OptumRx Learning Services is dedicated to providing optimal training to our clients. The tremendous effort dedicated to achieving our mission is proven with a successful record of accomplishment including nearly 26,000 training hours annually. As the demand to provide optimal training increases, so does the need to expand our training resources and workforce. We introduce to you the Principles of Effective Training (POET) program. The Principles of Effective Training program prepares OptumRx employees to assist Learning Services with training classes. Whether they are working with one of our Delivery Specialists or leading their own learning experiences, our POETs (Delivery Assistant or Certified Facilitator) play an important role in staff development. The POET-Delivery Assistant provides support to the training environment in different ways including organizing activities, conducting review sessions, and co-facilitating the class. Qualified applicants must complete an application and write an essay describing their passion for training. Applications are carefully reviewed by members of OptumRx Learning Services and, once selected, are invited to interview for the position. Once interviewed, selected candidates are invited to attend the two-day course to learn how to be a POET-Delivery Assistant. During the course, participants acquire the necessary skills to assist in the facilitation of a class in addition to receiving / providing feedback and performing administrative duties. The most important knowledge imparted to participants relates to adult learning methods. Participants learn how to convey materials to learners and assess learner retention to achieve maximum performance
As a learning provider it is essential that I have the ability to meet the requirements of someone who is deemed as a learner. Many of us know that people are different and receive information in several different ways. It is also ideal to become aware of what motivates a learner to understand the information which is being delivered to them in the classroom. As learning providers we cannot make the assumption that everybody learns in the same way because if that were the case we would soon find that the learners will only have the ability to remember certain parts of the information that they most relate to. This would result in the learners being unsuccessful in the class room. For example the VARK method from Neil Flemings (1987) theory, this shows that learners can take information in, in different ways.
Each one in the group had different interpretation of the readings that challenged and helped me to grow. I learned that the world is very diverse. A poem written by Jan Beatty "Saving the Crippled Boy", was a challenging poem for me and my colleagues. It helped me to learn to be non judgmental. It portrayed the word "saving" in unfamiliar way to me. I questioned about the appropriate way of charity. According to my values and belief, giving my body to someone is not charity or service. My transition into the nursing profession was a major achievement for I am able to use my acquired skills to contribute to the community. There are many areas for potential failure in the learner-centered classroom. Doyle states that student resistance is the biggest obstacle to overcome. The student often doesn’t understand the concept and is not receptive to it. The greatest way to deal with this potential failure is to explain the ‘why’ to the students. Students that understand why they are to do a task and understand how to apply it are more likely to overcome it.

In order to be an effective teacher there needs to be an understanding that we all learn differently, this means that no single teaching strategy is effective for all students/learners all the time. This makes teaching a complex process because you need to understand and meet the requirements of all of your learners. Students learn best when they aren’t asked to simply memorise information but when they form their own understandings of what is being taught. When a student has successfully learnt a new idea they are able to then intergrate this information with their previously learnt information and make sense of it. To be an effective teacher you need to work jointly with students to asses where they are at, be able to give feedback on how the student is going and ensure that they are understanding the lesson (Killen, 2013) According to Lovat and Smith (2003) students learning must result in a change in a student’s understanding of the information being taught. In order to show understanding they must be able to share this information with others and want to learn more (Killen, 2013). In order to have a deeper understanding of what is being taught they need to be aware of the relationship that exists between what they knew previously and the new information that is being learned (Killen, 2013).. Students need to be given goals that they can achieve in order to feel a sense of mastery over their own learning, this gives students motivation that they are able to complete tasks and to keep going.
Aim: How to provide best clinical training is a major issue in nursing education in the face of reduced hours for practical learning and the difficulty of skills acquisition, and educators are still looking for an effective training education methodology. In order to develop an effective training education, this paper reviews the training instruction situation of a colleague, as well as considers what methods could be used for future training instruction. Methods: As the responsible instructor overseeing the three-year Basic Nursing Practice Training, I trained five students and observed instructors by taking field notes.
