Nationwide, approximately 50 percent of all children will be bitten by a dog before they reach the age of twelve (DeIorio, “Have a Dog-Bite-Free Summer”). In Marion County, Florida, aggressive and dangerous breads of dogs are a “serious issue” for the community according to Marion County Commissioner Jim Payton (Thompson, “County drops '1 free kill'”). Responsible dog owners seem to be unaware of the problem but area residents who have been victims of these attacks have turned to the Marion County Board of Commissioners for help. The local County Commissioners have been wrestling with this issue since October of 2009 when a widow from Ocklawaha, Patricia McBee, had three of her dogs euthanized after they allegedly killed her neighbor’s cat (Thompson, “County drops ‘1 free kill’”). The need for change moved even faster after a 3-year-old little girl was attacked and killed by a dog that was chained to a tree outside her house in Citra (Lee, “Girl, 3, mauled”).

In my head, I had imagined I would be ignored, get whispers behind my back, and never be able to show my face in the neighborhood again. I did get some whispers and comments made but it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. On the very beginning of my walk, my neighbor who normally always asks to pet my dog did not today which I attributed to me also walking a stuffed dog. He instead chuckled a little and say, “I hope you have a great day!”. I continued to walk and I came across a lady walking her two black labs, her dogs and my real dog started to sniff each other and her one dog went up to my other “dog” and the lady asked with a laugh, “are you walking your dog’s toy for him?” To that I responded, “No, I just wanted this dog to get some fresh air as well.” She raised then raised her eyebrow and continued to walk. As I continued my walk I approached the elementary school which had just gotten out and I noticed a lot of the children that normally come up and pet my real dog, Striker, did not come up to me today, and I also noticed a few comments such as, “she is walking a stuffed animal” , “honey, we have to go home we don’t have time to pet the dog”, and lastly, “do you see what i’m seeing? Is she walking a stuffed dog?” I laughed it off and continued my walk. My last encounter I experienced was from a man on a run, he stopped and said, “I’m sorry if I’m being rude but are you walking a
A dog handler working in the law enforcement field is basically an officer who has completed all of the requirements to become first a police officer, and then a specially trained officer working with other specially trained police canines. These highly trained dogs are either chosen or bred for their high intelligence and their strong sense of smell (Canine Officer Careers – K9 Job Description., 2015). There are many tasks that these dog handlers and canines have to perform on a daily basis. This is why it is important to have dogs that are well rounded in their intelligence and their sense of smell. Not only is the handler just a dog handler, but he maintains the duty of being a police officer and has to perform duties such as apprehending
A few days ago, while walking my dog, I decided to run with him but with the leash in my hand, so that way he could be free to stop and sniff wherever he wanted. This experience was very good for the dog because he was not tied to the limits that I provided, but he was always by my side running. A couple of minutes after being “free” a policeman showed up. To my surprise he was upset with me and said that having a dog without control was a big misdemeanor. Then, he proceed to take my information and gave me a citation to the Municipal Court of The Colony, while my dog was still trying to sniff around, like nothing different was happening. Afterwards, I looked for places or parks that were dog-friendly in order to take my dog, and that wa...

While on patrol I responded to the Citgo Gas Station on North Three Notch Street in reference to a panic alarm. Current animal testing has been a contentious subject ever since it started off 150 years back. Although a lot of people discover animal testing inhumane and egoistic, it is a important factor to boost our understanding of medication and to improve our understanding of science. Animal testing, to some, is the way to ameliorating our level of living and preserving many lives, and therefore has many benefits. On the other hand, the negatives may not be passed, and scientists are constantly trying to decrease the damages with some methods they create in the process. Even so, to the dismay of numerous animal lovers in addition to those who are endeavoring for animal rights, animal testing will not be stopped every time soon because, for now, it is the most trustworthy form of testing that includes the safety of daily products we use more carefully than any other procedure.

On the 14th of October 2017, I was asked by Miss Felicia McDonald at about 0900hrs to move to 613 for an investigative interview. After reading Mr. Sander's statement, I proceeded to inform Miss McDonald that the statement was false has the statement does not reflect what I told Mr. Sanders when I called my Cell phone nor did it reflect what I told him when he came to meet me on the route.
