Council for the Build Environment (Act 43 of 2000) The CBE (Council for the Build Environmment) is established as an mandated body over the Build Enironment profession councils which includes Architectural, Engineering, Landscape Architectural, Quantity surveying, Project and Construction Management aswell as Porperty valuers. Their vision is to have an environment built to meet peoples needs and aspirations. They want to reach this goal by implementing projects and programmes that address built environment issues, and add value to the built environment professions, government and the general public. Twenty members was appointed by the minister of Public Works and the CBE was launched and had its first meeting on the 8th of April in the year 2000. In November 2000 the CBE was passed by parlament along with the suites of Acts controling the six Build Environment professions. In September 2001 the Act beame opperational and the six Build Environment profession councils was esstablished. Before that it was called the South African Council for Architects established by Act 35 of 1970 on the 1st of March 1971.At that time only architects could register, but now professional architects, senior architectural technologists, architectural technologists and ... ... middle of paper ... ...e is currenly.Other countries like the USA and the UK has ± 1 engineer for every 310 people and in South Africa there is only 1 for every 3100 people. There for they should create more educational institutions in order to get more qualified engineers. The South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) The SAIA is a voluntary association of the architectural profession. They work together with regional institutes and together they want to maintain a high standard of professionalism, integrity and compenece. The members of the constitution strive to improve the standards of health and safety for the protection and welfare of the society. Members which is qualified architects take lead and act as mentors within the voluntary association of the architectural profession. This allow other members to gain knowledge and in that way professionalism can be maintained.
As agreed by the States, the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) was created in 1991 to evolve the BCA, so as to make the BCA more performance based. As stated in (Reference 1) the introduction of performance “…allows more flexibility and innovation in building design and construction… For the designer or builder…”
Sam Ridgway in The Representation of Construction emphasizes the role of representation in architecture stating, “The world of architecture is a world of representation” (268). He continues writing, “Architects do not build buildings; they represent them, mainly through drawings, models, words and numbers. In turn, buildings are also interpretations or representation of these mediating instruments and artifacts that precede their construction” (268). It is through realizing that representational tools are “value laden” that contemporary architects may move forward from the “ideological stagnation plaguing most architectural creation” (269). Comparing the preceding eras to the contemporary era, “there is an inverse relationship

Ashlee Doyon Second Response Paper (Redo) Environmental Identity What is environmental identity? "Environmental identity, is how one views oneself in relation to the natural world. Environmental identity is part of the way in which one forms his/her self-concept and a sense of connection to some part of the nonhuman natural environment, based on personal history, emotional attachment, and/or similarity.

One of the benefits of choosing a career in architecture is that there are plenty of employment opportunities for architects, not just in America, but all around the world. Today, there are 2,356,530 architectural careers in the America alone. There are many different archit...
People don’t want to have a complicated way of life, they want to be simplistic and still be looking after then environment. My goal is to therefore create sustainable living but on a very simplistic bases because more often, people like to do as title as possible. In 2015 it is very important to go green, even though scientists are looking for new planets to move to, it is still very important to look after the planet that we live on now. The architecture community is aware of the importance of greener living. SANS 10400 Part X and Part XA is a SABS document that are responsible for the requirements of environmental sustainability and energy usage in a building. The document then ha tables that a building needs to comply with such as, Maximum annual consumption per building classification for each climate zone . These documents are important for creating greener buildings but they are not enough, documents such as SANS are not enough, for example electricity, the world is running out of non-renewable resources. Unrenewable resources such as coal but places such as South Africa are still running and building more coal power stations or are looking into creating Nuclear Power stations instead of infesting more into wind turbines for power. Problems like this need to be fixed not just in the county but in the homes people live in and the buildings people work in,
With the help of architectural engineers, our world has become very civilized and advanced over the past decades. Like all other engineers, architectural engineers use logic and creativity to solve problems. They come up with effective designs to assist people in their everyday tasks. In our daily lives we are surrounded by buildings. Places that were once a dessert are turned into cities that now hold amazing buildings. Houses, schools, shopping centers, offices, apartments, airports, etc. are very essential in our society. These buildings do not only please the eye, but they also provide us with shelter and are made to withstand hurricanes, earthquakes, snow storms, and strong winds. Would these buildings still function efficiently and provide us with a stable shelter if it were not for architectural engineers? There are different engineers with each their own expertise, but for buildings in particular, architectural engineers are needed. Architectural engineering, also known as building engineering, is an interdisciplinary program that integrates important knowledge from different disciplines such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering , architecture, physics, chemistry, biology, and economics (“Building Engineering”). An architectural engineering professional has to master all the different disciplines because the design of building systems often requires the application of the disciplines. Architectural engineers are important in today’s society because they possess the knowledge and qualifications to work on complex buildings, lead project teams, and most importantly, to provide us with a safe environment.
The environment and health are very closely linked. The environment in which we inhabit and go about our daily lives, directly impacts on our physical, mental and social well-being. There are biological, chemical and physical factors that can affect human health in a physical and mental way. The World Health Organisation states that "health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity" (WHO 1948), meaning that although many factors relating to health are associated with environmental pollution, they can also be caused by the environment in which we work and live in. The relationship between the environment and health, can however be quite complex. Human health is not only as a result of air, water and ground pollution, but also things such as food, genetics, life style and quality, which directly affect human susceptibility to illness, disease and possibly death. Disruptions to the environment, such as substance dispersal, climate change, acidification, ground pollution, photochemical air pollution and over fertilisation can also impact on human health. Therefore, there are direct and indirect links to the environment and health issues.

The branches of architecture are civil, sacred, naval, military, and landscape architecture. The history of architecture traces the changes in architecture through various traditions, regions, overarching stylistic trends, and dates. Architecture is a form of art as well as a science. It is an art because it is a way to express your creativity. With architecture being a form of art it is an outlet for creativity and a way to express your views on society. There is one architect per 2,000 head of population. However, only 20% of buildings are actually built by architects. This means we are in need of more architects!
There are lots of environmental issues going on globally. The earth faces problems such as pollution, global warming, waste disposal, and loss of biodiversity. These are just a small amount of issues out of the so many. These environmental problems pose an abundant amount of risk to the health of humans and animals. There needs to be a solution to all these problems and that is by informing others, so that way everyone can make the environment a better place.
