With the help of architectural engineers, our world has become very civilized and advanced over the past decades. Like all other engineers, architectural engineers use logic and creativity to solve problems. They come up with effective designs to assist people in their everyday tasks. In our daily lives we are surrounded by buildings. Places that were once a dessert are turned into cities that now hold amazing buildings. Houses, schools, shopping centers, offices, apartments, airports, etc. are very essential in our society. These buildings do not only please the eye, but they also provide us with shelter and are made to withstand hurricanes, earthquakes, snow storms, and strong winds. Would these buildings still function efficiently and provide us with a stable shelter if it were not for architectural engineers? There are different engineers with each their own expertise, but for buildings in particular, architectural engineers are needed. Architectural engineering, also known as building engineering, is an interdisciplinary program that integrates important knowledge from different disciplines such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering , architecture, physics, chemistry, biology, and economics (“Building Engineering”). An architectural engineering professional has to master all the different disciplines because the design of building systems often requires the application of the disciplines. Architectural engineers are important in today’s society because they possess the knowledge and qualifications to work on complex buildings, lead project teams, and most importantly, to provide us with a safe environment.

Want to become a great architect? This research paper will tell you the steps and credentials to becoming one. Being an architect is not as easy as it looks. Many people are interested in becoming an architect because it’s something they want to be, and being an architect could be a good source or money for anyone trying to do something with theirselves. This paper will inform you on the history of architecture, the requirements it takes to become one, and the outlook of this field.

Architecture is the concept of bringing structure, materiality, form and space together as a whole, provide people with enclosed atmosphere to experience. Considering this, it is important to identify that materiality and the purpose of details has been a key methodology to bringing architectural intentions into the design in an affective manner, more over producing an architectural expression. However, this position is rather declining in architecture, reducing tectonics and materiality to being secondary to form and space. With the start of modernism, the attempt to achieve minimalistic style has caused detailing to increasingly develop into a decorative aspect of a building, neglecting its individual contribution to architecture.
Architectural drafting plays a big role in our lives. It is the process by which all architectural things around us are made. Drafting the builds before hand in their entirety makes it so you can make sure that you are following all the rules that go along with architecture, say you didn’t draft a building you were going to make and on the construction you decide to make a bedroom with only one access. If there was a fire and you were in that room and that fire spread to your room you would have nowhere to go, and firefighters would not be able to reach you. That would not be a very safe room. You should have had more ways to escape the fire, such as a window. That window would have to be large enough for you to get through of course. Or what if you accidentally built a building that was not structurally sound and it just collapsed. That would not be safe at all. Architectural drafting can prevent this. Obviously architectural drafting goes pretty far back or we would have heard of many buildings collapsing and such.
All in all architects are referred as sort of authors of buildings. They create scenarios for life itself. Even when it comes to the design process an architect places a scenario or a character to develop the design further. As stated by Neutelings Riedijk Architects, “Spaces in a building relate to each other like scenes in a theatrical performance”. Architecture is the telling of a story. The buildings itself are the backdrop of in which life is represented.
With the interaction between the development of computational approaches in architecture and the contemporary forms of spatial design intelligence, some new architectural design theories emerged to make differences between architects and control designing processes. These theories are almost employed in all designing realms, from architecture to urban design to provide fields of ideas and solutions that privilege by complexity. Most of these theories are oriented to relay on understanding and using computational methods to generate exotic and complex geometries. In this respect, three of these theories will discussed and tested against three buildings. The theories are: parametric design, genetic architecture and emergence, which characterize some of the contemporary architectural design approaches.
Buildings reflect the values and ideas of society within periods. The role of architecture in shaping society and vice versa largely depends on the period in question and who or what affects first. The Enlightenment, and the subsequent period the Post-Enlightenment, reflect the biggest change for current ideas regarding architecture and society and current theories. At the same time, individual identities and understanding of society, progress and truth all follow a similar evolving path. It is during this dramatic shift in thinking that the role of architecture to society and the idea of progress and truth becomes a more complex relationship. How this relationship works and its implications is based on the theory that there is a direct link between the two. One cannot develop without the other. Who leads whom and to what extent they influence each other is evident in architectural trends and pioneering works by architects such as Robert Venturi, Frank Gehry amongst others.
After high school, many kids struggle with what they want to be in the future. Rather it be to go to college or maybe even work in the real word right away, it still is an important decision that can affect someone's life entirely. If the person decides to go to college what will they major in, what study habits will they use. Architectural design sticks out as one of the wonderful majors there is to take in college. A degree like this is hard to come by especially when college dropout rates are high and the classes are difficult. Also, the certification test, an internship, and the different people architects work with makes the job harder after school. Sure the money is good but the job is no joke. The civil engineering field is about gathering and interpreting data, being able to give technical presentations to colleagues, team work to design and build a project, projects range from the design and construction of dams, bridges, buildings, roads, and water supply systems. In most cases the works of engineers are admired and sought after. Engineers play an important role in the development and improvement of a society. Yet, like other technical and non-engineering careers the civil engineers also face issues, for example, regarding ethics, high energy building consumption, increased soil and coastal erosion, inadequate water quality, traffic congestion, and some poor infrastructures resilience to disasters. Another example is that unfortunately in the United Kingdom, the civil engineering industry is highly fragmented with 93% of companies having 14 or fewer employees which is not always a great idea, as written by John Miles in Civil Engineering Informatics. There is also a need to implement new professional and educational approaches to new challenges and new implications that are needed for the twenty-first century society. This paper will introduce and explain five different issues that civil engineers are currently facing and elaborate about how these challenges interrelate to each other.
The industry I would like to be a part of is the architecture industry. I have made this choice because, unlike most jobs, an architect’s job is constantly evolving. Although architecture is similar to art, there are various other aspects to consider, such as programing and building technology. Building materials and technology are always becoming more advanced, and it is the architect’s responsibility to make sure that the concepts that they are formulating efficiently make use of the material available. The architecture industry intrigues me because it is one of the few professions that are never at a standstill.

A recent study conducted by Building Futures in association with RIBA surveyed the various demographics of the construction industry to establish their thoughts and opinions in regards to the state of architectural profession today, and in the future. The document identifies the concern that conventional building design is shifting from the architects to the various sub-contractors for a multitude of reasons [Jamieson, 2010: 12]. Their work is the link between scientific discoveries and commercial applications. Engineers design products, machinery to build those products, factories in which those products are made, and the systems that ensure the quality of the product and efficiency of the workforce and manufacturing process. Engineers design, plan, and supervise the construction of buildings, highways, and transit systems. They develop new materials that both improve the performance of products and help implement advances in technology. Engineering knowledge is applied to improving many things, including the quality of health care, the safety of food products, and the efficient operation of financial systems.
