The article begins by stating what is seen as common knowledge, that the brain has two hemispheres. The right and left hemisphere. The left hemisphere controls the ability to use and understand language, while the right hemisphere controls depth-perception. Damage to the left side of the brain due to strokes and other brain injuries can cause the victim to loose different degrees of speech ability. They theory of each hemisphere working separate as their own mental systems with their own abilities for learning, remembering and understanding the world is show in this experiment. Roger W. Sperry (1913-1994) used animals to research this theory and found success when he had used cats' brains to conduct the experiment by separating the two hemispheres communication and altering the optic nerves so the left eye transmitted to the left hemisphere and vice verse. After the surgery the cats appeared to behave normally and showed to evidence of being ill due to the procedure. A test was conducted covering the right eye of the cat and it used the left eye to find its was around he maze. When the covering was moved to the left eye the cat had to learn the maze all over again. …show more content…

There were three test created to test these questions. The first test was designed to examine the visual ability to understand what was presented in front of them visually. The second test was used to examine the ability to describe touch stimulation such as common house hold objects (a spoon, block letters, marbles, ect.) without being able to see the objects. The third test was used to test auditory ability, not much information was given on this experiment since it is not possible to limit auditory input to one
