles has brought us to the day where we must find other modes of transportation that cause less harm to the world in which we live. Advances in technology have developed hybrid vehicles to try and slow down the amount of pollution. Driving a hybrid vehicle, instead of a conventional gas powered vehicle, can reduce the amount of pollution that affects our lives and the environment around us.
Air pollution is caused by many things such as car fumes, burning of fossil fuels,
Car pollutants cause immediate and long-term effects on the environment. Car exhausts emit a wide range of gases and solid matter, causing global warming, acid rain, and harming the environment and human health. Engine noise and fuel spills also cause pollution. Cars, trucks and other forms of transportation are the single largest contributor to air pollution in the United States, but car owners can reduce their vehicle's effects on the environment. Car pollution is one of the major causes of global warming. Cars and trucks emit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, which contribute one-fifth of the United States' total global warming pollution. Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, which causes worldwide temperatures to rise.
Not only are human beings affected but also animals and plants. Air pollution might be most noticeable around our congested towns but the thin layer of air that envelops the Earth is polluted at several balances. It is contaminated indoors, locally, regionally, and globally. Smog sagging over cities is the most familiar and obvious form of air pollution. But there are different kinds of pollution some noticeable, some invisible that contribute to global warming. Normally some element that people present into the atmosphere that has harmful effects on humans and animals and the environment is known as air pollution.(Sarah
Contamination of Water and Air. Urbanization enhances the proliferation of industries, automobiles, and agricultural practices. Most toxic air contaminants are produced as we endeavor to fuel our homes, automobiles, factories, energy production facilities, and might also be discovered in indoor cleansing mixtures, and construction supplies. Furthermore, pollutants found in gasoline, dry cleaning services, and paint thinners and strippers; some concentrations are presumed to cause cancers, or elevate other serious health risks. As a consequence these noxious air contaminants can be deposited in soils and water sources allowing them to be taken in by plants or swallowed by animals....
Air pollution according to the Wikipedia << is the introduction of particulates, biological materials, or other harmful materials into the Earth’s atmosphere, possibly causing disease, death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as food crops, or the natural or built environment>>. Therefore, human being should be aware of the facts that the environment and all living creatures are dying. They need to understand the importance of natural items, the nature, etc…
Air Pollution is when a poisonous or a harmful substance is released in the air. There are many form of pollution but air is one of them, it only occurs when dust, harmful gases or smoke enters into the atmosphere and makes it hard for species like plants, animals and humans to live in a difficult situation because of the dirty air.Air Pollution is classified in two sections, invisible air pollution and visible air pollution.. Hence any substance that makes it difficult for the living things that need the atmosphere is air pollution.Humans have been undergoing air pollution ever since the industrial revolution. In order to understand the causes of Air pollution, it is divided into divisions. Primary air pollutants and secondary air pollutants:
Every other day a new industries are being set up, new vehicles on roads and trees are being cut to make way for new homes. All of them, indirect way lead to increase in CO2 leads to melting of polar ice caps which increase the sea level and pose danger for the people living near coastal areas. Pollution can have an impact in our health not only affects people with impaired respiratory system such as asthmatics, but very healthy adults and children too. Exposure to pollution for 6 to 7 hours, even at relatively low concentrations, reduces lung function and induces respiratory inflammation and, healthy people during periods of moderate
Air pollution is a type of pollution that can severely damage our environment as well as the earth’s atmosphere. Air pollution occurs all the time when the air contains many substances ...
