Children twelve to fifteen months old are exploring the world through deliberate trial and error (lecture notes). By twelve months of age, most children walk fairly well on their own (lecture notes). The toy that is optimal for a child in this age group is a toy that develops hand eye coordination and also helps the child learn how objects that are similar go together such as blocks. The toy I created will help further the development of social and emotional, cognitive: sensation and perception, and also physical development. My toy design promotes physical play and manipulative play. The child can move the toy by pushing and pulling it which is essential for normal physical development and they can move the objects such as shapes, turn the rattle, and press buttons that make noise and move the pieces and better understand how they work. …show more content…

By playing with the toy they will develop their gross motor skills. Gross motor skills are larger movements the child makes with his/her appendages. Using large muscles, they will be able to move the toy and around the toy to get to the section of the toy they desire. By moving around and through obstacles the child will be able to discover new things about the environment. The child will be able to use the handles on the both sides of the toy to pull up to stand, push, and pull the toy in their desired direction. The design of the toy will elicit the child to reach and grab for what they want. Also, by playing with the attachments, the child will hone in on their fine motor skills. Fine Motor skills are movements of small appendages such as fingers. Using small muscles, they will further develop things such as the pincer grasp to pick up the detachable shapes and place them in the correct holes. The child will also be able to use their hands to turn the rattle and press the buttons to make the animal
