Dumbo the elephant who flies by flapping his ears is probably one of everyone’s childhood memories. Well, the world is so large that it is not surprising that multiple creatures move by flapping their ears just like Dumbo. However, where this creature differs is they live in the depths of the ocean. They are classified into a family of Cephalopods, the octopus family. This creature is known as the deepest living of all octopus, Grimpoteuthis, also known as the Dumbo Octopus. Dumbo octopus is a type of octopus named after Walt Disney's famous character Dumbo the elephant because of the ear-like fins. Dumbo octopus live on the seafloor or slightly hover above it at a depth of 3000 to 4000m (9800 to 13000ft). They can be found in New Zealand, …show more content…
First of all, before trying to train them is to find a place big enough to hold at least 300 octopus’ and the more the better (eg. Big pool, aquarium, etc). Next step is to catch a lot of octopus’ and they are not easy to catch, but the simple solution here is to breed them in captivity. Up next is to set up an aquarium to match the exact habitat of the octopus, and do not forget to feed them small shrimp and crab. Now for the most interesting part, put some sharks or killer whales in the aquarium to force the dumbo octopus to learn how to use the most effective swimming technique. Everyone knows that to save lives there must be a sacrifice, but be sure to take the sharks or killer whales out before they rampage the octopuses. After they learn how to swim by quickly releasing water from their funnels, it is time to take them back to the ocean. This way there will be a lot of dumbo octopus’ around the area which also helps the newborn to learn to swim fast and avoid getting killed from predators. This will ensure that dumbo octopus will never go extinct and kids all around the world are happy, unless a moon-size meteor falls on
Cephalopods are known to be exceptionally intelligent by invertebrate standards and in some respects even rival “higher” vertebrates. These animals have many highly evolved sensory and processing organs that allow them to gain a greater understanding of their environment and their place within it. Due to their advanced structures, many of which are analogous to vertebrate structures, and abilities they have been widely studied. Their methods of learning have been of prime interest and many experiments have been conducted to determine the different ways in which octopuses can learn. From these experiments four main kinds of learning have been identified in octopuses: associative learning, special learning,
When do natural products become a delicacy? They become a delicacy when they become harder to find in their natural setting. This is what happened to the lobster and how the demands of the consumers changed. During Colonial times, the status of lobster was much different than today. It was once considered a poor man’s food. Now, it is considered a delicacy and found in many fancy dishes and at most higher priced restaurants. Today, lobster prices are high. If you want to eat a good lobster, you have to pay a decent price for it. The change in status of lobster occurred when the supply of lobster started to become depleted. As the sources of lobster were being depleted the demand increased in wealthier markets. This occurred because wealthier people could afford the higher prices created by a shrinking supply. The supply of the lobster population is what influenced the changing demands of the consumers.
Squidward Tentacles is an employee at the Krusty Krab. He is a 34 year old male. He resides in Bikini Bottom. His hobbies include playing his clarinet and painting multiple pictures which he has false hope will one day be published in some museum. The Meningeal Worm Infestation of up to 20 meningeal worms has been discovered in a single deer’s subdural cavity. The white tail deer are the preferred host, but they rarely ever suffer from any sick or neurological problems from this type of worm. We will see severe signs in llamas and alpacas; these are the two animals that can become infected with it frequently. The meningeal worm can cause damage to the central nervous system and could result in death, so it is important to try and catch it early and learn about how to prevent this deadly worm. Things that you should be familiar with about the meningeal worm are its life cycle, the signs in your animal, and any prevention or treatment options.
Naegleria fowleri, the brain eating amoeba, exists around the world; reservoirs of N fowleri include sediments of lakes, rivers, geothermal water, soil, and poorly kept swimming pools. These microbes can live in temperatures up to 45 degree Celsius and do not require a host cell for survival. The free-living amoeba is the etiological source of primary amoebic meningeocephalitis (PAM), an acute and fatal disease of the central nervous system with fatality rates over 99%. Onset of illness is quick and death typically occurs within 7-14 days. Treatment for PAM poses a challenge because of rapid disease progression and limited awareness among clinicians. According to the CDC, there are more than 30 species of Naegleria that exist, however, N fowleri is exclusively the species recognized to be pathogenic in humans. When conditions are favorable, this free-living amoeba can survive outside of the host cell.
