Genetics Behind the Domestication of Cats
Cats have been companions for over 10,000 years and it had lead scientist to believe they domesticated themselves unknowingly from the beginning. Many scientists believe cats inherited certain genetic mutations from ancestors who weren’t afraid of humans. There is a study that identified some of the genes that could be responsible for the change between house cats and their wild ancestors. It appears that the change from feral to domestic had to do with the genes for behavior, forming memories, and reward seeking behavior. It has played a major role in feline domestication. Feral and domestic felines have very few differences in their eating and behavioral habits. Nearly ten-thousand years ago, humans

Humans began to welcome cats because they controlled rodents that consumed their grain harvests. Scientists have came up with the hypothesis that humans would reward the cats for sticking around. These wild felines then stayed, and over time they became domestic cats. Today we still reward cats for catching mice and other rodents that are not welcomed. The cats would form memories that if it did this, then it would get that. This is how cats started to become “mooches” in today's society. Some cats meow to get attention while other cats meow to get more food. Over the past 10,000 years we have studied that wildcats never tried to communicate with us, but today the domestic house cat meows to get something from us (such as food, water, or attention). Ultimately, cats have developed a reward-seeking behavior over thousands of years to help them develop into the domestic house cat we know of today. Researchers compared the genomes of domestic cats to wild cats and found specific regions of the domestic cat genomes that differed much. The differences that scientist have found in the cat genome have helped explain characteristics such as why cats are almost completely carnivorous, and how their vision and sense of smell differ from other animals like dogs. Scientists have also found particular fat-metabolizing genes to efficiently break down fats. This more rapid change gives the genes a digestive advantage to carnivores that only consume animal
Summary: “Wild to Mild” is about how cats became a thing. Before cats were tigers they were hunters at a point they help egyptian hunt for birds. When the word “domestication” is used when talking about dogs, most people have the misconception that humans brought dogs into their homes on purpose, and that is was something they did consciously. However, after reading about Hare’s research it is easy to understand that this

The Cathars were a very peaceful group that adopted a life of extreme devotion. Both men and women could become "parfaits". "Parfaits" referred to people who were seen by the Catholic Church as "perfect heretics". They renounced the world and abstained from eating meat and having any sexual contact. The Cathars lived in poverty. The men would travel and preach, and they earned money by cloth making, and shepherding. Followers were not expected to abide by the same ascetic standards as the parfaits, and they were permitted to eat meat and engage in sex. Catharism, or Albigensianism, was a religion which originated in the Balkans long before it made its appearance in the southwestern region of France , around the 12th century. It was a religion like any other, based on good versus evil. Albigensianism was a heretic religion and the catholics were not very fond of this new and upcoming religion. Its creed stated that god never created Earth, Jesus never existed nor did he suffer on the cross. The only ceremony practiced by the Cathars was the consolamentum or baptism of the Holy Spirit. For the Cathars, this was the only means of salvation. The Cathar clergy were those who had already received the consolamentum as part of the ritualistic ordination and had already been saved. The lay Cathars, or Believers, were obliged to receive the same sacrament before death in order to be saved as well. By the early thirteenth century Catharism was a very quickly growing religion in the area of Languedoc. It was supported by the nobility as well as the common people. This was yet another annoyance to the Roman Church. Even in open debates, Ca...
After a while, it was such that if I was home, the cats would follow me where ever I went. Just like Stickeen who “was sure to be at his heels, provided I had not gone out.”(par. 7). Every time I drove into the driveway, regardless of where they would be, they would come running out to greet me. The minute I stepped out of the car, they would circle me brushing against my feet and look at me with excitement in their eyes. Then they would stand up on their hind limbs and ask for a petting on their
Later on they were bred as companion animals. The different variations of domesticated dog will be discussed later. The down fall of artificial selection is that it decreases variation in a species. Pure bred dog are highly susceptible to many different disorders and disease because of the lack of variation in their genotype. With these two processes, today we have friendly canine
for dark, mysterious, and bizarre works of fiction. His works sometimes reflected his life experiences and hardships he tried to overcome. Examples of the troubles in his life include alcoholism, having his works rejected over and over, being broke, and losing his family, even his beloved wife to tuberculosis. There is no wonder why his works are so dark and evil, they were taken from his life. A theme is defined as the major or central idea of a work. Poe’s short story, “The Black Cat”, contains six major themes that are discussed in this paper. They include the home, violence, drugs and alcohol, freedom and confinement, justice and judgement, and transformation.
Domestication is a process in which wild species are removed their natural habitat and are acclimatised to surviving and breeding in captive. Animals are domesticated for purposes which, in general, are designed to be beneficial to humans. These reasons commonly include labour, food sources and companionship. Over generations, domestication results in genetic and physiological changes in the organism (Wilson,. Mammal Species of the World (3rd Ed.). Baltimore).

Many people in the world today suffer with problems such as anxiety and depression. As a way to treat these problems, those people should use animal-assisted therapy. Animal-assisted therapy (also known as pet therapy) is used in many hospitals and is growing more every day.
Pets are a common sight in many households today. In fact, according to the APPMA National Pet Owners Survey, 63 percent of U.S. households own a pet. At the top of this percentage are dogs and cats. One of the most important decisions an owner of a dog or cat has to make is whether or not to get them spayed or neutered. There are various reasons why people choose to not have this done, but all those reasons can be proven invalid. Many factors come in to play as why this is such an important thing to do. The effects of dogs and cats not being spayed or neutered has become such a major issue that it should be a law that all pet owners have to get their pet spayed or neutered.
We all are busy people who are out of the house most of the day. We need a companion to help us ease the stress from daily life. For example, if you are purr-catinating on essays or preparing for speeches late at night, you at least have a companion by your side. A great companion is the cat, you get to pet a fluffy thing and get free scratches. Why cats? Well, cats are purr-ty interesting creatures. According to Discovery News, in 1960s, the CIA tried to turn a cat into a spy, but un-fur-tunately, they failed when the cat was ran over by a cab. Another interesting fact according to Buzzfeed is female cats are typically right-pawed while male cats are typically left-pawed. There is also a cat island named Tashirojima that are terrorized by stray cats in Japan. The main problem is there are too many cats in the shelters that need a home, according to ASPCA, approximately 3.4 million cats enter the shelters every year. Well the solution to this is you can adopt a cat. There are a few things you need to do before adopting a cat.
Stray animals are dangerous reason being is children or elderly people can be bit while walking or playing around at parks. I live in Mercedes and at one point when I was walking from stars to the high school, and stray dog for no reason started growing at me and my instinct was to run until I got the a building. This can happen to anyone, they can be attacked trying to touch a stray or just simply walking by, or even worse a child can catch a disease. Also owners with their pets are also getting attacked by stray animals because they strays tend to be over protective of their territory, or they just want to fight with the pet of the owner.
