I agree that technology could affect your eyesight and if all you are doing is playing games then it could affect your mind. If you are doing some educational stuff on technology then it could actually help your mind because you could learn something. No matter what it will affect your eyesight somewhat especially if you are too close to the technology device. If you are just using technology to play games and watch TV then it might start to affect you. It may not affect you a lot but it may affect you some. Using technology to do educational stuff like reading a book online or even watching an educational video will help you and teach you new things.
Adults and kids use technology and there is a slight
possibility that it could mess with their minds. It won’t have to big of an impact but it could have a little impact. Too much technology will give you headaches. It can also strain your eyes or cause dry eyes. This will only happen if you are on technology for a long time. Technology is used for many things today including using cell phones and computers. These are used by many people today including parent, kids, and even grandparents. Technology helps us with many things. Doctors even use technology. Technology can be used to save lives. Kids use check their phones many times during a day. It is good to go outside too but technology is definitely helpful. It is an idea that probably started small and grew bigger. Technology may only hurt your eyesight but only if you are on it for a long time. Other than that it won’t really hurt you. It is actually helpful to many people.
In the beginning of the play Romeo and Juliet make many rash decisions that change the course of the play. Such as, when Romeo decides to sneak into the Capulet’s garden to have a conversation with Juliet. If Romeo was spotted by any of the guards or a resident of the Capulet household, he would have been captured and killed. When Juliet asks how Romeo snuck into the garden he replies to her, “With love’s light wings did I o’erperch these walls, For stony limits cannot hold love out…” (2.2.66-67). Romeo states that he snuck in with love’s wings and that nothing can stand in the way of love. Though there are some positive effects, the adverse impact of technology on education has been extraordinary. The technology community has worked hard to bring useful technology into our classrooms, all with good intentions to broaden our knowledge. With these good intentions also came about unwanted side effects such as distraction and disruption in the classroom. I can clearly remember many of my teachers yelling at us to put our cell phones, iPods, and iTouch phones away especially during lecture and exams. The yelling was not without just cause, students cheated with their devices along with updating their Facebook pages during class too.
Certain effects of your brain can be in jeopardy by using too much technology. Articles below by Nicholas Carr, an American writer who writes about technology and culture, and Matt Ritchel, an American writer and journalist, will inform you on how. Using technology can have certain effects on the brain. Nicholas Carr’s magazine blog, “The Web Shatters Focus, Rewrites Brains,” tells us about an experiment from ULCA professor, Gary Small. Gary Small performed his experiment on the study of brain activity.
Television, or screen time, has become a large part of today's society. Whether it's by way of smart-phones, a television, a computer, or a tablet, screen time has negative effects on the cognitive ability of children and adolescents. It has even been proven that it can lead to Alzheimer's disease when a person, in the age range of 20-60 years old, views an hour more than the recommended amount of screen time a day (Sigman 14). In children, the amount of screen time viewed has a relationship with the likelihood of developing a deficit in his attention span; the longer a child views screen time, the more likely he is to be diagnosed with an attention disorder. Screen time, or television, can cause attention disorders and other problem with cognitive abilities in children and adolescents that effect the education they can comprehend.
For example, talking too much over cellphones can damage hearing. According to study in Use of Cell Phone Long Hour Cause Hearing Loss, “Those who used mobile phones for more than four years had more hearing loss in high-frequency ranges in their right ear, the ear most held the phone to, than those who used the mobile phone for one to two years” (Dohheny). Another example is using cellphones for a long period or too much is bad for the eyes. The vision of the eyes can get weaker by looking at the cell phone screen. According to the article Does staring at screens all day really damage your eyes?, found that 61 percent of Americans have experienced eye strain after prolonged use of electronic devices — nearly 2 out of every 3 people (Hill). One of my friends in school was wearing glasses when I saw her one day. I said, “What happened? Why are you wearing glasses?” She said, “My eyes are in pain.” She told me that she had been typing all night on her cell phone. The reflected light that comes from electronic devices’ screens can cause eyestrain because of long-period concentration on the screens. Furthermore, cell phone can also damage the brain and possibly cause brain tumors. There is a growing body of research that technology can be both beneficial and harmful to different ways in which children think. Children are born ready to learn. They cultivate eighty-five percent of their intellect, personality and skills by age five. The first months and years of life set the stage for lifelong development. It actually takes up to twelve years for the brain to become fully organized, with parts of the cortex still to become organized through the later teen years. This being said, children should not be exposed to computer technology until late in the education process because computers often distract young learners from acquiring basic information and skills.
Computers are a magnificent feat of technology. They have grown from simple calculators to machines with many functions and abilities. Computers have become so common that almost every home has at least one computer, and schools find them a good source for information and education for their students (Hafner, Katie, unknown). Computers have created new careers and eliminated others and have left a huge impact on our society. The side effects of the internet or technology are countless however here are 5 ways that technology can affect our daily lives. Due to the over-exposure that children have had to the internet, games or texting, kids have gotten used to having whatever they want instantaneously at their fingertips in a mere matter of milliseconds (Martin). Kids have gotten used to having whatever they want as soon as they ask for it, and that has led to deteriorated patience and an elevated exasperation because then they have to wait. “The excessive usage of online chatting and shortcuts has led today’s young generation’s writing skills decline tremendously” (Martin). In today’s society we are overwhelmed with technology. Technology is changing everyday, and will forever be a staple in our lives. The effect that technology has on our children has brought on some concerns and some praises. Children these days have no choice but to some how be influenced by the ever growing technology in our societies. Our common concern has been that although digital technology has boosted children’s talent for multitasking, their ability to process information deeply may be deteriorating (Carpenter, 2010). Many people have a wide range of opinions on if technology is having a positive influence on our children or a negative, there is a vast amount of evidence to support both of these arguments. Technology can refer to so many things, but there are three main parts of technology that are having the greatest effects on our children: video games, television/media, and computers. The modern technologies we have today are so powerful because they attract our genetic biases, that the human brain has a tremendous love for visually presented information. Video games, television, movies and computer programs are all very visually oriented and therefore they attract and keep the attention of children easily.
Almost every child between the ages of eight and twelve are getting cell phones. The average home in America has as many televisions as they do people. Only 20% of American homes do not have a computer. Technology is quickly becoming a new way of life. The amount of time people are on their devices is growing rapidly. According to The Huffington Post, people are on their devices for on average about eleven hours and fifty-two minutes a day. That is almost half a day and a lot longer than most people sleep or work. People have not realized yet how they or their families are being affected by this constant use of technology. As a result of technology increasing, children are experiencing health problems, school issues, and social problems.
There has been a long lasting debate in the resent years on whether or not technology has a positive or negative impact on today’s kids. As the years move on, the negative effects have begun to outnumber the positive. The generations previous spent their childhood making forts, fishing, and using their imaginations, contrary to today’s generations who spend their free time texting, playing video games, and watching videos. Technology is one of life’s most impressive and incredible phenomena’s. The main reason being the shockingly high degree to which our society uses technology in our everyday lives. It occupies every single realm, affecting people both positively and negatively. There are so many different forms of technology but the two most often used are cell phones, and the internet/computers in general. Today’s younger generation was raised alongside technological development. Kids now a days learn how to operate computers and cell phones at a very early age, whether it be through their own technological possessions, a friend’s, or their parents. They grow up knowing how easily accessible technology is, and the endless amount of ways in which it can be used. This paper will be largely focused on the effects of technology on the younger generation because your childhood is when these effects have the largest impact. I am very aware of the subject because I am the younger generation.
