The smell of death and decay, emanated inside the trunk of a Pontiac Sunfire. A missing child; only to be reported 31 days after she went missing, found dead in a forest close to her home. And a mother who was accused of murder, who got off with no charges, even with evidence stacking against her. This all started with one 9-1-1 phone call from a concerned grandmother who has not seen her grandchild in a month. Casey Anthony was the main headline in all the newspapers, cable television, and social media. Over more than 140 million people sat and watched as the trial played on, and a verdict was reached. This case was the largest and most polarizing case that America has ever seen. The 9-1-1 phone call started it all, Cindy Anthony reported her grandchild, Caylee Anthony missing and that the smell of death reeked inside the mother’s car. Caylee was missing for nearly 31 days and Casey was charged with first degree murder. Hundreds of evidences were found, …show more content…
They found Casey Anthony, who was charged with first degree murder of her 3-year-old, not guilty. While she was not guilty of murder, she was convicted on counts four through seven for false information given to the police. The judge sentenced her to one year in county jail for each one of the four counts, but she was released 10 days after she received 1043 days credit. If I was part of the jury I would have said she was guilty of murdering her daughter. Even if she did not kill her, she is still part of the reason why she died. Casey neglected her child either way and did not report the crime to the police until someone else did. I am shocked that the visual evidence did not convince the jury that she was guilty. From the strand of hair in the trunk that matched the past child’s hair, to the extensive research on chloroform found on all web browsers, it was very evident that she did or was at least part of murdering her
I chose to explain Casey Anthony’s behavior using the eight stage theory of identity and psychosocial development by Erik Erikson. If Casey claim against her father and brother is true about them sexually molesting her throughout her childhood, then that would have played a big role in her life and also the fact that she and her mother had a terrible relationship with a lot fighting and abuse toward one another didn’t help her case. If we take a look at Erik’s fourth stage industry vs. inferiority, it states that during this stage school aged children are very social stage of development and if they experience unresolved feelings of inadequacy and inferiority among our peers, we can have serious problems in terms of competence and self-esteem.
Scott Peterson was an educated man from California Polytechnic State University where he graduated with a B.A. in Agricultural Business. He was married to his wife Laci Peterson who was also pregnant with their unborn son. In December of 2002 Laci Peterson went missing in the Modesto, California area where she shared a home with Scott. Once the investigation of Scott’s missing wife started authorities began to suspect Scott as a suspect in her disappearance. In April of 2003 a fetus and a female torso that was missing hands, feet, and a head were found on the shoreline of San Francisco Bay. The San Francisco Bay area was where Scott was boating the day of Laci’s disappearance. The body was later identified as Laci Peterson and the fetus as Laci and Scott’s unborn son. Scott was also arrested in the month of April shortly after the discovery of Laci and their son’s body and was later sentenced to the death penalty. Over the course of this paper I will cover the whole event of the disappearance of Laci Peterson, relating it to a sociological theory, the impact the event had on our society and how the media had influence over this national event.
On June 20, 2001, a terrible tragedy occurred, as Andrea Yates drowned all five of her children in the bath. After drowning each child child, she picked them up, tucked them in her bed and called in her next victim until all 5 children were deceased. After she had successfully drowned each child, she calmly called her husband and notified local police that she was in need of an officer. As this case reached international news, many pondered what would make the mother of five do such an abysmal thing. Once the investigation began, it became acknowledged that Andrea Yates was influenced by several psychological perspectives and was not in her right mind when she committed the heinous crime.
On July 15th, 2008, Caylee Anthony was reported missing by her grandmother Cindy Anthony. Cindy Anthony in the report stated that she hadn’t seen her grand-daughter Caylee for a month and that she and her husband were suspicious because their daughter Casey’s car reeked of decay, as if a dead body had been stored inside the vehicle for days. Caylee and her mother resided with Casey Anthony’s parents. However, Cindy Anthony claimed that Casey had given different explanations about Caylee's whereabouts before telling Cindy that she hadn’t seen her own daughter for several weeks. When questioned by authorities, Casey told the detectives several lies: stating the child had been kidnapped by her nanny on June 9, and that Casey had been trying to contact the nanny to find her daughter. Preceding this information, Casey Anthony was convicted and charged with first degree murder in 2008, but pleaded not guilty ...
Casey Anthony was accused of killing her two-year-old daughter Caylee, but because of lack of evidence, Anthony was convicted not guilty. John Cloud, from Time magazine, implies, “And yet virtually no one doubts that Anthony was involved in her child’s death. In fact, her lawyer admits that Anthony know how her daughter’s body would be disposed of” (“Few Doubt That Casey Anthony Was Involved in Her Child’s Death. But Fascination With Her Case Has Made It The First Major Murder Trial Of The Social-Media Age”). They found Caylee’s corpse duct taped by Casey’s parent’s house, in Orlando, Florida. The only evidence they found was in the family Pontiac Sunfire. The stench of decomposing flesh overpowered the trunk of the family’s car. “Why did Anthony let 30 days pass between the time Caylee went missing and the day police were notified?” questioned Tresniowski, “And how could she so blithely dan...