The reason baby Gore Ottsen survived is due to a evolutionary reflex called the mammalian diving reflex. This reflex is found in mammals such as dolphins and whales who cannot breathe underwater. These animals must come up to the surface to breathe and then carry their air with them as they swim. For example, sperm whales are able to dive deeper than 1000 meters and store up to 3000 liters of air before a dive. How can a mammal stay underwater for so long? Similar to baby Gore Ottsen, the mammalian diving reflex allowing them to stay submerged for extended periods of time.
The crew threw harpoons at the creature, but those would not stay in the flesh for long. When the crew got close enough to put a noose around the creature, the rope tightened and cut through the animal, causing most of it to sink to the bottom of the sea. The crew, however, managed to pull the tail of the creature on board, and bring it back to the French Consul. From there, the tail and a report about the creature made its way to the French Academy of Sciences. Giant squid, of which there are many different species, have been spotted less than fifty times in the last century, but none have been seen in their natural habitat, the depths of the sea, or caught on tape.
you can see, the Electric Eel is a very intriguing sea creature, and a clear display of
As far as animals go amphibians have it pretty well in the popularity category. Kermit the Frog keeps smiles on the faces of people around the world, Godzilla strikes fear into the hearts of those who dare to watch his films, and Dig’Em the frog gives children all over the world Smacks cereal to get them ready for the day. However, there is one amphibian that does not get the fame it deserves. The axolotl is an amphibious salamander that deserves more recognition than it gets. The axolotl is incredibly rare in the wild, where it can be found only in the Lake Xochimilco located just south of Mexico City; while the axolotl is rare and endangered in the wild there are countless axolotls in the care of scientists and researchers. Axolotls come
Working with upscale specialty restaurants would be the best strategy for Planet Shrimp at its current level of production. Again, since Planet Shrimp is a new and growing company, its primary goal is working towards its strategic vision, so the alignment with strategic vision is rated the most highly. Restaurants with existing passion for sustainability and local fare is strongly aligned with Planet Shrimp’s strategic vision and will leverage the brand reputation. It will be the most feasible and cost-effective strategy because there are fewer locations. There are already several restaurants in Toronto that are interested in sourcing shrimp locally and sustainably (Appendix E) Planet Shrimp should supply these restaurants especially
Consider the lobster is a philosophical commentary on the ethics of preparing and eating lobster using surprising juxtapositions of ideas that lead to fresh insight.
It is very difficult to live in the Mariana Trench because of high pressure in the water. You would have to be well adapted with no bones such as the Amphipods. Amphipods are Shrimp-like Crustaceans. They're not very glamorous but are very abundant. Another thing that can survive in the deep is Sea cucumbers. Sea cucumbers are echinoderms like sea stars and they specialize in moving the abyssal plains of the world, harvesting food from the sediment with their feeding appendages.
In the painting “The Cyclops” the setting has no bright colors it has dark brown and some areas in which is pitch black. The room is lit up by a fireplace with Polyphemus’s sheep and vase around the corner of the picture, it was clear that this was in Polyphemus’s cave. Polyphemus is asleep with wine spilling out on the ground next to him it was apparent that he was passed out drunk. Odysseus and some of his crew members were scaling the wall with a big stick going towards Polyphemus’s head. It was clear that this painting was visualizing Odysseus’s plan to blind the Cyclops. ‘“I went up and chopped at length about a fathom, / and handed it over to my companions and told them to shave it/ down, and they made it smooth, while I stand by them
Sea monsters are widely known to be creatures that reside in the salty seas and are often imagined to be of enormous size. Many people do believe these creatures exist deep underneath the ocean surface; however, credible scientific evidence and valid photographs have not been recorded. Therefore, sea monsters are creatures of our imagination.
In addition, the. creature lives in a big wondrous grot and secret cell buried within the ground. Down where the sun lights flee, the kraken is battening up huge sea-worms in his sleep. It's huge. sponges of width and height blend in with the shadowy light. The enormous green giant’s giant arms would lie on the ocean bed and would have its ageless rest.
