Drive Dan Pink Book Report

In the book Drive by Dan pink he points out the three main factors that motivates us as humans. Dan uses a lot of evidence from lab experiments to prove this point as to why some beliefs about what motivates us as human isn’t technically correct. One of the experiments which Dan Pink proves to not be accurate is the carrot and stick experiment doesn’t work anymore. In his book the three factors of motivation Dan states are Purpose, Autonomy and Mastery. The idea that people react to rewards and punishment Dan points out that it doesn’t work in the 21st century. In this century have developed and the idea of reward and punishment is something that does not work one us anymore. Even though this idea of reward and punishment doesn’t work Dan points out that some companies still try to us this tactics on their employees which often doesn’t work. Dan points out in of the experiments, he explains that when people are often reward they tend to do worse while when people aren’t rewarded they tend to average.
What motivates humans (MAP)
Dan explains that as humans we are more complexed than we then to think of ourselves. As humans we tend to not give ourselves the credit we deserve we tend to not see how much smart we are. He explains that as humans we are motivated by Purpose. Mastery and Autonomy.
Purpose Dan explains it’s something that we as humans use as motivation. Dan explains that as humans we like to attach a meaning to whatever we do. He states that purpose is something we humans use as a means of drive to continue on daily. He explained that often times as human the mistakes that most head companies make is that they don’t have purpose which causes their employees to perform poorly. What you believe you can do is what you will be able to do. Mastery is the need to develop and become really good at something whit this one can feel fulfilled. As humans knowing that a goal of ours can be achieved is something that often motivates us. Mastery is a mindset, painful and an asymptote, these are the three laws of mastery. These laws explained that to mater mastery you have to work hard and be able to bounce back from whatever, this is where the idea of mastery being painful. With mastery one also has to believe in themselves which has to do with ones mindset what this means is that for you to achieve your goal you have to believe in
