As a new school year starts, parents who have sent their child to preschool or another program feels like their child is prepared to begin kindergarten. Going to kindergarten is an important and exciting time for parents and their children. Students’ can feel excite, worried, confused, and other different emotions. Often times they refer to this school as the “big boy or girl school.” Teachers and parents want the children to be ready for this fun and exciting time in the child’s life. Some children may go to pre-school in the same building that they will be attending kindergarten and others may have to make a transition from another building.

The main focus for this study is, to focus on the challenges of preschoolers transiting from the early childhood education setting to the local elementary school setting. The study will add to the current studies that include toolkits and materials that will help parents and teachers implement different strategies to facilitate the process of a child entering an elementary school program. This will also help to enhance a child’s transition to kindergarten. This information will not be beneficial to only the parent, but also to school administrators, early childhood teachers, child care providers, kindergarten teachers, parents, and guardians. If all the people who work with children are informed then it will help to make sure each person is on the right track with making sure the child is able to make the transition from their previous program to the elementary school setting. Studies have proven that kids experience anxiety on the first day of kindergarten, but are this because they are not prepared of just anxiety of beginning a new journey in life. There are several ways to create a quality transition method for students entering kindergarten. With this study it shows how to add to improve upon the things that have already been created to make for a quality transition into an elementary school program.
