Movie theaters are over as we know it. However, according to the article, “Movie Theaters Fight Streaming by Assaulting the Senses”, theater owners are trying to come up with ways to bring people back to the movies. Some of these ways include: IMAX theaters, Smell-O-Vision, and kinetic seats. In spite of many theaters upgrading the way they show movies, countless amounts of people would rather stay at home and rent the same movie on Netflix.
As stated in The New York Post, millennials may be to blame for the drop in movie theater attendance. New York Post is also quoted saying: “The number of ticket buyers ages 12 to 17 fell to 5.3 million in 2015, down from 5.5 million in each of the two previous years. That figure is also down from 6.3 million
in 2012, according to numbers from the Motion Picture Association of America”. In other words, the amount of young people visiting movie theaters has gone down drastically, and will continue to do so if something is not done. Barry Grieff, A CEO at Inc.com lists these possibilities for the future of movie theaters: virtual reality, viewers deciding what movies are shown, and even interactive advertisements. If all of these improvements are made, how would we know that people would leave the comfort of their own home just to see a movie? A fair amount of people would argue that the reason they do not go to theaters, is because of the high prices. Although this may be true, it is also important to realize that movies were made to be seen and shown in a theater. Even if you have a 90-inch flat screen, it still won’t be the same as seeing a movie in a theater. In conclusion, I do believe that movie theaters are dying. Even so, movie theaters are a great experience for everyone, and shouldn’t disappear.

in an old setting, many will not want to watch to movie. Also as it is
A Great Solution for a Night of Fun Imagine being able to have a theater all to yourself during a movie. The article “Drive-Ins: The Last Great Movie Show” by Melissa Shaw-Smith describes how Richard M. Hollingshead, Jr. went from a sprinkler and a radio to a thriving business taken country-wide. The idea was that you could comfortably watch a film from your own car as it was projected through a fabric screen. This appealed to families because they could have complete privacy, children were able to be as noisy as they wanted, and refreshments were accessible for families. Nothing’s more important in a public environment than privacy, so it was important for Hollingshead to include it in his theaters.
In the modern film industry, movie theaters across the nation earn billions of dollars due solely to ticket sales. When the amount of funds spent on butter-soaked popcorn, fizzing soft drinks, and handfuls of teeth-rotting confections is factored in, theater owners ought to be sufficiently content with the money being raked in. But even with that being said, no billionaire CEO is going to turn away an opportunity to earn even more.
? Netflix uses the technology of Cinematch to give customers even better service. Cinematch studies past selections made by members, and begins to recommend titles that would likely be enjoyed by the customer based on previous selections.
The average Blockbuster store carries roughly 1,500 movie titles. Netflix carries more than 12,000 titles. It has movies that you can't find anywhere else. And Netflix uses collaborative filtering technology to send you emails that alert you to movies that you might otherwise never consider. Netflix saw the video- and game-rental market moving to DVD and built its business around that trend. Netflix doesn't rent videocassettes, only DVDs (in part because they're lighter and cheaper to mail). Netflix was able to identify and implement a strategy fo...
Although Hastings vowed to be divergent from other video retailers, his goal was to use an identical pricing strategy; however, one that would “appeal to customers [. . .] who used online shopping as an alternative to traveling to retail outlets” due to ease of access and more preferences (Shih, Kaufman, & Spinola, 2009, p. 3). Furthermore, Netflix launched its business at a time DVDs had barely hit the marketplace as the firm anticipated the new technology to be a promising venture. Nonetheless, within a year DVD players became so vast...
In a movie theater, there are experiences that some will not have while at home and watching Netflix, such as the enormous screen, comfortable movie theater seating, and the theater speakers. Netflix can be used in a causal way with friends, but the main purpose of watching a movie is enjoying the experiences one can get from the movie itself. While at the movie theaters, the environment is completely different, because everyone is supposed to be quiet or else they risk being thrown out. The experience does not compare to the feeling someone gets when that intense scene appears, and they get immersed into the atmosphere of the theater. Movie theaters have the opportunity to give someone an unforgettable experience unlike Netflix, because the ambiance is truly unique and unmatched by anyone’s living
There is sufficient evidence to warrant rejection of the claim that the proportion of female adults attending the various movie theatres in the city is 50%. (Triola, 2012).
need to, and I am no longer fascinated by the movie theater industry. I find
It can be difficult to re-create the experience of going to the movie theater. However, home theaters and in-home entertainment has become more popular as online streaming has taken a precedence in the industry.
As for people who love the experience of going opening night to their favorite movie are there times when people don’t want to be in a crowd full of people and instead watch it at home. Some people may already have a home theater system at their home and would rather watch movies on their own time or whenever they feel like it. Owen Jones summarizes that a home theater does cost a lot more, but it’s an “sizable investment,” and some people like to have in their own home (Home Movie Systems, Common Theater Blunders, para. 1) At most, the people who decide to have something like a home theater set up may want to have it just for their own family enjoyment. My family recently got a Bose five speaker surround sound set up and it’s a very nice set up that gives you a movie theater sound experience that just a regular TV sound, but its all just a matter of taste, some people may not want to spend money on an investments like this. It does give options to other people who would rather stay at home to watch newly released movies that would be on The Screening Room. It was an obligation if some one wanted to see a new movie they had to go to their local theater, but with streaming devices now a days they can either wait until it’s out on Blu-ray or just wait until its on Netflix. In reality, the county is changing and adapting to a “I want it now mentality,” it may seem irrelevant, but when shoppers are waiting in line for Black Friday shopping for the perfect deal on the new TV or gaming console, the examples can be made that if the consumer wants to have a movie played to them from the comfort of their home then why hasn’t it already happened yet
Watching movies has become a form of enjoyment for the majority of individuals, and families in today’s society. With this in mind, you must acknowledge that even though it is fulfilling going to a cinema to watch a movie and watching a movie at home the two do differ in terms of their overall entertainment, quality, and cost.
Though going out to the movies with friends can be a fun night out. It is not worth the loss of comfortability that is at home. When in a private setting how clean the surroundings are is a choice made by the participant. However whether or not the theater floor will be scattered with popcorn and, spilled drinks in a public setting is completely up to the theater. Walking to a seat in the dark only to hear crunching and squelching can be a very unsettling experience. Not to mention enduring the messy floor does not guarantee a good seat. Bad seating can vary from being too close to the screen to being too far from the screen. If seat is a good distance from the screen, it may be next to an obnoxious moviegoer. Whether they are texting, talking extremely loud, or have an unpleasant odor. Nonetheless snagging the “perfect” seat does not
It does not matter where people go or stay. Watching movie is just a source of entertainment and an informative process from which a person can learn a lot of things. It’s the impact which causes changes on a person’s life not the place or area. A good movie can wake your conscience or make you laugh or may be gives you real chills and horrors. In the end it’s all about the movie’s subject which the countable factor is. It can be provided either ways. Either you stay at home to watch a movie with your family or to go out with your friends to watch it in cinemas, it will just cause an entertainment or informative delight in your life. The craze for cinemas is still there that people get sometimes so inspired by the cinematic experience that they mimic the whole cinematic atmosphere in their home with large LED’s and good surround systems. Entertainment is the main factor which binds both together. In my opinion watching movies is always exciting experience for everybody. It is another way of understanding different cultures, norms and technologies. It is a person’s own choice to decide the place for a movie according to the mood and taste. The factor of enjoyment and learning can be get from either ways. Although the trend of watching movies at home is increasing day by day as people are now making this as their primary choice does not mean that the cinema owners should shut the doors of their large auditoriums. There are still
