A. What I learned about the unique instructional needs of this specific age: From this experiences I discovered that first graders have a lot of energy but when they are interested in what they are learning they can focus. I also learned that social studies is a very important content area for this age range since it helps them learn about the world they live in and make sense of the things they see in the everyday world. I also learned that students in 1st grade need a lot more support and reassurance when they are learning. This is due to the fact that they are still learning how school works. 1st graders also ask for a lot of reinsurance when they are learning. They are constantly asking if they are doing everything right or if their ideas are correct. This makes it more difficult for students to have their own ideas since they think there is only one possible answer. Overall, I learned that 1st graders need interactive and engaging lessons as well as being reassured during their learning. B. This was proven to me by watching Miss. Shield incorporating social studies in areas that I never thought of prior, such as incorporating it during morning meeting. One thing I realized that I will still have to learn to be successful when integrating and just teaching social studies is learning interactive ways of how to teach social studies. I also realized that I will have to do a lot of learning myself to teach social studies since some of the concepts are not completely clear to me since I have not learned about them in so long. Overall, from this observation it was proven to me that teaching social studies takes a lot more planning and a lot of creativity, both of these are something that with time I believe I will become very successful
