On May 5, 2008, Dominique M. Wright was arrested and charged with (count 1) attempted first degree murder with a firearm, and (count 2) aggravated battery with a firearm. At the time of the commission of the crimes, Dominique Wright was 15 years old. On January 11th, 2012, Dominique Wright was convicted as a charge in the information, On March 2, 2012 the court sentenced him to 30 years in the department of corrections with a 25 year mandatory minimum on count 1 and a 20 year mandatory minimum on count 2. According to the Criminal Punishment Code Scoresheet, which was prepared by the Assistant State Attorney, the minimum sentenced allowable by law was 10.9 years in the Department of Corrections. During a brief sentencing hearing, the court noted that Dominique's mother had been murdered by his father when he was two years old, and that he had been raised by his grandmother. The court ruled …show more content…
There were no DNA evidence that can prove that he was or is guilty, there are no cross statements by him nor his co-defendant, there were contradicting statements by each victim. There were little to no evidence. The state prosecutor was allowed to introduce two of Dominique's rap video's as evidence. The rap video's were largely why Dominique was convicted. The state prosecutor made the case about rap music. Rap music was mentioned more than the victims name. It was clear that Dominique was convicted based solely on rap music. A good indication of prejudicial effect is that Dominique's co-defendant was actually granted a severance, because the rap songs did not involve him. Sure enough, he was
They found Casey Anthony, who was charged with first degree murder of her 3-year-old, not guilty. While she was not guilty of murder, she was convicted on counts four through seven for false information given to the police. The judge sentenced her to one year in county jail for each one of the four counts, but she was released 10 days after she received 1043 days credit. If I was part of the jury I would have said she was guilty of murdering her daughter. Even if she did not kill her, she is still part of the reason why she died. Casey neglected her child either way and did not report the crime to the police until someone else did. I am shocked that the visual evidence did not convince the jury that she was guilty. From the strand of hair in the trunk that matched the past child’s hair, to the extensive research on chloroform found on all web browsers, it was very evident that she did or was at least part of murdering her
For these crimes, Anthony was sentenced to one year in county jail and $4,000 in fines which I think is an absurd verdict. Anyone who feels justice was served in this case does not share my view of the concept. Regardless of whether Casey Anthony killed her daughter or not, the level of apathy she displayed disgusts me as well as her attempts to cover up the death of a child. I tend to agree with the prosecution in that it only takes a little common sense to realize this woman should not be able to share the world we live. Innocent people don't cover up accidents, especially involving the death of their only child, a beautiful little girl, who could have just as easily been dropped off at any adoption agency in the country and been picked up within days. I think, in this particular instance, there was a fundamental problem in determining the punishment, because while maybe it could not be established, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Casey Anthony murdered her daughter, anyone in their right mind could tell you that if you are a mother whose child has just died and your out at nightclubs posing in "hot body contests" and getting tattoos that read "beautiful life" then your pretty sick in the head, certainly sick enough, in my opinion, to have pulled the trigger. If I had been on the jury I certainly would not have
The prosecution suffered from staggering tunnel vision in Morin's guilt. Their entire case for both trials was built on a few arguably points. There was the "evidence" of Morin's opportunity to commit the crime, the supposed confessions during interrogation, h...

Many students who are enrolled in FFA are already heading in the right direction to a bright future. FFA has many career benefits within the program. Any of the career development events (CDE’s) have something that will tie to a career in agriculture or to a career of other sorts. According to the National FFA Organization, “FFA members embrace concepts taught in agricultural science classrooms nationwide, build valuable skills through hands-on experiential learning and each year demonstrate their proficiency in competitions based on real-world agricultural skills”(“Statistics”). There are so many careers that tie into FFA, and many of them have to do with agriculture. Not every career that has to do with agriculture is about farming. There are so many different aspects of the agriculture industry that many people never think twice about. Most people are not interested in agriculture because they think it is just about farming or
The presumption of innocence is “One of the most sacred principles in the American criminal justice system... the prosecution must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, each essential element of the crime charged,” (“Presumption Of Innocence”). A guilty man can not be charged without evidence of their wrong doing. In 1999, Adnan Syed was arrested for the murder of Hae Min Lee. From the unfair ruling in the court by the bias jurors, and his lawyer getting lost in her argument and missing the sole purpose of the case, even an innocent man would not have walked free. The facts point to him being guilty but, none of the details should have been admissible in the court.
The officers tampered with evidence and made a false discovery that he was the person and that is how he was convicted (Innocent Project N.D.). Many forensic methods have been implemented in research when looking for evidence, but the methods that are not scientific and have little or nothing to do with science. The result of false evidence by other means leads to false testimony by a forensic analyst. Another issue with forensic errors is that it is a challenge to find a defense expert (Giannelli, 2011).
...t I do not think that the evidence presented is enough for a conviction to sentence any man or woman to death.
During the trial, there were numerous errors. The judge mistook sustained and overruled and a defence attorney had to object again for the judge to sustain the objection. As the prosecution asked about the character of the accused, which is not admissible in the court of law.
Educational budget cuts are hitting children’s passions in a negative way. School, teachers, and extra activities are a safe place for some children. Lynda Barry is showing how school can be a safe place for children, like it was for her. School and teachers can save children from their negative home life. In Barry’s essay she shows how school was her safe place, and how educational budget cuts are bad. Lynda Barry’s position that educational budget cuts are bad is correct, because for some children school and teachers the only safe place they have, extra school activities can help keep troubled children off the streets, and educational budget cuts may take a child’s passion away such as music, arts, sports, and so on.
An argumentative essay persuades the audience or a reader to state an issue that gives some several valid and true reasons, where it can be supported by the evidence and make the audience to adopt a new belief or behavior. The argumentative essay can be also written in a MLA (Modern Language Association) or APA (American Psychological Association) format. It depends on what format you prefer. A good argumentative essay starts with a good topic where it can claim what the argumentative essay is about. It is important that topic need to have something that interests you as a writer and reader as an audience. Before writing an argumentative essay, you need to know that what kind of audience are you writing for. For example, if you are writing for a younger audience, you need to be careful about the language and sentences structure, which should be simple and short to understand. Likely, if you are writing for a highly educated audience, you need to provide
Every person has wondered about something - whether it be a person, place, thing, law, or anything that someone can think about. They ask questions both rhetorical and actual to themselves, and usually make it a mission to answer these questions. Some of the biggest questions have something to do with culture and religion. One of the most major questions of all time - to what extent does an individual have control over the outcome of his or her life? There are many different opinions on this topic.
Cycling has a multitude of benefits, more than getting from one place to another. Cycling improves your cardiovascular system, nervous system, muscular structure, and helps to build your core strength, just name a few. However, once kids reach junior high and high school cycling as a whole starts to wane or becomes a distant memory. NICA, National Interscholastic Cycling Association has recognized this issue and has taken actions to get kids off the electronics and back outside where they are socializing face to face with others and getting back into the habit exercising. The military, seeing the results of NICA’s actions has decided to aid NICA to help not only those in the Armed Forces, but their families as well through the MWR, Moral
In the story Rainsford accidently fell out of the yacht, forcing him to swim the closest land, which happened to be Ship-trap island. While, the movie made it so that he was the only survivor after the ship crashed and exploded into thousands of pieces. I think the movie version changed the whole plot of the story. Mainly, because in the text Whitney didn't die, meaning that he can always go looking for Rainsford. As for the movie, we saw bodies floating in the water and two people get eaten alive by a shark. So there is no one to come look for Rainsford on the island. I also think that this changes the mood of the story. With Whitney not dying in the short story version,
