In the end, genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation. During the Indian Removal Act thousands of Native Americans were forced out of their home because they weren’t American and most died from diseases. Millions of people were killed during the Jewish Holocaust because they were Jews. Both of these events are alike and different in many ways. These incidents are considered genocide because people were killed because of their race or
Animal cruelty is a rapidly growing nationwide problem. Animals are being battered and starved everyday. There are many forms of animal cruelty; some forms are scientific research, abandonment, and mistreatment.
By definition, genocide is the mass extermination of a whole group of people, or an attempt to destroy an entire group of people, either in whole or in part. Whether it’s based on race, ethnicity, culture, or religion, the systematic destruction of a certain group of people constitutes as genocide. Forced transfer of the children of a group to another in an attempt to destroy a certain group also counts as genocide. Genocide covers a broad spectrum of points, and it’s surprising that so many of these points actually occur in our civilized society, but it does occur.
Robert Gonzales, from Bakersfield, seemed like an average, ordinary man. One night however, he was accused of splashing beach on a small dog, and wrapping the dog’s mouth with duct tape. His goal was to discipline the dog. Gonzales was caught and arrested for abusing the animal. Animal abuse is an occurring problem in the U.S. But can be prevented if we take action.
Animals are used today for many sources of protection, food, clothing, transportation, sports, entertainment, and labor, but millions of these animals die each year from abuse. “Most of the reasons that people give for denying animals rights are: animals do not have souls, god gave humans dominion over the animals, humans are intellectually superior to animals, humans are intellectually superior to animals, animals do not reason, think, or feel pain like humans do, animals are a natural resource to used as humans see fit, and animals kill each other” (Evans). It all started in the nineteenth century, when people began abusing animals by beating them, feeding them poorly, providing them with no shelter or poor shelter, left to die if they were sick or old, or by cruel sports. Most of the organized efforts to improve human treatment of animals all started in England. Around the 1800s, there was signs of rising concern for animal welfare in the United States.
Should animals have to go through pain and suffering? Should they have to go without food and/or water? The answer is no. Animal abuse happens everyday and it happens because people are barbarous or because they don’t know how to take the best care of an animal that they have. Whatever the reason it’s still not right and will never be okay. This paper will cover a brief history of animal abuse, the statistics, the signs of animal abuse, and what can be done to stop animal abuse. Animal abuse needs to end for the animals that can’t speak for themselves.
Around the world, millions of animals are experimented on, tortured, and killed every year. Many of these animals range from simple household pets, such as cats and
“There can be many reason for animal cruelty, like any other form of violence, is often committed by a person who feels powerless, unnoticed, or under control of others. Some who are cruel to animals copy acts what they have seen or that have been done to them, others see harming an animal as a safe way to get revenge against--or threaten-- someone who cares about that animal”. (“Animal… Statistics”) Concerns towards abusing animals have gone up in the past. Although there are not many cases on animal abuse, many have occurred. Abusers are charged with Criminal Animal Abuse and then sentenced to life in prison. Some animals that are physically abused are sometimes rescued by Animal Control, and are taken it to an animal shelter. However, many shelters have not had the space to keep the animals so the workers would have to put them down (Carol Roach). Researchers have shown that the main animals getting abused are dogs, chickens, horses, and livestock (“Animal...
Horses were operated as transportation from place to place during the war. They also were conducted to attack any enemy that was willing to attack their master. History today discusses how “train trooper and horses to be truly effective as Battlefields Calvary” (warhorses”14). Horses were often used as a shield which resulted from them taking a bullet for their masters. They deliver messages to other soldiers and civilians throughout the war. “Many commanders instead deployed cavalry away from the battlefield on raids on the enemy lines of communications” (‘warhorses”15). Horses were used to cut down on travel time during combat. History Today explains that “General B.H. Grieson, led 2,000 horsemen through Mississippi, marching 600 miles in less than 16 days” (‘warhorses”15). By the service of a horse, soldiers could arrive at their destination quickly. Also, this cuts down at the additional exhaustion of the soldiers so they would be more ready for the battle. By allowing soldiers to conserve their energy into it prepared them to fight effectively in the war. As before discuss horses were useful for carrying equipment and general transportation was one of the benefit horses provided in the World
For thousands of years, wild and domesticated animals have been used for war to enhance their military's strength and capabilities. Using animals such as horses, elephants, dogs, and even pigs may have greatly helped military forces, but in extremely inhumane ways, often causing thousands of non-human causalities.
Some examples of animal abuse are dogfighting, cockfighting, neglect, warfare, circuses, and many more. In circuses the performers whip the animals for no reason. Animal neglect is when dogs, cats, horses, any animal has been starved and bruised and gotten pretty bad beatings. The most abused animal are dogs. They would be chained up all day without food, water, and shelter.
However, stunning method can also create complication. All stunning methods, including electrical stunning, result in the secretion of larger quantities of epinephrine than a typical environmental stressor (Warrington, 1974). This epinephrine will not be sensed by an unconscious animal, but an improperly stunned animal will be hugely traumatized and stressed, and will experience significant anxiety during the process (Kilgour, 1978). In addition, electrical stunning results in an increased heart rate (Gregory, 1998), an indication of an animal in physiological stress. Even if we can make scientific arguments to prove one killing method is better than the other, killing and death are always painful and cruel; therefore such arguments are invalid; saying one method causes less pain than the other is not reasonable to kill an animal.
One of the first steps in saving animals and creating effective laws is understanding what animal cruelty really is. There are two types of cruelty: Passive cruelty and Active cruelty. Passive cruelty is when the abuse happens as a result of neglect. It might s...

Animals DO have feelings. They may not be able to talk and tell us where it hurts, but they do feel pain, just like humans. There are laws to protect animals, just like humans. I do not feel as though the laws are strong enough, nor are they enforced the way they should.