Casey Anthony. Throughout those six weeks, there were claims that the Anthony family had dark family secrets which included that Casey was sexually abused by both her father and her brother. The defense made claims that Caylee’s death was caused by accidental drowning in the family’s pool. The prosecution told the story of the days after the las day Caylee was seen. They highlighted Casey as a party girl who possessed new found freedom once Caylee was out of the picture. There were also claims that the meter reader who found the body moved it from its original
The Casey Anthony case was one that captured the heart of thousands and made it to the headline of national TV talk shows, newspapers, radio stations and social media networks for months. The root of the case was due to a clash between the parental responsibilities, the expectations that went with being a parent, and the life that Casey Anthony wanted to have. The case was in respect to the discovering the cause of Casey’s two-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony’s, death; however the emphasis was placed on Casey and her futile lies, which resulted in a public outcry. The purpose of this essay is to delve into the public atmosphere and inquire about why the media and social media collectively attacked the case by uncovering the content of the case, the charges that were laid, and later dismissed, the “performers” of the trial and the publics reaction. It will further discuss how it defies universal ideologies and how the media represents this. The discussion of the complexities of the case and its connotations will incorporate Stuart Hall’s Representation and the Media, Robert Hariman’s Performing the Laws, What is Ideology by Terry Eagleton, The Body of the Condemned by Michael Foucault, and a number of news articles, which will reveal disparate ideas of representation in the media, and the role of the performers of the law and their effect on the understanding of the case.
The Andrea Yates murder trial was one of the most highly publicized cases of 2001. Perplexing and complicated, it appealed to the public audience for various reasons. A mother methodically, drowns her five children in the family bathtub after her husband leaves for work. Was this an act of a cold calculating killer, or was this the act of a woman who lost touch with reality. Is this a case of medical neglect, and psychological dysfunctions, or is this a battle of ethics and deviant behavior exploiting medical and legal loop holes?
...county has presented was the odor of the car smelling like decomposing human body. The media to me made the case seem more one sided that she was guilty right off the bat the prosecutors must of have the same feeling that will lead up to little evidence they will provide in the court room. In my opinion I do think Casey Anthony is guilty on count of murder she was lien to everyone about everything, steal money from friends and family, and still trying to go out partying when she should have been caring for her daughter. There is not one parent that will go thirty plus days without knowing where their only child is. Even though she lied to law enforcement about her daughter where beings have been for the pass month, it was not enough evidence to convict her of murder in the first degree the charges that the county was actually trying to charge against Casey Anthony.
...rls are not the only ones to blame. The court followed the girls without second guessing themselves and even helped push things along. They made people who were already accused accuse other innocent people in order for them to save their own lives. A lot of people would be surprised by all the things they could do to other people, when they are placed in a situation where they have to decide between their lives and the other person's.
The Jodi Arias trial captured American attention very rapidly and soon become nearly the only thing on television news networks. The trial nearly monopolized Fox News for several months. There are several murders that happen every day in the United States, so how did this murder case gain so much attention? Because it contains many themes that are enticing to the American population. According to Elliott McLaughlin at CNN.com, “It's rife with sex, lies and digital images, many of them naughty, and the dueling attorneys are lively -- nay, bombastic -- in their arguments...
The Andrea Yate’s case impacted America greatly. She was known as an average catholic mother who was born in Houston, Texas. She had an education, pursued a nursing degree. And was normally developed and respected by her family throughout her life (Murderpedia). After reading about this case study I found it to be very interesting but also very insane... Andrea Yates’ was a mom of five children and randomly decided one day to drown all of them because she believed that would save them from “burning in hell”. After the occurrence of this traumatic event, she was sent to psychiatric prison for life but was eventually released if received excellent mental health care. Many people were shocked that they released her from prison because this woman
One of the longest most expensive trials in American history was a very disturbing one and it's called the McMartin Preeschool trial. The Preschool was located in Manhattan Beach, California. This trial was based on accusations of over 360 acts of sexual assault, satanic acts, and killing animals. More than half of the faculty sodomized the young children that attended McMartin. Ray Buckey was one of the first ones convicted and later on more and more of the faculty were discovered in taking part in this. In the McMartin Preschool trial justice was not served because most of the workers at the preschool got convicted of their crime, but not all of them.
casey anthony is a perfect example of being shunned in society She was one of the hated women in america when she was accused in the murder of her 2 year old daughter, caylee in 2008 her trial was mostly followed anthony 2011 acquittal caused so many protest against her but media it slowly died down when the case was over sometimes people talk about it's basically like ”remember casey” “yeah that was crazy she got a with murdering her 2 year old daughter” people still talk about but they don't go over the top with it as they did during 2008 because there's a lot of crazy things going on the world, but the reason people believe she did it because it to her 31 on days to report that her daughter was missing most people see that suspicious most mothers wouldn't even allow that for like one second and i can't even leave the house my mom would are ready freakout after I just told her i'm going somewhere she would are ready called the cops when she dont see me or she will call me every two min to make sure that i'm okay for Anthony to take 31 days that is crazy in my opinion her daughter is 2 years old and i'm 16 you would of thought he daughter would had been a grown women to be gone for 31 days on Avl (The Alabama Virtual Library) i was reading article called “Beautiful Liar?” “Anthony initially told police her daughter had vanished after she’d left her with a babysitter named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, who, she claimed, had also disappeared” but comes to find out
The eighth law that can cause a crime to be viewed as a capital crime is “the person murders an individual under six years of age.” (Pilgrim 06) Prolonged media attention reflecting cases on capital crimes committed by women, causes cases to have extreme bias, and causes the judge or jury to neglect the actual case. This is mirrored by the circumstances of the case involving the 2008 disappearance and murder of Caylee Anthony the suspected killer which was the child’s own mother, Casey Marie Anthony. Casey Anthony, the mother of then three-year old daughter Caylee Anthony, was believed to have murdered her daughter in order to avoid parental responsibilities. Although an overwhelming amount of evidence backing up claims and beliefs that Casey Anthony was in fact the perpetrator of the murder, including forensic data connecting decomposition remains of the child to Anthony’s car during the time of the child’s disappearance, and FBI attained data comprising of Google search terms including methods involved in the murder of Caylee from a comp...
