Effect Of Temperature On Rate Of Reaction PLAN: In this investigation I will find out the effect of temperature on rate of reaction. To do this I will put a piece of paper with an "X" marked on it under a chronicle flask and carry out the reaction of with Hydrochloric Acid with the concentration of 2M and Sodium Thiosulphate solution and observe how long it takes for the reaction to finish. I will repeat this with different temperatures. Apparatus: * Timer * 50g dm-3 Sodium Thiosulphate solution (Na2S2O3) * 2M Hydrochloric Acid * Conical flask * Thermometer * Bunsen burner * Heat proof mat * Wire gauze * White tile * Filter paper * A pair of Tongs Diagram: [IMAGE] Method: 1) Set up all the apparatus needed (as shown on the previous page) e.g. measuring cylinder, timer etc. Put a piece of paper with an "X" marked on it under the conical flask. . 2) Measure out 40cm3 of water, 10cm3 of Sodium Thiosulphate solution, and 5cm3 of Hydrochloric Acid 3) Pour the water and in the conical flask, (this ensures that the Sodium Thiosulphate solution is the right concentration). 4) Measure the temperature of the solution in the conical flask. 5) Then pour the Hydrochloric acid in the conical flask and start the timer. 6) Look from the top of the conical flask and wait for the "X" on the paper under the conical flask to disappear, once it has disappeared stop the timer and note the time it for the reaction to finish. Repeat this experiment but change the temperature of the mixture of water and Thiosulphate solution before pouring in the acid. NOTE: Make sure that you check the temperature before your pour the Hydrochloric acid in the conical flask; heating the solution to 50Ëš C
