Ecoplan Paper In my day to day life I have several habits that would be considered harmful to the environment. Throughout this paper I will discuss some of these habits and ways to fix them. The bad habits I have chosen to discuss are; leaving my phone charger plugged into the wall, purposely taking the long way home from work, always choosing to drink bottled water over tap, and using plastic bags at the market and falling asleep with the television on. I am going to discuss how each of these has a bad impact to the environment and how I can help reduce the damage done by these bad habits. The first habit I am going to talk about is the leaving my phone charger plugged into a wall even though no phone is charging on it. This is bad for the environment because it is wasting electricity. Even though there is only about .5 to 2 watts being wasted it is still something that could be prevented. Unplugging the charger will also save you 10-15 cents on your next electricity bill. So the issue with this habit is that it is wasting electricity, costing me money and it can also be a fire hazard. To fix this issue I just have to remember to unplug my phone charger after my phone is charged. To help me remember this I am going to always charge my phone next to the outlet that way when I go to unplug my phone I can just unplug the whole thing all at once. My drive home from work on a normal day is roughly 13 miles long, but my drive home when I decide to go the long way is roughly 23 miles long. The vehicle I drive is a 2007 Rav4, it gets approximately 19 miles to the gallon, meaning that when I take the long way home I am Strycharz 2 using just about a half-gallon more than I would normally. The reason I want to stop this bad habit is ... ... middle of paper ... ...t when I fall asleep with the television on I am wasting electricity and causing more pollution to the environment due to the wasting of energy. Also it is bad because it costs you an average of 6 dollars more a month on electricity. To change this habit I could try sleeping with the television off or even use the hibernation option on the television. To fix this issue I will most likely just always put the hibernation option on every time I watch television right before I go to bed. This way if I fall asleep the television will still shut off after the amount of time set runs out. To make this fix I will see if my television has the hibernation option. Most of today’s televisions do have an option which allows you to choose when the television will turn off. Allowing me to save 6 dollars a month on my electricity bill and also help save on the United States energy.
