Merriam Websterś Collegiate Dictionary defines a hero as ¨A man admired for his achievements and noble qualities.¨ In the play Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, there is not a clearly defined hero, but that does not mean there isn't one. Although there could be many, Don Pedro is the most deserving of being labeled the hero because of his creation of love between people and his loyalty.
For instance, Don Pedro was able to create love by taking four people and making two different relationships filled with love. In one scene, Don Pedro declares, ¨I will in the interim undertake Hercules´ labors, which is to bring Signior Benedick and the Lady Beatrice into a mountain of affection, th´ one with th´ other,¨(Shakespeare 57). Don Pedro talks about how he will bring together Benedick and Beatrice during the time he has before the wedding and in the end he had succeeded in the task. Also in the same scene, Don Pedro says,¨Here Claudio I have wooed in thy name, and fair Hero is won,¨(Shakespeare 55). He speaks about how he has wooed Hero for Claudio and by doing so he has created another …show more content…

In the first scene, Don Pedro says, “Thou wilt be like a lover presently And tirer the hearer with a book of words. If thou dost love fair Hero, cherish it, And I will break with her and with her father, And thou shalt have her,”(Shakespeare 25). He was talking about how he will woo Hero for Claudio and in this action he is being loyal. Later on in the book he proclaims,”Gentleman both, we will not wake your patience. My heart is sorry for your daughter’s death, But on my honor, she was charged with nothing But what was true and very full of proof,”(Shakespeare 163). This expression was meant to explain how he shall stay loyal to his friend and keep on believing that Claudio was betrayed by Hero.
