In Easter Lilies by Lee Krasner, there are a lot of elements of impressionism in this painting. The loose brushstrokes of the painting represent the effects of light and color. This is a reminder of Impressionist techniques. However, while there are many Impressionist references, Krasner’s overall style also resembles Post-Impressionism, with emphasis on structure and more profound emotion showcased in the work. The symbolism and themes of Easter Lilies center on rebirth and renewal. The lilies themselves represent this state of being. The colors in this painting and the play of light invoke a feeling of hope and cheer. This aligns with the themes of Easter as a season and the idea of new beginnings and rising again. The focal point of the painting are the figures that look like letters and numbers that are in the front of the piece of art. This is where your eyes expend more time, also sometimes forgiving the background. The way the artist is trying to present this piece is showing happiness, excitement, and dreams. Happiness because he transmits with the bright colours. After probably 15 minutes on front of the painting I can feel that the artist tries to show his happiness, but in serene calm. The excitement that he presents with the letters, numbers and figures is a signal that he feels anxious about what the future is going to bring. Painters paint what they feel. Whether it is at that very moment, or how they have felt for the past five years - an artist’s work is always about how they feel. That is why anyone can tell all there is to know about Krasner and Pollock’s relationship just by viewing their artwork. One reason why I chose them is because I heard a joke about Jackson Pollock in my favorite TV show, Archer. Another reason is that one of his paintings, “One: Number 31,” looks to me like the Vatican’s “Thrown of Satan.” The foremost reason why I chose this couple is that their mutual attractiveness matches, making for a pleasant picture. Although Jackson and Lee’s relationship was charming on the surface, it was volatile. The nature of this might have helped Pollock’s work elevate, but it definitely affected Krasner’s work negatively.
I found The Raising of Lazarus and Annunciation to be interesting pieces on their own as well as to be compared. At face value, these paintings do not appear to contain many contrasting features. However, by examining these paintings closely, one can conclude that paintings with similar themes, mediums, and time periods can still differ in countless ways. Light, medium, subject, color, space, and viewpoint are just a few of the characteristics that can be considered when analyzing Wtewael and Caliari’s works. It is imperative that observers of art take a deeper look into the different features of artwork in attempt to uncover the intentions of the artist.

In the early 16th century the Netherlands experienced what was called “tulip mania” this was the beginning of the nations love for flora and foliage (Taylor 13). The result of this impressive flower invasion was a society that took a historical turn from which the results still remain today. Flower merchants, botanists and floral still life artists, were occupations that were an accurate reflection of the Netherlands demands (Brown). An interesting example of a life that was effected by, and devoted to the archiving of the flower craze was Rachel Ruysch (1664-1750) the 17th century Dutch flower painter. Rachel Ruyschs’ career straddled the 17th and 18th century, and her stunningly accurate floral pieces reflect the maturing, yet evolving art of floral still life painting (“Rachel Ruysch: Bibliography”). Ruyschs’ Still Life with Flowers on a Marble Tabletop (1716) is an excellent example of a painting that appropriately represents the genre of art that was created solely through specific societal events.
Evidence of both Naturalism and Impressionism exists within Golden Summer. Although the Heidelberg artists are often termed ‘Australian Impressionists’, and it is true that the artists worked en plein air to create a faithful record of the colour and light effects of the local landscape, the composition is quite clearly focused on rural life. Golden Summer is quite clearly structured as a panoramic Australian idyll, and it retains a greater sense of form than more radical works by French Impressionists.
Jackson Pollock was an American abstract artist born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912. He was the youngest of his five brothers. Even though he was born on a farm, he never milked a cow and he was terrified of horses because he grew up in California. He dropped out of high school at the age of seventeen and proceeded to move to New York City with his older brother, Charles, and studied with Thomas Hart Benton at the Art Students League. Thomas Benton was already a great artist at the time in which Pollock studied with him. Benton acted like the father figure in Pollock’s life to replace the original that wasn’t there. Benton was known for his large murals that appear on ceilings or walls. “Jack was a rebellious sort at all times,” recalls his classmate and friend, artist Harold Lehman. He grew his hair long and helped pen a manifesto denouncing athletics, even though “he had a muscular build and the school wanted to put him on the football team,” says former teacher Doug Lemon. Pollock always was upset with himself in his studies because he had troubles drawing things like they were supposed to look. From 1938 to 1942, Jackson joined a Mexican workshop of people with a painter named David Siqueiros. This workshop painted the murals for the WPA Federal Art Projects. This new group of people started experimenting with new types of paint and new ways of applying it to large canvas. People say that this time period was when Jackson was stimulated with ideas from looking at the Mexican or WPA murals. Looking at paintings from Picasso and the surrealists also inspired Jackson at this time. The type of paint they used was mixing oil colors with paint used for painting cars. Jackson noticed that the shapes and colors they created were just as beautiful as anything else was. Jackson realized that you didn’t have to be able to draw perfect to make beautiful paintings. Jackson started developing a whole new way of painting that he had never tried before and his paintings were starting to look totally different from before.
Pollock uses different aspects of writing to back up her thesis and to emphasis that there is more to the subject the artist use in their creation. By using a variety of resources and counter-arguing them, she is backing up her own thesis and proving that there is a stereotype in art history where art historians do not explain past the artistic influence thus does not fully explain an artist or their artworks. She makes a point that because of this, there has to be changes to art practices today in order to fully understand the meaning behind artworks.

Through his “choreographed” letters, Massoudy gives physical form to emotions and ideas. For example, in his work “I love a flower that is slow to blossom,” (See Figure 2) he shapes the word “flower” with curves that resemble petals. The word “flower” is repeatedly written in green ink to form a leaf, or a garden speckled with red and yellow flowers. The quote written out in a straight line evokes the image of a stem.
Similar to many of the van Gogh’s paintings completed close to the end of his life, Vincent van Gogh's Wheat Field with Crows is a representational painting depicting nature around him. This piece is showing the wheat fields surrounding the graveyard of the Church in Auvers-sur-Oise - the graveyard where both van Gogh and his brother, Theo, were buried. I have chosen to critique the art masterpiece, Autumn Rhythm. Autumn Rhythm is oil on canvas, 8' 9" x 17' 3." It is my opinion, before you can critique Autumn Rhythm; you must try to understand the artist and his/her background. Artist Jackson Pollock was from a working class family who lived and worked in Wyoming, Arizona, and southern California. He studied at two different art schools; Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles and the Art Student's League in New York, he also studied with several other great artists during his time. However the artist experienced some dark days in his life. The artist fought the demon of alcoholism, and came face to face with his addiction. Stepping forward into the unknown, Pollock allowed his parents to place him in Jungian therapy. "Jungian therapy is centered on its helpful, hopeful and unique ways of experiencing the human mind. With due consideration of religion and the spirit of individuals, it also embraces the collective history of humanity. With its emphasis on individuation, wholeness and centering, there is a focus on the healthy elements of the human mind and soul and a search for balance. Pollock did not want to converse with his therapist about his problems and addictions, so his therapist suggested that he paint a piece of art that expressed his unspoken thoughts and feelings, (psychology of Carl G. This is expressed through the artists expression of the elderly woman 's haggard appearance. The exhausted expression in her face, how her attire is worn and hanging off her, the baskets she is carrying that clearly are almost dragging on the ground, and her poor posture. This elderly woman was of good socioeconomic status due to the ivy in her hair and her attire. Although despite her status and the fact that she was elderly she was haggard from a long day of working at the market place. The chickens and fruit represent life as it once was, from a more simpler time. The fact that she had to work in the marketplace to earn money was an indication of the changing times and desire for
