The story takes place in the Paris home of Todd Thomson as Bernard and Alison Deon as Jacquelyn. Don’t Dress for Dinner pulls of a very hilarious comedic play. It was a five person play filled with plot twist and laughs throughout the two hour show. The setting of the play was based in the living room, which lead to a stair case and a kitchen. In the play Bernard plays a married man who has a hot mistress and plans a romantic date catered by a personal chef. Kirk Smith as Robert plays Bernardo’s best friend and Robert is also, Jacquelyn’s secret lover. Jacquelyn returns home to see her husband and her secret lover in a house with two different women. This play was a plot twist comedy show filled with funny jokes. Some might say production brings value and highlight in plays. The set was made to look like a French farmhouse. The orange arm chairs stood out throughout the play. The customs were a big part of the …show more content…
This play had its funny parts and I laughed. I really liked the character Bernard, he took his role very serious and his jokes were the funniest in my opinion. The reason why he was the funniest to me was the things he said were common lies that we say when we are nervous or afraid about something which make it funny because you are able to relate in the audience. They used a very common issues and made it into a play. Men get caught everyday cheating, but when the women gets caught cheating, it turns into world war lll, in the household just like it did in the play. I did feel the nervousness coming from some of the actors but I thought it was because it was their first night and maybe were not comfortable with the set. Perhaps because it was all in once stage, the setting didn’t change. Overall it was a great cast and you could tell they had chemistry and enjoyed being around each other. I would recommend this place to others who want a little laugh in their lives or need the credit for their theater
My least favorite aspect of this play was the ending. The ending confused me and was anticlimactic. It was not funny and not entertaining at all.
Not knowing what this play was about, I went to go see it Wednesday after noon at Holyoke Community College in the Leslie Phillips Theater. I had many mixed emotions about this play. I thought some parts were very funny, but others were a little uncomfortable because of some racia...
Moments like these and many more made this such a well- rounded and fantastic play and won many awards in the highest honors that was bestowed on a dramatic work. The awards that were given for this play were well deserved because it had all the elements that makes a play great. Humor, drama, realistic, imaginary etc, are all components that this play has along with delivering a powerful
In this case the participants were not quite as seasoned as those mentioned above. The play itself was quite clever and entertaining. Varying degrees of acting and vocal ability made for a very diverse cast. Meshing an 1879 play with Millennium type humor is no small feat. The scenes were concise; costumes were extrem...
The plot, Jackie navigates the life of a preteen in New York during the 1960s. This plot begins late in Jackie’s life since her story begins 12 years prior which is when she was born but begins at the most present moment in the play which is the now. Although all of the characters are being depicted through one phenomenal actress, the characters are limited to her parents, Perespone and her family, and the friends she makes along the way. As well as the scenes and locales are fairly limited all of the scenes take place on a geographic scale in New York, and on Erickson Street or Manhattan at her private school. This shown the privileges of a small set reaffirms the focus and tightness of the
The play consisted of five characters: Marty, James, Schultz, Theresa, and Lauren. Marty and James are a couple; they knew each other through a wedding, Theresa is a former actress who ran away from the competitive New York, Schultz is an awkward carpenter who just got divorced, and Lauren is a sixteen year old girl who dreamed of becoming an actress. Marty who is the teacher started the class, but the students participated in the class’s activities
The plot of the play was very well performed in the way that they got the point across quite well. There was only one factor that disturbed me about the plot of the play witch was that some issues were extended and made the play longer. This story was seen in my eyes as a story about a Brooklyn girl that grew up her entire life using defense mechanisms such as alcohol and sex to compensate for her bad childhood and for her unsuccessful employment life.
The language in this written is in the apropeiet of the year wher this story talk about, and is popular written. It is very easy to understend for all age who watch the play and is a stage as comedy should be. The language is funny, and it doesn't let you stop laughing. It is a wild and wacky farce and rolling audience with echoing. To many part of pras we can remember and use as a comic tops of our dicenery and in the recent memory.
The way he carries himself and his voice inflections really make the viewer feel like they are in the time period and can envision themselves in the scene of the play. The actor himself really seemed to believe in the play. The way he stormed out of the Ballyhoo scene, it was obvious that he was passionate about the play and really bought into the role. At other times, he spoke to everyone like a true gentleman. The kissing scene was a soft spot in the play, and he did a great job of the whole kiss and the speaking leading up to it. In addition, the actor did a great job of using a different voice in the play. Eastern European Jews were known for speaking differently that German Jews, and his voice was unique and correct for the time
The music was simply in my opinion, background noise which helped, especially at the beginning to put the audience in place and time. The main theme I believe that The Learned Ladies encompasses is approval and greed. This play looks at the limits we are willing to go for our own happiness, but not the happiness of others. I particularly enjoy the fact that in the end, we see the true colors of each complex character. Since it is a comedy I think it is funny that it makes light of the arguments between husband and wife.
Now that the play, “Post-its (Notes on a Marriage),” could make the audience react to feel distanced and questionable of the actions of the characters, how can that relate to everyday life? traits of the play Post-its (Notes on a Marriage) through staging and conversation,
Part One:The scene that was most memorable to me in this play was when Lenny and Curley¡¦s wife shared a conversation while the others were away. It started with Lenny moping around about the rabbit he had killed and then Curley¡¦s wife joined him. This scene ended in a surprising way, but in my opinion many interesting things were discussed about the concept of life. I was extremely surprised with the ending of this scene because when the conversation began I predicted that it was the start to a close relationship between the two of them.
“The Dinner Party,” by Mona Gardner, is a short story about a banquet hosted by a colonial official and his wife in India. In this story, a young girl and a colonel conflict about how women do not have as much nerve control as men. While this argument is clashing, an American scientist notices a strange expression from the hostess. He realizes that there is a cobra in the room when the boy that the hostess summoned puts a bowl of milk outside. The American scientist quickly comes up with a strategy to warn others, but not to frighten them.
At the same time the play is a comedy. Indeed something like ninety per cent of it consists of a seemingly unending series of comic sketches. As in Beckett and Joyce, one can sense the constant influence of the music hall. The comedy is all at the expense of the foibles of the Irish their inability to be tidy, clean, or punctual;
...o, who she cares about for the sake of Bassanio. Jessica gives up her family ties to marry Lorenzo. Even Gratiano and Nerissa are devoted to one another. The play is truly about the happiness that true love brings.
