Parents of children with dyslexia must be aware that this can worse over a period of time if there is no action been taken. Dyslexia is a type of a disorder that can’t be cured but it can be worked on to the level where is hardly noticeable for other people. Parents must be watching child’s progress from the early years. Parents have to encourage a child to take part in activities appropriate for child’s age – this can be the best they could do for their child. I think also that the parents shouldn’t be telling the child that he or she has dyslexia as it can lower their self-esteem or even put them off trying harder to tackle this problem . Parents shouldn’t take this as a problem or something to be ashamed of because it is not .

As they move through classes , problems with reading might get worse for them as reading becomes more important to learning. Children who have difficulty with reading shouldn’t be reading too long stories ,they should be only reading short stories so they can practice their reading and as they get better then they can progress to more complicated longer stories. It is important that child is supported all the way through this process so their self-esteem won’t get low due to problems with reading.

The person who is responsible for ensuring that persons with disabilities or special needs can avail of support services according to the Education Act (1998) is the minister for education and Skills. The support services that the minister can provide for schools and for students with special educational needs and their parents include:
- assessment, to tell exactly the level of disability and what are the needs provided for the children with that disability
- adaptations to buildings to facilitate access and transport like building elevators in the school for children on wheelchairs, transport of children from and to school

This is a subject and disorder near and dear to my heart. Although experts largely agree that dyslexia is identifiable as a developmental difficulty of language learning and cognition (Rose, 2009). Dyslexia is not only about literacy, although weaknesses in literacy are often the most visible sign, it effects all areas of learning as the ability to read and write sufficiently permeates all areas of learning within the curriculum. ‘Dyslexia occurs across the range of intellectual abilities’ however, the difficulties posed by having dyslexia can affect a child’s ability to learn (Rose, 2009). Every child has the right to succeed and so the teacher must strive to provide the key for learning and implement effective interventions which develop the child’s literacy skills and help them reach their full potential (DCSF, 2007; DfES, 2004).
Many students struggle with learning disabilities. Two common disabilities are Dyslexia and Dysgraphia. “According to the latest dyslexia research from the National Institutes of Health, Dyslexia affects 20 percent of Americans” (“What is Dyslexia?”) Dysgraphia is difficulty with writing that sometimes accompanies Dyslexia. Students that have Dyslexia and Dysgraphia will struggle with vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation, but there is help.

People across the United States, from small rural areas to enormous urban centers, from small town farmers, to big city nurses, exhibit signs of a Developmental Dyslexia. In fact, Herb Scribner (2014) identifies it as one of the most common disabilities that American children have, and due to this fact, most people have heard of and likely know someone who exhibits symptoms of this relatively common disability. Due to the number of those affected by this disability, it is certainly one that strikes close to the heart of Americans; so what exactly is it, and what can be done by family and specifically Occupational therapists (OTs) to reduce its debilitating effects and increase the success of these children and adults?
Dyslexia is a learning disability effecting thousands of students in schools across the world. As with many learning disabilities, dyslexia manifests itself differently in every person. Due to this inconsistency, many people feel it should not be qualified as a learning disability, but because so many students continue to have to overcome their dyslexia it continues to be diagnosed. Thankfully when teachers are aware of their students’ having dyslexia they are able to put supports in to aid their students’ learning. As a teacher, we should offer every student a high quality of education. Dyslexics children also have right to develop their potential through the school education. They are the children of future and they should supported by us before they find themselves as the loser of the society.
